OK, let me just say I was a customer of Arnie's at Accutronics in Ann Arbor before he even started Audiogon. He and his assistant were selling used components out of the basement floor of the store on ebay.com; that worked pretty well, which is what gave him the idea.
I am out of the loop for knowledge on high end auto music systems
At one time I had also invested money and time in good stereo systems for good cars, but have been out of that market for too long. I would consider doing an upgrade to the stereo in an older used car I have, which is a '91 Porsche 944S2.
Where do you feel I should start on my info finding journey? Mainly for FM reception and multi cd (perhaps SACD} playback.
i am the one that noticed this but jjss49 gets the credit. |
Jerry, I understand and appreciate your thoughts. From the better sports cars and luxury vehicles I have had, the driving with music has been a part of the pleasure. Since I raced various classes of cars at Road America, and others, I can appreciate the mechanical, exhaust, tire and other sounds....never enjoyed the sounds of being passed.

jjss49 You are correct. I had been on here from near the start and did a deal with an abusive parasite (non-payment,etc.) and stayed away for some time and started again with a new user name...as per the suggestion of a lady at AudiogoN.

hahahaha sooo busted... old hand acting out like an idiot using a new burner account bravo! 👏 |
every reply has suggested that you go to a car audio shop. car audio is a lot different than 2 channel audio.. i am sure if you visit a shop you can tell them what you are wanting and they can help you.
what that comment....makes me think that you are an old member of this site but with a new moniker....as how else would you know about Arne , since it says you joined here in March 2021 ?

944/968 is so poorly noise insulated... why bother with a high dollar car hifi in that? for great functionality, decent sound, throwback cool with modern touches... https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUCLASSIC.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwwdWVBhA4EiwAjcYJEKelMWiINMg7ZBFnpJNAy_SkYOMzFEXGo8ylm6v6srlvkxfYZJVSWBoC0TIQAvD_BwE first and foremost, driving that car is about windows down listening to the tires talk to you near the limit - remember, a chirping tire is a happy tire |
A Porsche forum would probably be your best bet. No doubt there are forums dedicated to the 944. As a veteran mobile audio installer, I can tell you that you’ll definitely want a system that allows for EQ, preferably by way of DSP. I imagine some headunits have it built-in these days. You can get analog EQ solutions from the Audio Control company. I’m not sure what the top brands are these days. Years ago, they were Eclipse, Audison, Hertz, Memphis, Pioneer Elite, and Soundstream to name a few. I owned a near-mint 89’ cobalt blue 944S when stationed in Germany 16 years ago. Fun car but abysmal to drive in the snow. |
