I bet they sound great, Fritz doesn't get enough love for his excellent speakers. They might look plain but they sound great.
New Fritz Speakers: Carerra R
For fans of Fritz Speakers.... It looks like John has retired the Carrera BE and replaced with it with a new Carrera R. Beryllium tweeter is gone and a new soft dome is replacing is. Maybe the R stands for Relaxed? Pricing has also been dropped and he's specializing them for $2300 on US Audiomart

I have Carbon 7 SE mk II's that I purchased from him sometime in 2022...that I love. I always wanted to demo the Carrera BE speakers. I'm kind of surprised he moved away from that tweeter given their beloved status. Seemed like a good pair of options...one more detailed speaker for super refined systems and one more relaxed speaker that plays nicely with everything. Wonder how these new Carrera R's compare to the Carbon 7's? I don't think Fritz does any floor standers any more...at least not as part of his current business model.

OP: Fritz used a very expensive and well-regarded Be Tweeter and it just wasn’t as good. It didn’t meld with the warm and laid back presentation of the rest of the system. His prior ring radiator model was IMHO the best up until that time. Butter smooth, warm, engaging. The Be version said "I HAVE A BE TWEETER" very loudly. The ring radiator said "There are no speakers in this room." |
Price and high fatigue feedback may be major contributors…Last I heard you can contact Fritz and work with him to special order non-returnable floor standing speakers. If interested, it would be worth a call to see if he offers them anymore…but be prepared to have a nice extended engaging conversation. Love my 2017 Rev 5 SE’s. |
@j_andrews - I had a pair of Carrerra BE's and I enjoyed them very much while I had them. I ended up selling them in a speaker upgrade a couple years ago. @tksteingraber - Fritz is great to chat with, yeah? When I bought my Carrerra's, he brought them to my place in San Francisco and we hung out for about 3 hours talking about this, that, and the other - very cool guy, Fritz! |
