Cambridge Audio CNC thru Schiit Modius to Mcintosh MA252, and still looking for a R2R DAC to pair with Cambridge CNC. The Modius was for a 35yrs old Rotel RCD855 just to find-out if an old CD Player could produce better sound thru a modern DAC and....yes,it does! |
OP, was one of the connections you made to a turntable? You did not detail out the equipment used in the test. Yes it does matter. |
@twoleftears "Husserl meets Heisenberg" -- that’s the Electric Kool Aid Acid Tests, right? |
Not about to name anyone in particular here, not responding to the last post either. Wouldn’t want to single anyone out when there are so many worthy competitors, but the things some guys say when they start pontificating, makes me wonder, are they in person as physically insufferable as they read on the page? https://youtu.be/hIdsjNGCGz4?t=54 |
Congrats, you have proven to yourself (at least) that even inexpensive cables are different. The 'right' difference can aid a system. |
Van Damme are unusual for cable manufacturers in that they provide some useful specs that mean something. I use the Silver Series 55pF if I need a more than a metre of interconnect between turntable and preamp - when you actually measure the capacitance of other interconnects you can use up your cartridge loading budget in cable alone. |
Those Optimus7s were great little speakers. Soft dome tweeter paired to the small 3-4" driver made for good balance. Covered the midrange very satisfactorily. |
When I Post this article it just my meaning to share about what I did and found about things that most of us love, the Music and the Sound. It was an enjoyment project, cheap and useful for something that I love. It was not tend to create a debate for some people who care more for the love of the Equipment, look, measurement, price, the End High or not, brand and etc... I was using a JC Penny Receiver back in the 80sh paired with Realistic Mini Optimus7, those I still own. I could sit for hours, tapping my foot grinning ear to ear. That is what the matter to me, not the measurement, not the price, not the brand and who cares if High or Low end. I own 4set of Stereo systems with 6pair (1 more pair ontheway) of Speakers, KEF, Tannoy, Rega, Mission, Cambridge and even Optimus7 and often I change between them in the system just for fun. We are in the Never-ending journey, enjoy the ride and the Music Folks! |
@hilde45 Husserl meets Heisenberg. Yey! |
hilde451,777 posts04-24-2021 9:10amWhat does "subjective" mean? If I hear it and you hear it, it's inter-subjective. If I measure a number and you measure the same number we then have to decide what the number implies. That's also inter-subjective. Nothing is purely objective as long as human beings are involved. And nothing is purely subjective, because everything we observe has to be put into language that someone else can understand. Meanings are like currency -- they require a system with agreement. The "subjective" vs. "objective" dichotomy is a false one. Let's move past it.
Nailed it! I will probably use this quote again, with proper reference. |
Cambridge Audio to Schiit to Mcintosh. Cambridge what, to Schiit what to McIntosh what? Specifics do matter. Did you also have a turntable in the mix? |

Dunning Kruger at its best. Calling on science to be the absolute final authority is scientism. It’s dumb to use objective measurements to measure anything as subjective as music and it’s perception by the individual.

WHY? There is no need to please you, you’re not the one buying the product.
Buy YOUR own stuff and run your own blind test.. Silly.. If you have an issue with something, it’s not up to ANYONE to make YOU or anyone else feel better or verify anything for you.
If you’re happy with your cable result, post it. If you’re unhappy with someone else result, because they heard something different. TOO BAD!!! Not a thing in the world to do with you.. In other words mind your own business. NO ONE here owes you anything... Lest of all WHY it sounds different to them and NOT to you... Who cares what you think. Come and go like a FART in the wind... WORTHLESS!!! Being so triggered by objectiveness must suck for you. Subjectiveness has no benchmark...and can be claimed by anyone with mental illness, and pretend...delusions of grandeur that don’t really exist...except in your own mind. Psychology is very powerful. |
"...limitless quality, pricewise cables out there." L0L! Why won't anybody making these subjective claims consent to a blind listening test? Afraid of the results?

samadhana OP11 posts04-23-2021 5:30pmFrom Cambridge Audio to Schiit to Mcintosh. I was just trying to have fun with these DIY Interconnects / XLR experiment. I understand there are limitless quality, pricewise cables out there. When I sat and listened to my Stereo-system, I was there, in front of the music. Never thought this system is High-end, Low-end, Medium-end or Half ass-end. What do you consider High-end, the price, the brand or else? Please de-fine High-end.
Most everything you mention is what a professional recording studio or musician/live sound engineer would use. Reasonable prices for excellent quality raw material. Try some RG-6 quadshield coax if you want to really have a performance value. Spending a few bucks to DIY with great results vs. a few thousand bucks for the same results from a "boutique" vendor. |

What two pieces of components are you connecting together? |
I'll tell you what blew my mind was the weaves and helix construction. I'm using T8-24, OCC/Silver clad PTFE weave AND T8-24 OCC PTFE weaves with silver over copper terminal ends.
The same with OCC/Silver clad PTFE ribbon cable.
Do you know what Norcast wants for EITHER? Used 6-7k New 10K
I paid less than 150. per pair of 3 meter runs.. I did have to swap the ends on a couple pairs. 3 pairs 30 minutes with new shrink tube.. 39.00 per 4 silver over red copper terminal ends..
Every bit the quality and SQ 100 times the price.... 100 TIMES..
Sounds weird but you have to listen to the cables to figure a good direction. You can look at the cable and see how it was pulled through the dies too. Conditioning is optional, I condition cables.. I use a cooker.. I pay attention to the cable BEFORE I put it together. In China, not so much..:-). BUT for 100 times the difference in price.. I'll check.. LOL
Regards |
None of these cables are high end .Look at Tara or Purist if you wish great sound.Good luck though. |
I also 50+. Depending on your equipment, the better, the more important interconnects. You can experience “component level” upgrades through interconnects and cables... which is why there is a huge market for $5K and higher interconnects and cables. Audiophiles are not just gullible. I have many jaw dropping moments over the last 50 years. Probably the biggest was replacing a digital interconnect I was absolutely sure could not make a difference. Welcome to the world of the others components... interconnects, cables, and power cords.
btw... in general. Copper is warm, silver is detailed (and can be harsh), silver coated copper can be just right. |
