Does a Tube Dac make sense?
I used to bring a headphone amp and headphones to listen to CD players. Most trade show setups are pretty awful and with no familiarity with the speakers and electronics, there is little chance to accurately attribute a sound to any one piece. You ...
Is it safe to use a higher amperage rating fuse?
You can use a small value capacitor, 0.01 uF and smaller wired between live and ground to mitigate the noise. Note, if you wire the capacitor upstream from the fuse, you have to use a capacitor that is rated to be used on mains I.e. a class Y capa...
Why Do So Many Audiophiles Reject Blind Testing Of Audio Components?
I volunteered for an ABX speaker wire test at Klipsch HQ back in '06. The first five rounds, I was perfect. 5 for 5 identifying the more expensive wire versus the lamp cord.  My accuracy, as the test continued, began to deteriorate, as my ears d...
Why Do So Many Audiophiles Reject Blind Testing Of Audio Components?
djones513,869 posts04-29-2021 3:12pmIt's really a depressing question. Why do so many people reject/fear science? To quote Disney, "because when everyone is super, no one is super".    Bonus points if you can identify the reference without Google.
Why Do So Many Audiophiles Reject Blind Testing Of Audio Components?
The notion that blind testing for audio is an absolute test is absurd, and on so many levels. There is abundant literature (although not enough) on the frailty and limitations of blind testing in all matters of research. (That doesn’t mean that bl...

mikelavigne1,658 posts04-29-2021 3:19pmi've challenged blind testing advocates to show me a system that equals or exceeds the performance of my system using only blind testing as a system building method. That does not even make sense.

Gee @cleeds , nice selective posting there. You know there are AES members and people with access to research literature here ...This is a convention paper, not a journal paper, which means it does not go through the normal peer review of a formal...

Long term evaluation is the only accepted way to evaluate audio gear. The snapshot of ABX testing is not reliable as most ABX testing results show.  Two falsehoods in two sentences. Care to try for 3?
You pay for it and you get it...
The scale should be in the recording, not artificial from the room.I was too brief. I meant you should be recreating the scale inherent in the recording, not creating a false one.

steakster1,141 posts04-29-2021 12:48pm There aren’t any equations for touch, smell, feel, hear or taste. That would explain why the food industry places so much emphasis on tests equivalent to ABX testing if not much more rigorous. They have whole ...
Math + Logic + Science = something completely mad...
So you're saying that the speaker vibrating the amp will cause microphonics in the tubes?YesOnly reason I bothered with the math on skin effect is because so many of these esoteric high-end cables do random weird stuff like adding dielectrics to "...
Why Does All Jazz Sound The Same?
You just defined so called experimental Jazz, which to me is really awful. It is like a bunch of people jamming, but not jamming the same song. More classical Jazz, Blues-Jazz, smooth-Jazz, etc. is nothing like this. This is Jazz you may like :   ...

Did you even read what you posted. Here let me help!In addition, the discussion emphasizes the usefulness of the ABX approach for testing clinical populations. The results are interpreted as providing evidence for separate auditory and phonetic lev...
