Preamp Help

Currently looking to replace my Parasound ZPre3 preamp with a TUBE Preamp.I’m looking for a Preamp that has a remote that will allow me to adjust the Treble and Bass as well as having a Subwoofer Out.

Not looking to brake the back, my budget is $1k and was wondering if there are options other than the Schiit Freya +.

Used could be an option, but please no suggestions of something I’ve got spend months trying to locate or over my budget.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

interesting.

i tried to suggest a preamp to you in a few messages and members before replied to your posts and suggested a preamp and each time you were against it.

what changed your mind ?

could suggest a preamp, but wouldn’t have some of the features that you want ( not sure why you want level controls)

I don't know of any preamp that has remote bass/treble control. Maybe a Mac?

@russ69

I don’t think the OP meant Treble and Bass controls on the remote! If he is you are correct , there just ain't no such thing!

That's what I said.

The Parasound Zpre3 and P6 have remote control that allow you adjust treble and Bass as well as having sub out … Just not a tube unit

then keep that and maybe add a tube buffer ?

The P6 is probably a good preamp in your price range. Good tube preamps are going to cost more than that and will have few features.

I think the  Schiit Freya + is a great choice.

You will find that bass and treble controls become less prominent as you get to higher performance gear. They tend to degrade the signal and don’t actually accomplish what they are supposed to do. I have tried them repeatedly.

my rule of thumb is only upgrade by 2x or more… the Freya + fits and the Schiit is a great value for the money… I got one for fun… great value. You can see my systems under my I’d.

A lot of great advice so far.  Sometimes in life, our wants, and our budgets are in great conflict.  Life is full of compromises.

Good call. I would like to try one myself, just for fun. I don't really need another preamp.

This Chase RLC-1 Remote Line Controller can do exactly what you want. You must have a remote, no controls on the unit

Use it with your existing preamp, and then ANY simple tube preamp, new or vintage with no remote controls, no special features on the preamp, just preferred sound.

I just sold one of my spares to an audiophile friend after he determined, like me and my friends, you cannot detect if it is in or out, it’s 120db S/N is true.

4 inputs, remote: input; volume; balance; mute; treble; bass

It has two pairs of outputs, (front, rear) identical, from the early era of quad, simply 4 speakers, no processing, so you can use 'rear'  for your sub, for a self-powered sub with it’s own crossover.

remote has a fader controlling the two identical outputs (front, rear)., so you could remotely adjust the sub’s volume relative to the main output.

I use one for all it’s features, one for remote power only, and:

I am using one downstairs in the garage/shop system’s receiver’s processor loop, gives me remote power, volume, mute, everything else goes into the preamp normally. That puts the RLC-1 in control only when using the processor loop.

I know you said you wanted tube but I know of nothing with that much flexibility.

How about the Parasound P7?  Really great remote with tone controls and bass management built in.  I would not recommend the 5.

I know this post is kinda aged, but FWIW I agree with Blackbags earlier post. Odyssey Candela with Telefunken ECC82 tubes is a giant killer. Cannot beat it for the investment. It runs very close with Audio Research and Pass Labs equipt, and I have owned both so I can say this with some knowledge. You will not be disappointed.

I would also recommend the Vincent. I bought one a few days ago to use in place of my McIntosh C47 while my Mac is in for service and as it breaks in it sounds pretty good. They had an open box that I got for a couple of hundred less than list. Audio Advisor was the dealer.
