What drugs do you use to enhance your listening experience?

In this post let's consider alcohol, nicotine, and coffee drugs, as they are, along with the usual suspects that can get you arrested in most US states and beheaded in Saudi Arabia. I live in Victoria, Canada, which has more marijuana shops than Starbucks, and we have tons of Starbucks. In 10 minutes, I can walk from my house to four dispensaries, which will sell to anyone over 18. OK, enough bragging, For me, a puff, and just one puff (I don't like getting stoned) can be the best tweak ever. A glass of wine is also a fine compliment. Too much alcohol will increase my enjoyment (because I'm drunk) but put Phil Spector in the room (wall of sound and loss of the stuff I value in my system, such as clarity).

The worst thing that happened to me while driving under weed is I took wrong direction and came back home from half-way down of few hundred miles.
Good one, vegasears! I learned just yesterday that a guitarist I played with way back in the late 60’s and early 70’s got drunk on May 5th and drove himself off a cliff in Arizona. He also didn’t put on his seatbelt, was thrown from his truck, and died shortly after reaching the hospital. He was a fine Telecaster/Deluxe Reverb player, and the first guy I met who loved Johnny Cash. We did "I Still Miss Someone" every time we played together.
How to tell if a driver is drunk or stoned.  The drunk will miss the  Stop Sign and a Stoned person will wait for it to turn green.

@dragon_vibe

Without pot i can't perform a thingie. not even interested to! time to get laid always must begin with cannabis and even better if it's man-woman mutual part of 'foreplay'. getting laid all night long high on cannabis is DBest where cannabis is very important factor of endless mutual libido!

 With POT I can perform like a porn star :-)

That very often also depends on other partner unless this phrase only meant for solo (pornstars do that too:-)

@geoffkait

You should know that pronounced "Freedom Of Speech" out of First Amendment is actually spelled "Freedom Of Authorized Speech" which is extremely common in English grammar.

Why did the longhair cross the road?

Because someone told him to.

Why did the shorthair cross the road?

Because someone told him not to.

There is simply no meaningful research anywhere indicating pot smoking leads to lung cancer. None. It's been used effectively to reduce side effects from chemotherapy, and there IS data supporting that. If you have sensitive lungs you might not want to smoke anything at all, but, interestingly, a study did seem to indicate that cigarette smokers who also smoked pot had LESS lung cancer than those who only smoke tobacco…put THAT in your pipe! I invite Shubert to look things up, but when you have no touchstone of valuing actual facts and reality, everything is relative. It clearly is the fool who equates all "drug use" as the same thing, but for some the simple path is easiest.
A flat lie , no line for pot use on death certificate where it says cause of death "lung cancer " .
Reading these foolish posts makes it more than clear drug users can rationalize anything for their crutch .
The SURE sign of a fool is he always goes to something worse to make his case .
When you have no touch-stone of values everything is relative .
It's interesting that somebody would say "Personally i feel Alcohol does more damage to a person then POT can." Personally? Good for you. Facts matter: In this country anyway (I might have mentioned this earlier) there are around 80,000 deaths ANNUALLY related directly to alcohol use. Pot…zero. There is no "toxic" amount of pot, although edibles (processed by your body in an entirely different way than inhaling smoke or vapor) can lead to an overdose which, although uncomfortable, isn't deadly…it passes and you might learn something, with zero residual harm…none…except to your dignity perhaps.

people often don't understand difference between being high and being drunk or stoned.

every drug or alcohol first can get you high and if you add too much you get either drunk or stoned. if you take above too much, you get overdose.

A Little smoke here and their is good for you. I think most people who are perceived to be a mess by smoking is a result of smoking all day and everyday.

Iv met people who smoke all day and everyday and do nothing but watch TV, Play games and waste time.

Then their are those who smoke on the weekend, chill relax and have responsibilities in taking care of families, working and the rest that goes with everyday life.

It all depends on your Will Power and attitude.

Personally i feel Alcohol does more damage to a person then POT can.
To me it looks like a well dressed voodoo doll; audio voodoo, that is.
Stick cryogenically treated needles in its "eyes" and imaging improves.  In its "ears" and that high-frequency hash goes away.  In its "feet" and that ground loop hum disappears.  In its "groin" and PRAT is better.  In its "butt" and those Diana Krall recordings finally sound like jazz 😎

Is it mere coincidence .....that your avatar resembles a chocolate flavored, Gumby shaped cannabis cookie ?

What do you think, Junior?

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond.

After all the posts here from y'all in the legal states and provinces up in the Great White North, I'm going to try to get some med herb under the pretense that I'm allergic to civilization and it's the only thing that will keep me from becoming a hopeless psychotic....

Well, at least, worse than I already am, anyway....

" But when I woke up, Mom and Dad
Are rolling on the couch
Rolling numbers, rock and rollin'
Got my KISS records out

Your Mommy's all right
Your Daddy's all right
They just seem a little weird
Surrender....."
Recreational marijuana is now legal here in Nevada.  I agree with the original poster, nice tweak.

We used to try and surf stoned from pot in Hawaii, and found that generally you had to paddle so much it wore off by the time you got out to the reef. Also, the myth of stoned musicians doesn't hold up in my experience (decades of live non stop club gigs) as it's simply too tiring…I've tried it and a set of music seems to take 14 times as long and it's pretty intense, thus exhausting. Maybe if you ONLY played stoned you'd adapt.
"They seem to think in circles."

Maybe it’s how Joni Mitchell thought when she wrote this song, probably stoned most of the time in those days, just a guess.

@rodman99999

altered state of mind can or cannot be beneficial. if it wouldn't be beneficial, I wouldn't even try it. I wouldn't try to jump stoned being instructor either...

also bear in mind, that there's no test can identify the magnitude of mind impairment of marijuana ESPECIALLY after 2 hours! if marijuana is found in system of skydiving INSTRUCTOR, it still impossible to DEFINE weather the deadly accident occurred of impairment. Often and common assumptions presented as definitions for learning material.

Shubert needs to get some new friends.  People thinking they "couldn't be better" sounds like what therapists are shooting for. Careful with the gummies  geoffkait…they're  a gateway to hard candy.
Are canabis gummies really legal?  I'm thinking seriously of giving them a shot. Can I get them on Amazon?

I'll try not to get off topic, in the future.   The loop I got in, got caught in one of those circular circles.
I've known maybe 30 long-term potheads .
Most of them are a mental-mess and all of them think they couldn't be better.
They seem to think in circles.
@czarivey- "Skydiving when stoned is another super-thrill and I do that when I get chance before I reach an airplane!" I’m a jumper(since 1980) and a toker as well(as are about half of those at our DZ). One of the last things I’d do, is impair my senses anytime in the day, before jumping. Not that I’m that obsessed about my own safety(ie: no AAD / 89 sq ft Crossfire 2, loaded 2.1 to 1 ), but- rather concern about my DZO’s reputation and the safety of those on jump with me. There aren’t that many collisions in freefall, but they happen. Canopy collisions are more prevalent, and on the rise annually, due to the increase in high-performance mains and landings. What you do in your listening room, or at home, is one thing. But, your altered state of mind in the air, is dangerous for ALL of us! Here’s hoping you don’t hold any ratings! (http://www.dropzone.com/news/Safety/Marijuana_in_skydiver_s_system_147.html)
I'm meant "directly," and the "just like alcohol" comment is silly and you should take it back or get docked 3 points for misinformation. I can balance on one foot juggling 5 chain saws while solving the Sunday NY Times crossword in 10 minutes while stoned. Most accidents involve people who haven't been smoking OR drinking, so we need to get rid of those people, and understand actual statistics…like the fact that driving deaths plummeted after Colorado legalized weed, and also note I'm 66 and grew up in Hawaii…weed SHMEED…nobody should be worrying about it…and, it's legal in my state (MA).

@tostadosunidos ,

You don't have to smoke pot to consume it. Having now several states with legal weed, you can use vaporizer that is not dangerous to lungs. I don't smoke either. I either vape or eat cannabis infused meals on daily bases. During weekend I'm stoned whole day and during week days I'm stoned as soon as I'm out of office.

@wolf_garcia

There could be possible deaths from marijuana usage, but not from it directly. You can get asleep at the wheel or loose vehicle control and get killed just like from alcohol. Having a descent knowledge about types and grades of weed I can vary my menu weather I want to stay active stoned or passive. Skydiving when stoned is another super-thrill and I do that when I get chance before I reach an airplane! Also want to mention that only naturally grown and unprocessed weed along with medical grade is safe to use. Tried the 'street' grade years back and concluded that it IS dangerous.

best wine (and pot) story involves Wm. F. Buckley, his yacht and the 3 miles limit on the high seas
I read an article recently where the writer noticed the soup at her local Thai place was GREAT when she was stoned, not so great when she wasn’t. The issue isn’t "which soup flavor was reality," more interestingly is the fact that the flavor was enhanced by being stoned and what the hell is wrong with that? To puritanical often Right Wing freaks the whole "having fun with a drug WE don’t like" thing is BAD…a conservative (!) friend tried to make that case to me while he was drinking red wine, and I pointed out how lame that is, but taking rights away from those who you disagree with is the conservative credo these days…again: No deaths from pot, no notable lung issues (People have been pot smokers for centuries…this should have shown up by now) except when there already was an issue, where the obvious remedy should be don’t smoke anything. Pot is non-toxic by clinical definition…rare among any substance (sugar?). I smoke a little, you might not, leave me alone.

That basic standard from France--St. Remy Brandy-gives me relaxation-which I always appreciate listening to my music. Cheers. Pete
This reminds me---I need to check out absinthe, a liquor I’m as of yet unfamiliar with.
@exron I always thought that the crap flowing thru "Top 30" on the radio or the recommendations nowadays for Prog Rock is my problem of being old and being "imprinted" (Konrad Lorenz term, not mine) with tunes from the 60ies and 70-ies. A few months ago I followed the tip from The Atlantic Monthly (do I sound like a sales-guy for this mag?) and bought "Inside the Hit Factory". Reads like a horror story to me, but at least now I know that I am OK, and everybody else who listens to this corporate-produced crap are nuts.
Well, at least we still have some Dinosaurs survivors and now a few youngsters like Steven Wilson and Wilco to update our "rock'n'roll" collections.
Back to this thread: even being "under" I still prefer vinyl and cassette boombox to digital, no amount of nicotine/alcohol can change that!
As a musician for about 5 decades, I've noticed I don't make mistakes…they're more like dissonant musical choices.
You know sevs, your right, sometimes I actually see mistakes when listening to music while under ( no pun intended ), it's a riot.
While on the subject of music, I can't believe the crap that is being put out these days and passed as music.
Hey sevs, I also consider myself blessed, but did you know that I actually was just kidding' around ? Just to make a point here, one does not see mistakes when one listens to music, one hears it.
I suspect most of us like the occasional weed, whiskey, beer, wine, or whatever to listen to a good album but I would say most of us listen usually sober a great majority of the time, but it is fun listening being tipped every now an then LOL.  All the best sevs.
@exron thats why I consider myself blessed by being musically illiterate: I wont be able to "see" any mistakes while listening to Bruckner under Celibidache (and being live recordings there must be many!).
My take on this great thread is the same as from a week before: "under the influence" I listen to the music I totally do Not care when being "myself"... I can even listen to Lady Gaga and Yello while drinking Becks/Stoli!!!! Trying some of the tips from this thread is on my "to do list": maybe Kanye West is not that bad, after all, The Atlantic mag hailed him as Mozart of the 21st century!?!?...

About 45 min before serious listening to a serious piece of music I take one HYDROCODON-ACETAMINOPHN  or better known a pain pills. It helps one tolerate any mistakes made in the music, as yes, even serious music has it's mistakes. I only do this once in a while, LOL.
I can also recommend ayahuasca which can add a shamanic solemnity and expansiveness to your listening experience.  The listening room walls disappear and there is only Peruvian jungle (and my speakers)....
