@Mammothguy54, Great story Joel. What a great memory and keepsake. I guess I’ll have to check out that album, I don’t think I’ve ever heard it. |

Do you own Ernie Sings & Glen Picks? It is a true audiophile level recording(1st pressing) I rated it a 4.6 |
@spiritofradio
Very nice. I am going to buy that album as well, but it was always pre-order status when I looked. I guess it is available now.
EDIT: Just ordered it from Target. I get a discount and free shipping. Not bad for a 2 LP set. Should have it Monday. |
@bkeske. Yeah, and it’s a 45. A real stunner.

Steely Dan - Aja
RIP Al Schmidtt . engineer on this and many other fine disc, gone at 91
thanks to Eric for pointing this out on another thread... @bdp |
Aja left a long deep
33.33333 rpm scar. So did Dire Straits- Love over Gold so full of pyrotechnics, rain and thunder Dark Side of the Moon was worse, an amputation maybe... cutting away at my love for Meddle, Animals and more... All of these and more were Audiophile darlings worn thin in the Eighties... We had at the peak eight showrooms of gear. Vinyl was king and the lifeblood of the store and our customer’s addiction. Of course we tried to stock fresh copies but they ended life worn out like a rust belt Ford Pinto. Washed and prayed over with a VPI deemed “ witch doctor “ For it’s renowned ability to raise some of the dead So I tired of Peg, Deacon Blues and yes even Telegraph Road. Some thirty five years on they creep back slowly into my playlist, even LP ownership. And they make me smile.... |
Joel - what a fantastic story and memory:-) |

Nice poem Jim. A shared feeling well conveyed and understood. I heard Steven Wilson say once that dsotm is in his all time top 5 favorites but it’s an album he never has to hear again. |
James that is so funny and true |

Vaughan Williams Symphony No. 8 In D Minor Partita For Double String Orchestra Sir Adrian Boult conducting The London Philharmonic Orchestra London Stereo Treasury Series ”Full Frequency Range Recording” Reissue date unspecified
“Variations without a theme...”. This is not a fancy record by any means but the music is very nice and the sonics are realistic and lush. |
Carpenters - S/T. This falls under "guilty pleasures" for me. |
Nothing to be embarrassed about Greg. To hear her voice is to fall in love. |
@spiritofradio Not embarrassed, but it's kind of out of my comfort zone :) She does have an amazing voice! |
Arrived today:

@spiritofradio Vaughan Williams Symphony No. 8 In D Minor Angel right? I have that one James, very enjoyable. Mine pressed in 1969. Of course I’m kinda a sucker for Vaughan Williams. EDIT: Just saw yours is a London release. Sure it’s the same through. |

Paul Simon 'There Goes Rhymin' Simon' NM condition, pp issue, I have had since it was first released. Excellent album!
Neil Young 'Harvest' I just received this, it's the new Neil Young reissues. SQ is vastly superior to my original album. This is the second I purchase, after Neil Young S/T. Still need to get the other two of this early series (as soon as they are available).
Paul McCartney & Wings 'Wild Life' This was the first Wings album. SQ is very good, but not superior. Excellent McCartney music. My favorite of the Wings albums. I have had this since 1974. |
@bkeske Vaughan WilliamsSymphony No. 8 In D MinorAngel right? I have that one James, very enjoyable. Mine pressed in 1969. Of course I’m kinda a sucker for Vaughan Williams.EDIT: Just saw yours is a London release. Sure it’s the same through It’s a compilation reissue no doubt identical to yours. I saw it in a nice classical bin in Northern California awhile back and remembered your posting. It was $5 and Near Mint. Both sides are wonderful music and I think emblematic of the composer’s uncanny way of making music that is, if you want, as cerebrally engaging (as intellectual modern art) as you might like but also as aesthetically and emotionally appealing at the same time. Also, you know he wrote his 8th as an 84 year old codger and had a time with putting the orchestra (especially the drum section) through his tricks. I guess some people think his melodies can be too simple. But there is a moment in the 8th when the violins are about as beautiful as I’ve ever heard. |
+1 for "Wild Life", also my favorite from them
