ways to store your records

I will stick with the Kallax idea.
Actually Walmart do a copy of the Kallax about $7 cheaper per unit.
Looks near identical to my eyes.
However mine are all Ikea Kallax units......

I have been working on a straight grained douglas fir record rack like the LP Bin in the article except with an extra bottom shelf.
Just got to do the dado cuts.  My house, built in 1900, has Doug fir mouldings.

what ever you pick make sure it can grow as your record collection grows and the capacity of most units is about 1/3 less 

PratherMade out of Ohio does a great cabinet- you can see photo of Cherry and galvanized rod in my virtual system photo.

also some fine wood workers here on Audiogon- I can highly recommend George who goes by george53 here. He made the outstanding precise Ambrosia Maple faceplate for my Herro phono preamp - he is a joy to work with and very reasonable- get what you want !

I already own the Can-Am for my Cd/dvd collection and find them to be very well made. I would love to buy the cabinets for the LPs as well but it is a big investment. But on my radar as my collection grows I do have wood boxes I bought used and still have some expansion room, but really would like to return to the “flipping” through the face of the jackets rather than spine reading.

Sorry, I apologize up front.  The plural of Vinyl is Vinyl.  Don't know why that bothers me so much.  Maybe because my mother was an English teacher for over 40 years...

Simple, for the manufacturing I turned to my trusted carpenter, for the lacquering I have relatives who have an industrial lacquering laboratory, instead the project is mine.

The plural of Vinyl is Vinyl.

Ways to store your records....
store YOUR records at MY house ;)

There is only one way to store records, upright on shelves with solid sides. You should always fill up the compartment so that the records are always under slight pressure. The compartment that is not totally filled should have a movable side wall the side of a record cover and you put books or something behind it to supply the necessary pressure. The environment should ideally be humidity controlled not higher than 60 % and temp between 66 and 70 degrees. Records will grow fungus in warm humid environments. The covers also fall apart more rapidly. Records should be kept in rice paper sleeves which will not scratch them or donate electrons causing a static problem.

More than a year gone by, and noromance still has the best. Everyone else has you looking at spines, and the drawers that pull out are dumber than dumb. Obviously the record store format rules, you can thumb through and actually see what you're looking at. Well done!

There are different solution from Atocha Design , except for a normal record section which I like the most. However, I have what I like the most right on the floor in a wooden box and around it.

For people who would like to hide their record or to store them like in a record shop Atocha is nice.

But I like to see all my records.

Not really sure what you are looking for, but these are very nice looking, built well and storage can be expanded with additional units.  Pretty inexpensive too.

I am very happy with my mapleshade storage and would recommend it

+1 on the modular shelves from mapleshadestore.com ^, I got the double wide heirloom 2 shelf with a bypass on the bottom to store equipment in ambrosia maple and extremely happy with it, Great build quality.

If you move frequently at all, I'd highly suggest the modular shelving from http://www.lundiausa.com.

All weight is supported with metal on metal contact points with any stress on (solid pine) wood well distributed and, when possible, along the grain. 15 years and still no bowing on the 30" shelves.

I've had the same shelving parts in 6 different places and 4 different configurations. It's very easy to pack up and move. If you don't foolishly refinish the surfaces like I did, you can also order more shelves, higher posts, more capacity, as your collection grows. 

I have the 11" shelves and have finally exhausted my capacity with close to 20 feet of shelving. I'm thinking of replacing with 15" shelves and rear spacers to avoid overhang.
