Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

Jim, I played that Tony Joe White lp for my music friend

several weeks ago. As soon as the first note was

audible, he goes Wow!

@pierce911 congrats on the Sota!  Aja is the album I always use to test my turntable after setting it up or changing cartridges.

@slaw without your advocacy I wouldn't know about Tony Joe... thanks !

@pierce911 Nice move on the SOTA, i think a few of us here have them...

Streaming this eve so i can put together my weekend LRS hunting list.

London Grammar - Californian Soil

How very appropriate...

AC/DC-Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap Side 2

George Shearing/Mel Torme-Top Drawer Side 2

Bloomfield/Hammond/Dr.John-Triumvirate Side 1

A Tribute To Duke(CJ-50) Side 2 SQ Audiophile

Rosie Vela-Zazu Side 1

Schubert-Piano Sonata(Lydia Artymiw) Side 1

With the exception of AC/DC the rest of the recordings SQ were near Audiophile level.  Rosie Vela and Lydia Artimiw recordings had a slight digital "sheen" ."Top Drawer" and "Triumvirate" were very close maybe on a different day/time?

@boxer12

Pere Ubu / Modern Dance

Thanks again Brian. This is a wonderful album!

Welcome. Glad you like it. I just ordered Worlds In Collision on the Fire label. I've had it on cassette for years, so excited about getting it on vinyl.

@slaw

Happy birthday to me, I’m 63.

Happy Birthday Steve!

It will be my 64th in less than a month

Happy BD Steve! Time to get out that new Beatles White Album and crank up ’Birthday’.

You guys are a bad influance. (😉).

One of my favorite groups/bands in the 90’s was The Sundays. They only produced three albums, and have them all on CD. The vinyl today is very high priced.

But, I just cracked open the wallet and purchased a NM copy of Reading, Writing, and Artithmatic, their first LP. $130 with tax. Holy smokes, never thought I would spend that much for a single LP.

The other two are going for twice that much, Blind going for $350-500 easily. Eventually.... lol

@slaw  Happy birthday, Steve! With the Rilo/Jenny momentum, it's a good day to remember that you were "Born Secular"

@bkeske I bought an original to replace a missing record recently for the most I’ve ever spent on an album. $105. I hope it arrives safely from Europe.

@slaw Happy Birthday Steve - keeper of the vinyl flame !!!! Care package on da way brother:-)

" time is an afterthought "

Talking Heads

Appreciate it everyone. Good idea Bill,

probably be Sat. before the Esher Demos

hit the tt. All this talk lately about Jenny has

me jonesn' to hear her Spencer.

BTW, I heard the Glyn John’s mix of Let It Be last

weekend at my music friend’s house. Glad I didn’t buy that one.

Yea, I looked at a couple UK releases, but with shipping from Europe/UK they were equal or more, so found a store in the US. Really can't wait to hear this LP on vinyl.

@slaw  lol, thanks.

In the grand scheme of things, some LP's may just be worth it if you want them bad enough. As a band with only 3 LP's, and somewhat a 'cult following', supply and demand equates to higher prices I guess.

Capacitor swapped, ziltched pass transistor in the power supply regulator replaced and music pours forth from my speakers once more.

Deep Purple "Shades Of Deep Purple" Tetragrammaton Records 1968

Sir Douglas Quintet "Mendocino" Smash-Mercury 1969

Dead Kennedys "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" Cherry Red UK 1980

David Bowie "Heroes" RCA-Germany 1977

@bkeske -Thanks Brian, and you mentioned Sandy Denny above, I came across one of her records in my flurry of cleaning the shed records.

@tomic601 - yeah, started my career working in a TV repair shop way WAY back when (when TVs were repairable) and made the switch in college to broadcast and post production. Haven’t put the soldering iron down for long since then. Wish I had a nickel for each of the XLR connectors I soldered over the decades.

@boxer12 - I noticed Ubu’s "The Modern Dance" above. My Ubu collection appeared in one of the boxes. I have both the Blank Records (US) and Polydor/Polygram (UK) versions. Haven’t listened to the Polygram pressing but the Blank version (Blank was distributed by Mercury who in turn is owned by Polygram) still sounds very amazing.

@bslon -Yes, amazing record given it was 1968.  Bad thing is the record label, Tetragrammaton, was a shoe string operation.  Their pressings were made with regrind (recycled) vinyl to save money.  The surface noise of this record is horrible but the music is irreplacable.  Fortunately during the active tracks, the background noise gets cancelled pretty well.  But oh the lead in, track spaces and lead out are just horrible.

@puffball08

Yes, my original too is horrid but my Parlophone reissue is way better. The Book Of Taliesyn is in better shape, also 1968. River Deep, Mountain High... :-)
