Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

"The Shins performance on October 6th, 2012 inaugurated the groove-carving voyage of Third Man Record's 1953 Scully Lathe that previously churned out masters for Cincinnati's legendary King Records. The 8 tracks on this live recording mark Third Man Record's first ever cut live direct-to-acetate."

Big +1 for Romantic Warrior, the LP that got this pre-teen rocker into jazz eons ago.

@bslon @slaw My Classic Records Rough Mix sounds great. "Street In The City" is a demo track. Perhaps my standards are lower. I looked and they appear to have only done one run, so probably same batch.

One of my top albums all time, finally on vinyl. IMHO the pinnacle of his career. Remastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound. It's 99% gotta be from digital source, but SQ is good-to-excellent varying by track. Quiet pressing. I

MHO the ballads are noticeably improved vs. the CD, w/acoustic guitars especially full-bodied & lead vocals popping off a black background, but dynamics on piano, horns & blockbusters(e.g. Church) ...I was hoping for more wham & texture.

Overall:  Music: 10/10     Sound: 8.5/10

@slaw no issues w/ side 3.

Alanis Morissette "Jagged Little Pill"

1995/Maverick/Reprise/Germany

I believe this to be the op in this county.

"you took a long hard look at my ass,

then played golf for a while"

The Mountain Goats "In League of Dragons"

2014/Merge

These guys have really developed as a band. To say the least!

My copy of "Communique" was extra noisy!. I failed to return it due to family obligations.

Alice Cooper "Goes to Hell"

1976/Warner Bros

I’ve praised this albums’ sonics and music for a long time. Check it out!

During my youth, I would play this cassette late at night on my Pioneer system.

The Rolling Stones "Goats’ Head Soup"

2020/50th Anniversary

Always loved this album. While not audiophile approved sound, I think this maybe a best sounding lp copy one can get

One of my first albums

We have a few of their CDs, wife liked the band and they grew on me.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience / Are You Experienced
2020 AP #8016, orig. 1967

Sam Fender / Seventeen Going Under
2021 Polydor

Reminds me now and then of The Killers/Brandon Flowers, that’s not a bad thing!

Yes the TX is one of the Tangential trackers. I bought it several years on now…from original owner who had a very sizable classic collection of records that i just missed… argh… the dust cover hinge had failed…i have had it in my garage system for several years now…. fun. Steve - will send you a pic to compare w buddies…

Red Rider "Neruda"

1984/Capitol

one of the best alternative albums from that era, and it really holds up.

@bkeske ,

I’m another who believes your jacket art relates to your current profession. Your artistic design skills apparent.

No Ronnie Lane, I think he was out after 1970 but maybe came back for a year or so? That cover art’s a kick!

The Beogram with the tangential tonearm was way cool for a turntable back in the 70’s. I thought my Empire was cool, but…

Cool album cover Bill!!! First time seeing it. Is Ronnie Lane on this one?

REM "Out of Time"

1991/Warner Bros/(DMM in dead wax)

I always liked this album. I remember reading REM purists not liking it. This copy sounds great!! Maybe tilted up slightly. Maybe a case where with the balance tilted upward and music overcomes this.

Small Faces / Playmates
1977 Atlantic

Fabulous record; music, sonics and imaging. Fun stuff!

Hey Jim,

My music friend was recently given, what looks to me like, a mint BEOgram tt. Don’t know which model, but it’s cool. Got it from original owner, rarely played.

Steve, let me know about the new Barrabas albums you're getting.  I really like the one you recommended last year.  I listen to it regularly, it's excellent.  If the others are as good, please let me know and I'll get one or more.

Joel - I would put Romantic Warrior on a desert island disc list anytime…. assuming we get 25 or so….who is counting ?

Finally broke down and tore into the B  and O TX table….. Server is busy w Aja… as i work to restore the relic…. Peter L of Soundsmith is fond of them….. we shall see, er…. hear…

Steve, I’m with you on the Classic RE SQ. I’ve not heard the original, the RE has its moments but overall—I wish it was better.

Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds / S-T
2015 MOV, orig. 1992

The Staples Singers "Bealtitude: Respect Yourself"

2020/Craft Recordings/Stax/AAA

Over The Rhine "Love & Revelation"

2019/OverTheRhineRecords

This is such a great band. I own three lps now and am mightily impressed!

Yeah, the zeppelin never made it to So. Cal., either.  But we all had hemostats.  In fact, still do.😁

After yardwork today, relaxed with a few good ones.

David Sanborn  -  Straight To The Heart   This is a live album and the recording is fairly good, for a live album.  And man, that guy can play a sax.

Al Di Meola  -  Splendido Hotel   I played this a couple of weeks ago.  Had to play it again, it's really very good.

Return To Forever  -  Romantic Warrior   Chic & Al & Stanley & Lenny, what a combo of outstanding musicians.

Hey Bill,

What do you think of that Classic Records release? I'm disappointed in mine. My pp reissue sounds much better.

@bkeske - Nice music selection & artwork! The "Zep" slang never made it to Michigan but the hemostat's sure did 😂

Back from a day with the grandkids.

Just arrived from Craft Recordings...

The Poll Winners: Barney Kessel w/ Shelley Mann & Ray Brown

2021/Bernie Grundman/AAA

The Staples Singers "Beatitude: Respect Yourself"

2020/AAA/50th Anniversary

Freddie Hubbard - Straight Life - Pure Pleasures - great

Chet Baker - Chet is Back - Speakers Corner - excellent

Ian McLagan / Troublemaker
1979 Mercury

With Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Stanley Clark and others.

Grateful Dead - Blues for Allah. Grateful Dead Records 1975

Didn’t plan on this being a ‘Dead day’, just how it shook out…

Giant Giant Sand  "Tuscon"

lush Alt country group. Lots of base and steel pedal guitar. Stellar recording!

Grateful Dead - ‘Skull and Roses’.

"Selections taken from recordings made live at: Winterland San Francisco; Manhattan Center, New York City; Bill Graham’s Fabled Fillmore East, New York City."

WB 2LP gatefold 1971

Edit: it’s striking to me how much better these recordings are vs Europe 72.
