Paypal Friends and Family

I sent a payment to a seller for $2,900 by friends and family, when he received it $166.00 was deducted from Paypal fees, the seller wrote me to say that Paypal got wise and no longer sends funds with a fee, so there is no reason to say send money by friends and family they are now charging a fee for that but at least you won't get hit with a tax bill like you were a business. Just a FYI. This seems to have just started because I got the full amount on a sale paid by friends and family.

Just to complain a little more about PayPal. I ordered an item on Dec 7 for about $2100+ and paid via PayPal credit. The next day (Dec 8) I changed my mind, and the merchant granted a refund. I have it in an email.

To this day, I have still not received the refund and PayPal Credit shows that I still owe this amount.

I have contacted the merchant, and he claims he granted the refund the next day.

I have called PayPal and PayPal credit several times now and I must say it was very difficult to communicate. They either hide behind being stupid or pretend they don’t understand English. They keep saying it was refunded to my PayPal balance, but I already had more than that amount in my balance to begin with, and the refund was not added to it.

I ended up filing a claim and have been told it can take up to 60 days to complete their investigation.!

Just warning you guys the PayPal system is verrrry rocky...

@ozzy

It appears to be a flat $4.99 fee as I made another purchase last night from balance and checking account and noticed fee.

wig,

So, it sounds like if you use PayPal Balance to send F&F payment there will be a fee. Is it a set amount or does it vary by the $ amount?

I had a business account with PP.When I sold something I would be charged a fee,but when sending cash for a birthday gift or something using F&F there was no fee.A couple of years ago they began charging me a fee for F&F also so I closed the account.

I’ve sent 10+ FF in the last month ranging from a couple hundred to several thousand and neither I nor the receiver have incurred a fee.

Guys,

I just sent a payment F&F from my PayPal balance and was charged a $4.99 fee.

F&F has a fee if linked to a credit card and no fee if linked to a bank acct.

Fake news.

Now if you send money via Friends and Family using a credit card, they will deduct a fee.  Send from a bank, or paypal balance, no fee.

International transfers will also have a fee for money conversion.

Fees for PayPal Family & Friends using PayPal cash balance? I don’t think so. Unless you sent to Venezuela or alike

Where is Paul Harvey when you need him, with the rest of the story. Enjoy the music

I apologize for being the master of the obvious, but why don't you just contact PayPal and find out what that charge was for?

If you use a credit card for an F&F transaction you will get charged a fee. You might even get hit with a higher CC rate as it is technically a “cash advance”. If the seller was charged a fee, then you didn’t send it F&F. F&F is essentially a cash transaction.

Did you use a credit card assigned to PayPal?  Have to do bank transfer to avoid fees.

Paypal fees are usually 3.5% but the above is like 5.7%. Doesn't seem correct
