Jennifer Nettles singing 'hello' with Lionel Ritchie. I have the CD 'Tuskegee'. After hearing her I had to SEE her, so I followed O-10's advice went to youtube. WOW! The way she took the stage, just great, and she is a stone Fox also.

Maddie Pryor (Steeleye Span) and Annie Haslam (Renaissance, particularly on "Ashes Are Burning" ).

Another vote for Karen Carpenter.

She's been mentioned quite a few times already, but listen to Linda Rondstadt doing `Adios', a song written by Jimmy Webb with Brian Wilson producing and providing backing vocals (Cry Like a Rainstorm album). The final note that she hits always sends shivers up my spine, it is just so good.

Many years back A friend gave me a copy of "Kiri sings Gershwin" released in 1989 on EMI Classics. For a really different presentation of Gershwin standards from an operatic singer, you might want to check it out.

Joan Baez singing "Diamond's and Rust"...

Another vote for Karen Carpenter as well, also Joan Osborne song 'What you are" and many of Martina McBride tunes.

Give a listen to Rumer! She reminds me so much of Karen Carpenter but with a bit more weight to her effortless vocals.

Never heard of her until I randomly bought a Sugarland CD. Step out of your comfort zone and listen to Jennifer Nettles singing "What I'd Give". Simply jaw dropping.

I thought of another one, Dusty Springfield had a killer voice that put her head and shoulders above anyone else in the late 60's. I dare you to listen to "Windmills of your Mind" or "This Girl's in Love With You". You'll see what I mean.

For me it would have to be Phoebe Snow's Second Childhood album. The three octave range of her voice and the studio musicians on the album are all first class. Give it a listen and you may agree with me. I also like Patsy Cline and the Trio of Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. Cheers!

I agree with many of the obvious choices ... Recently I discovered Suzannah McCorkle,  "By the Time I Get to Phoenix".   Her voice is just magical and now I have 4 or 5 CDs.

Internet radio is a great way to discover new music.
