Mcintosh amp stock pwr cord only 4 ft???

OP that's a stock PC? I think all my preamps from Mac were 3 or 4 feet.

Power amps the same.. Heavy Copper.. Nothing fancy they work just fine at least mine do. I have tried a few fancy PC on my Macs over the last 30 years, LOL. Kind of a waste of good money.. Cary tube power amps, a whole different story.. You better take a little time and pick a good PC.

Might only be me but aside from the power cord that came with my Blue Circle BC6000 power conditioner none of the other audio components I have purchased came with anything other than 1M power cords .And, those stayed in the box and were replaced by better power cords. Based upon most of your threads you might be better off research/finding some small "boutique" type shops that can build you custom equipment to your exact specs and save yourself the constant angst.

The shorter the power cord the better. If you need longer, make sure it's super heavy duty with high grade connectors. Good luck.

Get a Pangea with a coupler to the stock cord. Will not affect the SQ of the amp!

A few feet more on pwr cable length dont matter.  Well insulated quality cable good.

I've never had a need for more than 3-4ft. If you are going to enter the world of trying various cords, like I've done, try to buy 5ft as those seem to be the most desireable lengths. If you really need 10-12 ft I'd recommend getting some outlets added. 

Whoever first wrote "A fool and his money" was watching people buy expensive power cords.

Very sad buy a 6ft aftermarket cord ASAP.

Because it isn't a vacuum cleaner. Is it possible to have a new electrical outlet installed?

@secretguy I personally like PC from Signal Cable and Raven Audio. Better build quality than the cheap OE PC and I do not have to sell my motorcycle and boat to buy them.

Personally, I would like the choice of long or short on most components or appliances. Depending on how you are organizing the components, it is sometimes preferable to have a 4 foot cord on everything or a 10 foot cord if the situation requires it. For me, if I could I would love to have an 2 foot cord on the components closest to my conditioner.

Case in point is my electric toothbrush. Why does it come with a 5 foot cord when it will undoubtably be plugged into the groundfault receptacle on your bathroom counter. I believe most people brush their teeth in the same room as the receptacle it is plugged into.

Manual tb better. More control.

4 feet isn't unreasonably short.  It's a cheap, generic power cord, get a longer one if you need it.

I think 4 ft is standard. I personally use 5 ft "boutique" power cords as that’s the length which they are commonly offered. 6 ft and above are usually for special applications. Are you able to shift the equipment or rack so as the length of the cords will fit? That’s what I do most of the time. Excess cable length is not good and troublesome to maintain. It’s not good to have the cables(power cords, speaker cables and interconnects) touch each other.

If you need 8 to 10 ft cords, I suppose you would be able to buy one which costs below $50 which may well offer comparable if not better performance than the standard cord which comes together with your amp?
