2007 Supercharged (Whipple HO, twin screw) Mustang GT Convt, very highly modified. Long tube headers, guages, Borla Exhaust, Wilwood 6 Piston 14" brakes, lots of stereo gear. Just like audio gear, I like stuff that can be tweaked. Very fun, and not too much money. |

I posted this previously, and didn't metion that I drive an 08 Cadillac CTS everyday, and the Mustang basically for fun. I had an 06 Porsche Carrera 4s, and for how much it was in the shop, and how much it cost, and how often some dude in a modified Mustang or a Vette blew my doors off, I sold the Porsche bought and started modifying the Mustang, and bought a CTS to drive everyday. Couldn't be happier. |
DCstep, great to hear that from you. I had nothing but hearache from my beautiful, but troublesome M3. Last Sunday afternoo, on the Hard Tollroad in Houston I had the pleasure of having a guy in about an '07 Porche 4s keep reving his engine and giving me the go signal before I said OK. The look on his face as I downshifted was priceless. I just wish it had lasted longer, but he was gone so quickly....... |
I got sent a private email asking about driving a modified car and if I had had any problems with it. Well, I can tell you that I have had zero problems, and that car has 35,000 miles on it now. My wife drives the s____ out that thing (it has had a second, race clutch put in it). Actually, we have a 2002 Expedition as well and have had many a Ford truck over the years, and we could not think of one instance where we had ANY repairs done.
Now my experience with cars, especially foriegn sports cars/sedans has been much different. My '99 M3 convertible was a great car I guess? You see I ended up driving a 3 series loaner from the dealer all the time it was in the shop so I really couldn't tell you how great it was. The next foray into performance for me was the Porche mentioned above, and it looked nice, and I think it impressed people as I pulled it in and out of the service dept at Momentum Porche here in Houston. Actually, one of the guys on the service bay got me interested in buying and modifying a Mustang when I told him my brother restores first gen Mustangs. The service guy brought me over and showed me his personalized/modified '05 that he had less than $45k into and it had over 600HP (at the rear wheels not the flywheel), race brakes, suspension, wheels, it worked out great. Although my wife drives that car much more than I do, it's so much fun to drive I can't describe it. The power is literally awe inspiring with a supercharged engine. Last week I replaced the fuel injectors and had the guys custom tune it then: 575 HP at the wheels, 0 - 60 in 4sec flat (can't get it under 4). That's almost as fun as a turntable!!! |
yes they did do that. I live/work in Houston and Merill's energy trading shop (they bought it from Koch Industries in '04) is here, and I still have a lot of friends there, and yes they did by toys. Their building is 20 Greenway Plaza and right in front of it is one of the biggest Mercedes dealerships in the country (check it on on GoogleEarth), and they are not hurting thanks to the continued support of the Merrill-BOA traders. |
OK, Wrtickle's post it the best in the this thread. Classic. |
OK, my Caddie got wrecked a few months back so I bought a different daily driver. So besides the modded out Mustang I am driving an '09 Ford Edge to and from work. I wanted to buy another domestic car so I went with this Dad-mobile.
Comfy, good gas mileage, and Ford/Microsoft Sync system actually works and is very cool.
Not exciting or sexy, but I really like it. |
Colinhard, awesome car. Someone I work with got that exact car for her 40th BDay last year from her husband. She didn't know that her husband and dad spent 2 yrs renovating and modifying it. It's just beautiful.
The put an LS Engine from a Corvette into it, it's a blast to drive. |
01-31-09: Shadorne Ah yes - Houston - Oil Capital of the World. Houston is going to hurt some. COP already announced layoffs - it is just the starting. Rig count is in freefall. '86 all over again. Only positive is a really cold winter so far.... Shadorne (System | Reviews | Threads | Answers | This Thread)
Don't know how I missed this 2 yrs ago, and didn't comment, but better late than never, and having the advantage of history.
1) no Houston actually never did hurt, there never any layoffs, you were way off base there, and at the time you wrote that, not only were there not dropping rig counts, but there were more rigs running than at any time since the latter half of the 20th Century (modern efficient rigs).
2) Houston is the Energy capital of the world, and also the largest medical center in the world.
3) we never had a big real estate bubble, so it didn't burst. It's just plain cheap to live in Houston.
4) more companies continue to move to Houston due to affordablity and very favorable gov't incentives. Plus did I mention it's cheap to live there?
5) city continues to grow both high paying white collar, and some of the few high paying blue collar jobs. The huge natural gas finds in the Shale regions of the country has led to a resurgence, and sustainable one, of petrochemical companies. Many shuttered plants have been reopened.
6) The port of Houston, largest in US in most categories is busier than ever, and with with the re-growth of the petrochemicals industry is now exporting many products that were once imported.
Too bad I am moving to OKC, I will miss Houston. It's too hot, terrible limited audio community options compared to other big cities, very ugly freeways with all the crap along the feeder roads but:
Great restaurants, great business prospects, excellent theaters and museums (those big energy companies like the arts), best medical care in the world (thanks guys) and super nice people from literally every corner of the world. I'm going to miss the diversity. |
OK, I still have my hot-rodded 2006 Mustang GT convertible (Whipple Supercharger et al), but as I get older I needed something besides a truck so I sold my old truck and bought a Mercedes e350 convertible. Yeah, it's a middle aged woman's car, I know. But man, it's really nice, and drives really well. I hate getting older. |
