Cleaning Your Turntable

So what do you all do to clean your turntable?

And I am not referring to the Stylus, I mean the TT itself and the dust that accumulates on your platter (well platter I'm sure is easy to clean) but the platform and around your tonearm, etc.

I have a Mo-Fi Table and since it's black, it's easy to see the dust around. I don't want to be using some type of small duster or cloth because I want to avoid physically touching as much as possible.

We all know how sensitive the TT is and once you get it tuned just the way you want it, fumbling around tryin to clean it can throw things off.

I was thinking compressed air or a small fine brush perhaps to get around with more control but what do you all think?

Thanks

I'm a thrill seeker.

Accessory brush attached to hose on the vacuum cleaner. It appears to loook a disaster waiting to happen, but just a little added awareness while is necessary.

For advanced audiophools only.

I demoed an Ultradeck before it was released few  years back. Great table at the price point. There's nothing on  the table to be "thrown off"

Pressure wash that puppy and hang it on the clothesline.

Picky are ya? ok just dunk it in the bath tub but no bath oils. Shampoo maybe.. Maybe a little conditioner. Blow dry..

Protect the cart and stylus VERY well and:

Get Q-tips, micro fiber cloth a little distilled water and time. Don’t reuse the micro fiber unless you wash it with a little ivory and rinse it 1000 times and dry it in the dryer. I keep a cool 50 on hand all the time. 50 in the wash 50 on hand. I use them like toilet paper, on my gear. Once, and in the dirty micro fiber bin (it’s different) it goes, for a soft wash and a rinse, rinse, rinse and dry.. :-)

A little distilled water on a part of the cloth can help remove more stubborn stuff.

If hair is abound, use a vacuum with a controlled suction (a second hole in the line to bleed just in case).

I wax everything I can too. Once a year or so.. Just wax and wipe with MF and toss them in the micro fiber bin..

dust ? God’s way of telling you to upgrade….

dont blow the antiskate Mofi weight on fishline into the weeds, they are $50… ask my brother in law how…i know ?

Soft (synthetic) 1 1/2" painter's brush - something that can get between the crevasses.

Quickie before the hairdresser returns.

Swifter. Watching out for the stylist.

Microfiber cloth slightly dampened

with distilled water. Then wipe dry

with another clean cloth.

Herbies Mat, I use a lint roller & for the TT, I use a Swiffer hand duster.😁

Black is a b-tch.

I use compressed air for dust and Windex for fingerprints. You can blow your cantilever right off (ask me how I know) so, shield the cartridge! I blow it off perhaps once a year as I use a dust cover. The table itself does not collect dust fast at all. The dustcover can be cleaned easily with Windex or any other glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. If your dust cover has collected swirl marks they can be rubbed right out with Menzerna's 2500 compound. If you have scratches (you can feel them with a fingernail) you have to wet sand the entire surface with 600 grit silicon carbide paper and automotive detailer. Then jump to 1200 grit then 2000 grit. From there the Menzerna will bring back the wet look shine. If you just sand out just the scratch you will leave a noticeable divot in the surface. You have to sand the surface evenly with a flat sanding block.

Microfiber cloths (more precise/less dangerous than Swiffer in this application).

Forgot to mention I use two different types of micro fiber cloths.

For dusting I use the thick/nappy ones (we have 3M) and for cleaning/polishing I use the thin finely woven (slick) type that come with my eyeglasses.

Recently discovered that using the thin ones (along with a few drops of vinegar) safely removes patina/buildup from the sides of my ceramic kitchen knives.

Also use the thin ones to clean CD's.
