Most achingly-beautiful music

Ultimately, we listen to music to be moved, for example, to be elated, exulted, calmed or pained. Which are the 3 most affecting pieces of music do you find the most affecting?

Almarg: After I had to put my dog down, I had a dream we were playing in the yard. The whole time we were playing, I heard Chopin's piano sonata No. 3...........maybe I shouldn't have posted this.
To me the most beautiful 2 minutes of music Chopin ever wrote is Prelude #4. It has that otherworldy, divinely insipred quality to it....
??? Has anyone made a list of the most mentioned music on this thread?
If so, I'd love a copy of that list.
Thanks
Cut 10 "Ain't No Way" by Beth Hart and Joe Bomanassa from their Don't Explain CD.
Water for Elephants, James Newton Howard. An inspired and brilliant piece of music, recorded by the master scoring mixer, Shawn Murphy. I cannot get enough of this modern masterpiece.

Oh..so many special moments;
hearing that one track for the first time and then over and over again....

For me some of the most aching (sorry can't list only 3):
1. Portishead - entire record Dummy
2. Hooverponics - Sit Down and Listen...
3. Mark Hollins (ex Talk Talk...if you heard their last album Laughing Stock - you know what I mean...he just continued in that direction of crying music)
4. Some tracks from the 70s; such as Van Der Graaf Generator/ Peter Hammill, Few from Pink Floyd...old Genesis
5. 80s created some of them too; and don't laugh but how about Frankie Goes to Hollywood - The Power of Love, Crowded House, etc... (too many individual tracks to list)

for me as of late are bill evans' "moonbeams" and keith jarrett's "jasmine". very moving, terrific stuff.
Lulu's "To Sir With Love" can't not have been mentioned yet. It's a long list. The studio version is much better than the halting soundtrack. Melts your heart.
Great thread! I think I get all tied up in the equipment sometimes and forget that it's ultimately about the music. I can't wait to start looking into the music mentioned on this thread :-) and after I do, I'll list some that moved me.
Many of Lori McKenna's (poetry of) song fit the description. Go listen to "Lorraine".
Brian Eno - an ending
Kate bush - hello earth
Miserere Mei
Elgar's Sospiri
Gorecki, lento e largo
Barber, Agnus Dei
lots of Rach !
Four Last Songs - Strauss (Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's recording)
Dvorak Cello Concerto (Rostropovich)
Sibelius Violin Concerto
Beethoven 6th symphony
Mozart Piano Concerti nos. 20, 21, 23, 27

I'd like to add "Lush Life" by Ella Fitzgerald accompanied by Joe Pass on Pablo, 1974. Her real-life unrequited love is palpable in this rendition and Pass's sensitive backing is perfect. Great suggestions from all.
"Hope", written by Joey Calderazzo, as performed by the Branford Marsalis Quartet on "Braggtown"
I only have one that stands out, in the sad category. Alison Kraus, Jacob's Dream.
Saint-Saëns - The Swan
Melanie Safka - The Saddest Song
Roy Harper - Davey
Janis Ian - Stars
Sweet Sixteen - The Fureys, The Old Man
Joan Baez (cover) - Forever Young
Albatross - Peter Green
La Petite Fille de la Mer - Vangelis
Well, maybe not "most" but make that only "achingly beautiful" and check out Tim Finn's "Imaginary Kingdom"...several tracks qualify for me (Astounding Moon; Salt to the Sea; Winter Light).
I had a group of guys over a few weeks back and one brought a CD recording of "Pavorotti & Friends for Guatemala and Kosovo". One of the cuts really touched me and cuts the cloth of achingly beautiful to my ears "Tu che m' hai preso il cor" sung by Laura Pausini and Luciano Pavorotti. It is the unique voice of Pausini on this piece that caught my ear. There are versions of it on youtube, check it out, it is too beautiful to me. Cynics beware, it's probably not for you!
Ebm, not "All the Young DUDES"?

Sorry , couldn't resist that one. :^)

Mickey and Uriah Heep? Really? Oy-vey!

Did they do "Return TO Fantasy"? I love that tune!
1/ Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A major Adagio
2/ The Holy City as performed live by Charlotte Church in Jerusalem [watch on YouTube]
3/ A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum
Agree with Chopin nocturnes above but must be played by Ivan Moravec. No other interpretation will do!
Chopin Nocturnes & Moravec for sure, but equally engaging for me are some of Brahms Op 116, 117. and 118 pieces, especially his Op 117 Intermezzi. I like Kubalek's performances on Dorian, but there are many others.
Agree with Barrysandy, Moravec's Chopin recorded performances are something special. Newbee, thanks for the recommendation for the Brahms, I'll add that to the others I have.
J.S.Bach; Cello suite no.2 Prelude. Yo Yo Ma
John Coltrane; Lonnie's Lament,from Crescent.
Carmen Gomes Inc; Wicked Game, from Thousand Shades of Blue.
3 that comes to my mind:
- soundtrack from movie "Bandyta" by Michal Lorenc
- Pink Floyd "The Wall"
- Cirque du Soleil - Quidam

and many others
