Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?

Just curious. People have asked about watches,
cigars, beer, and even ones income here.

1: What do you drive (daily & weekends)?
2: What might you be driving in the future?
3: What would you drive if $$$ was no object (pick 2 ;-)?

My answers to the above:
1: Toyota truck.
2: Newer Toyota truck.
3: Lamborghini Murcielago & McLaren F1.

I drive a 1984 Mercedes 300CD turbodiesel. Can't beat the coupe. As it has only 325,000 miles on it, I'll be driving it a while.

If money was no object, a 1970 Mercedes 280SL. CURVES!
Well over 7 years ago I answered this post and I'm still rockin' the '03 Ford F-250 V10 pickup. (Although I listed the wrong model year back then, as it was, and still is, an '03, not '93. Oy!)
considering that the question has nothing to do with audio, why are there so many responses ?
Because folks that are passionate about one pursuit are often passionate about others. At one point, I had a picture of one of my exotic Italian cars posted to my system page and a user here asked my why I was posting a picture of my Corvette. :)
I've owned everything from pre-war roadsters to the latest uber cars and have now sold off pretty much everything exotic or collectible. I still love the vintage, the quirky and the raw- before everything got electronic and heavy. I see an analogy to some extent with audio- as the 'technology' has improved, the involvement in the experience has diminished.
Mrtennis, what separates men from boys is the cost of their toys. I used to spend more money racing catamarans than on audio or sports cars. Now I live nowhere near the Gulf or ocean, and need the capacity of a SUV rather than the performance of the Cayman.
thanks for the responses. they make a lot of senses

if I follow the logic one might expect an audio enthusiast to own an expensive watch, or have a wine cellar, or engage in some other hobby that requires large outlays of funds.
Mrtennis, I suspect that is true with those of extra monetary reserves. Others may only be able to put their prized eggs in one basket. So, you collect rackets? HA :)
You can own a cool, collectible car without being rich.
Or you can spend money lavishly, without regard to what makes sense.
Same thing in audio.
I drive a 1997 Lexus ES300; paid off a long time ago; I keep it in pristine condition, because I don't want a car payment. This allows me to save up for my audio addiction...which is currently saving up for new amps.

Mercedes Benz CLK 500 AMG and BMW 325CI are my weekly cars and the Lexus SC 430 limited edition Pebble Beach Convertible for the weekend at the beach towns.
I consider my self a classical "Typical Audiophile"

Here's some pics of my atypical Ride ... a very boring 89 Berretta ... but it will run 195 MPH on the top end

BERRETTA and Berretta in action
Benz Mercedes B class 200...!..and the B stand for the best and so for for the hifi.thx

Many bicycles, I like to ride 20 miles daily if I can.
1. Daily, 2006 Mazda mpv. Weekend, 1964 Mercedes 230 sl,
2. The same as above
3. Maserati 450 costin, Maserati tipo 151.2

A daily driver is the same to me as a dishwasher or a lawnmower. I love cars, but if it is not either unique, handcrafted, very fast or temperamental I have a hard time caring.
Oh boy, currently driving 92 Acura integra with freshly rebuilt engine by me. Soon selling integra to be driving 98 Honda crv (I am rebuilding it's engine now) as a winter/ utility ish chicle, sled daily drivers a 2000 honda civic, and summer fun car is a '93
Honda del sol, swapped, turbo, 400hp at the wheels or so.

Future : who knows, haha I like Hondas obviously.

No limits vehicle! ummmm I would have to build my own. I know way too Many cars way too well. They are honestly all junk. That's right, all of them.
My daily vehicle is 2001 Saturn L series 4 cylinder for fuel economy only

I drove a tricked out Lexis, but sold it so I could buy my ARC Ref 5 SE linestage and ARC Reg 150 amp. One must keep their priorties straight. :)

I'm getting around on a bike now. :(
2013 BMW 328i convertible(3.0L 6-cyclinder inline) and 2013 Audi A4 Quattro 2.0L turbo (daily & weekend). Really solid, nimble and tight rides both! In a few years, I want to get a BMW 335is or Audi S4/S5 or Porsche Boxster S - more fun but stil practical :)

While the 328i cont. and Audi A4 are quick, they're not very fast and powerful. A twin-turbo or supercharged 3.0L 6 cyclinder will do the trick. To me, driving is as fun as listening to music - in a different way though.
I drive a 2009 Volkswagen CC VR6 as my daily driver.
When want to really enjoy myself I take my 2014 Maserati GranTurismo Sport for a spin.
Updating garage. Current cars are Porsche Cayenne Turbo (for regular commute from UK to Austria), Porsche 996(fun daily driver, cheap and no worries parking in the city), Abarth 695 tributo Ferrari (wife's shopping trolley) and Maybach Zeppelin (ultimate luxury transport).

Seems to cover the bases pretty well. I used to have a small collection of exotic cars but no longer. All my current cars earn their keep in regular use.
My daily driver,
driven winter and summer in Maine. 170,000 miles now. I haven't really given much thought to a replacement. Maybe an Audi A3. As to the ideal- honestly, I'd love to get my hands on a low-mileage replacement 968.
Now a BMW, previous, Porsche, Lexus, Lotus, Corvette, Audi, Volvo, Mercedes and others. ...the best drive was Formula Ford at Road America in the Skip Barber Series.
2014 Chevrolet Impala LTZ with full on options in black interior and pearl white exterior.Big,roomy, comfy, and handles very well.Color me impressed!
1241, I recently drove a new Impala, hard for me to believe an American maker could build such a great car !
Schubert, The new Impala is way beyond what I thought an American car manufacture could design and build. I certainly believe that this car will be a huge turning point for the American automobile buyer. Bravo Chevy...
1999 Honda Prelude -- still in great shape!
2001 Honda CRV -- likewise
2014 Porsche Cayman S -- awesome!

Regards,

For my 60th I picked up a low mileage 08 toyota solara sle convertible. Just having a lot of fun burning gas and blasting Tony Bennett and Dino.
OK, I still have my hot-rodded 2006 Mustang GT convertible (Whipple Supercharger et al), but as I get older I needed something besides a truck so I sold my old truck and bought a Mercedes e350 convertible. Yeah, it's a middle aged woman's car, I know. But man, it's really nice, and drives really well. I hate getting older.
Still driving the 2005 Toyota 4 Runner with 73k miles. I've kept this to pull a small camper to the Adirondack Mountains to camp. Also a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. Lots of fun to drive this car. Last of the good Jetta's.
Update - 12 years ago I responded to this thread that I was rocking a BMW 540 wagon and thinking of checking out the soon to be released Cayenne. Well, the Cayenne was too boat-like for me. I did the crisis thing with a 911 for a couple of short-lived years. Had to have a Subaru Forester to do winter duty along with this. More recently, I wanted to go for the Porsche Macan but alas it was not released in time for lease renewal. Current ride is BMW X1 35i M Sport. Very happy with this as the drive reminds me of the E30 that got me hooked on the BMW marque in the first place.
In January I bought a 2007 BMW 335i. Just a lowly 3 series, but it is an extremely well sorted out car that is a hoot to drive. I have done a few "upgrades" to make it a bit better. I still have my Jeep for bad/winter weather driving.

Shakey
I want a 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack but am afraid to make the leap.
