Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

The Wilanów String Quartet:

  • Debussy - String Quartet In G Minor Op. 10
  • Szymanowski - String Quartet Op. 56 No. 2

Polskie Nagrania Muza, unknown date (guessing early/mid 1970’s), Polish release

@bslon  the black vinyl Sophtware Slump is excellent. It is so much better than the clear vinyl version it is amazing. I loved that record when it came out and played the hell out of it. I wish there were more copies of it on vinyl.

@slaw dangit, I was at Waterloo Records today and totally forgot to look for Cake - Fashion Nugget!! Not sure why I just remembered that?

@slaw thank you, Sir. Had lots going on and much of my listening I haven't jumped on the forum. Will try to be better about it.

Peter Gabriel - Peter Plays Live - reissue - holy smokes I forgot what an amazing sounding live album this is. The soundstage is big and the low end is absolutely killer. I saw this tour, it was so great and this record brings it back. Not sure why I haven't listened to this album in so long??

@slaw

I meant "ticky"

Ahhh…..yes, as is mine. Frustrating.

In terms of the resisters, and being stubborn to change, 😁, yea, that’s how we can all be based on previous/past experience and assumptions to maintain the status quo.

The Muir String Quartet:

Ernest Chausson - Concerto In D Major, Op. 21 for Piano, Violin and String &
String Quartet 'Unfinished' Op. 35.

His Master's Voice/EMI 1987, UK release

Yep, After further listening/understanding, I wish I’d bought different values.

I’m one who is slow to change, and I think that has value in the end. Keeping in mind, my latest break-in of the Cardas adapter it's my nature to evaluate, so in order to do that, one has to start at their personal best

@slaw

My copy is proving to be tricky.

How so Steve?

Glad you are enjoying it.

Did you get the new resisters for the phono pre?

Anyone keeping track....

After spending time with the Audia Flight, I’m very glad I bought it. Used, not much publicized components are a superb value.

Ii becoming accustomed to it. I’m aware of another resistor value is needed but enjoying immensely now

Hey Brian,

@bkeske This album is sounding great to me! No SS spread but all is good 👍

My copy is proving to be tricky.

@slaw Tool to Tuttle, too cool! 👍

@6t5-gto The SQ on Grandaddy’s LP “Sumday” (V2 Records) is pretty amazing.

Jean-Claude Pennetier, piano / Régis Pasquier, violin / Roland Pidoux, cello :

Ernest Chausson - Trio Pour Piano, Violon Et Violoncelle, Op. 3 En Sol Mineur & Pièce Pour Violoncelle Et Piano, Op. 39 En Do Majeur.

Harmonia Mundi 1984

Richards Piano Quartet : Martinů - Piano Quartet No. 1 & Chausson - Piano Quartet In A Major Op. 30. L'Oiseau-Lyre 1970

Eva Cassidy "Songbird"

2021/Blix Street Records/Germany 45 RPM/dbl lp

Have to start with lp2 as lp1 is extremely dished. Brand new, freshly cleaned.

Edit: Based on SQ from this lp, it is superior to my Steve Hoffman mastered copy. I still need to compare as I've made major system changes recently.

Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump on a Wooden Piano - I found a new copy on black vinyl today. I got a copy of the clear vinyl version of this and it is so bad, the vinyl was crazy noisy and for a piano and vocals it is bad bad bad. This version is 1000% better.

Charles Lloyd - Forest Flower - at Monterey - Speakers Corner - unbelievably great recording - side 2 is a bit of free jazz but overall an amazing reference record

@reubent dang, I was hoping it might just be my copy. It is a great record but damn near unlistenable. Guess I have to stay digital on this one.?

@slaw

Your post reminded me that I need to clean my Philly Sound VMP box.

Yeah, I dreamed about the VMP set, but made a "responsible" dumb decision to hold off and get a cheap alternative. The SQ is weak on Golden Gate. Now VMP is sold out...I'm on the notify list and recently joined to get Joshua Judges Ruth. (cleaning pending)

….. go Spencer go !

well BC fish trip #2 canceled with half the crew down w Covid….bullet dodged, so i now have an extra week to muck around w system and music….

White Ladder was so important to me in that place and time….. ah the ability of music to transport us BACK in time….. i binged bought everything he had done to that date… streaming the 20 th Aniv. as I type…er henpeck…

Unitiserve on the fritz…may upgrade

Brent Jesse is a prince, he has replaced Andy at Vintage Tube…. sadly…because Andy doesn’t answer the phone….. argh….

The MT album is a highly enjoyable bluegrass record with plenty of great talent contributing.

Your post reminded me that I need to clean my Philly Sound VMP box.

After recommendation from @tomic601 & Fremer’s first new Tracking Angle channel vid, had to stream some holes in my collection:

Eric Burdon - Soul of a Man

Small Faces - Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake

John Renbourn - Sir John Alot of Merrie Englandes... (lovely, peaceful instrumentals)

McGuiness Flint

Finished last night spinning "Golden Gate Groove" - TSOP Live in San Fran. Ojays, Billy Paul, 3 Degrees and more ridin’ the Love Train

@6t5-gto - Very disappointed in the box set, and also the regular 20th Anniversary LP I bought and returned. Both are noisy and the vocals are recorded very hot and distort on a few of the tracks.

I love the music on this album. Bought the CD when it was first released and was very excited when the 20th anniversary vinyl was released. Unfortunately, I’ve been disappointed with the vinyl.

Wife bought me the box set as a gift because she knows I love David Gray.

BTW, David Gray is touring and playing the entire "White Ladder" at each show. Missed him tonight in Cleveland. Too much family stuff. Hope to catch him when he swings back around to Nashville.

Edit: Have you heard "Mutineers"? I like it better than "White Ladder" and the vinyl is fantastic...

Deutsche Elektronische Musik 2 / Various artists

This is a great box set if you like CAN type music.
