I have Eversolo streamer going to DENAFRIPS Pontus via USB. Then XLR’s from Pontus to my processor.
I have an older Pioneer Elite CD carousel which has coax. Can I go coax from CD player to Pontus, then Pontus to processor via RCA in’s on my processor?
Obviously I would be listening to either/or not at the same time. But is this doable? And if so does it do any harm to Pontus?
So yup decided that’s the route I’m going! I’ll list the Ares II, AQ Water RCA’s. AQ Coffee Coax and add my Transparent Coax (XLR’s are Transparent and I already have the Transparrent Premium Coax hanging around) to the Pontus.
So I can actually upgrade my cd sound and hopefully get some extra $ in my pocket. How often do you get to do that😌?
@asvjerryof course I agree, if I didn’t try to get all that initial mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers I would have never discovered my 2 BJ faves😉😂😌!
Damn, thank you for pointing this out. I actually emailed Alvin at Vinshine about this and they're currently on holiday break...Guess I'd better put those plans on hold 😔
Even though I would have only used one output at a time, Vinshine confirmed what the manual said about not connecting both outputs at once.
@burtlakeGreat and important info, and thanks for sharing — I was actually wondering about exactly that issue. OP, there’s the definitive answer to your initial question.
@jmalen123I have the PD-65 as well.Sadly, there's something wrong in the laser electronics and it no longer reads a CD. I -LOVED- this CD player. It really had an incredible presence and projected the instruments into the room. I wish I could get this thing fixed!!
Agree with the advice above - not issues with using two inputs to the Pontus
However where I ran into an issue with the Pontus (which I love by the way) was in trying to hook up both outputs of the Pontus at the same time. I wanted to run RCA into my tube integrated and run XLR to a headphone amp. Even though I would have only used one output at a time, Vinshine confirmed what the manual said about not connecting both outputs at once. Beyond my understanding but something to do with output buffering I believe. My solution was to get a new integrated amp with XLR input with a good built-in headphone amp
@amtprodnot sure if it’s A6 version? Got her off EBay a few years ago. In a previous life I had the PD-F908 and sold that one after my divorce. A few years ago when I got back into the game the first thing I looked for was a Pioneer carousel. Came across the Elite and pounced!
@asvjerryB. Joel Glass Houses is a true Time Machine for me. “Sleeping With the Television on” (does not get any better than the intro to that one😌 brings me right back to the old days when you’d fall asleep watching a movie and wake up to the snowy screen with that playing), and “ I Don’t Want To Be Alone Anymore”. IMHO those were BJ’s best and most underrated songs. Not sure why they never got the airtime…memory lane man, doesn’t get any better…
I did have to have the “arm” replaced as a cd came loose somehow and jammed up everything. My local guy said “it wasn’t worth fixing because of cost”, and he wasn’t sure he could get the part needed. I literally said “I don’t care what it costs please do whatever you can. It ended up around $300 but truthfully I’d have paid double! I’m a cd guy, always have been…
That elite stuff was awesome. I still have my Elite PD65, and it still sounds lovely. It took something quadruple the price to outdo that monster. Finally replaced it with a Marantz SA7S1. Both are very sweet and more analog sounding than most, but the Marantz is more precise and refined in the drum and vocal reproduction. I am glad you got your question answered and shared a blast from the past with us.
No harm at all the 8 is their best have a smps on the digital and a linear supply on the analog end ,and the new AKM 99 ES chips are very non bright.
and several adjustments soft roll off 1 I think sounds like a R2R in many ways with very good detail. Ever solo excellent new company I checked out their app
very well thought out and a good 2T stick SSdrive a audio associate has a Western digital Black $110:and 2 minutes to install kills the node
the 6 master edition for under $1250:is also very respectable sounding
and they sell a LPS for $300 Thst easy to install on the model 6 through Denafrips .
Thank you @soix! No actually that's MY bad, I should have known that's what you meant😖. So both devices would then share the same inputs? Wow would have never thought that possible. That would be weird though because I have the XLR named as "Eversolo" and the cd player as "Elite" on the Krell. So I would then just always keep it as "Eversolo" but I'd still be able to play the CD player under the "Eversolo" input, right?
Full disclosure I already have the CD player connected to DENAFRIPS Ares DAC but would like to sell that DAC and declutter my system a bit which is what prompted me to inquire about this,,,,
Sorry, my bad. You are correct and I meant one pair of XLR interconnects. Both your CD player and streamer should be able to flow through just the XLR interconnects from the Pontus (no RCA interconnects needed), and if the Krell is fully balanced that’s sonically probably the better way to go along with not having to potentially have to buy another pair of RCA interconnects.
Thank you for the replies! Only 1 XLR cable? My processor is the Krell Foundation. What would be the best way to connect? I need the 2 XLR’s for left and right for the streamer, no? And then the RCA’s left and right from the Pontus to the Krell?
I’d think all you need is the one XLR connection from the Pontus to the processor and just switch inputs on the Pontus to toggle between the streamer and CD player. I’m guessing you’re looking at adding another RCA connection because you’d rather use the processor to toggle? Might be interesting to try both ways and see if you perceive any sonic differences.
