All Along The Watchtower, Hendrix. It was actually written by Hendrix, he just used Dylan as a surrogate. ...Watchtower performed by Dylan and The Band is also way up there.
Voodoo Chile, slight return --really moves me. I live in the Northwest. If you've ever stood in Seattle, looking across at the Olympic Mts, you could imagine Hendrix wondering, tripping, on the majestic sceney before him. Water all around, small islands here and there, huge snow covered mountain across the way shrouded in clouds. He probably reached out, and with the side of his hand, chopped the side of the mountain- making islands. Jimi lives forever in the Northwest and beyond. |
This is proving an impossible task for me. So many on this list would get my vote. But I'll nominate one that's not yet been mentioned, "Crosstown Traffic" by Jimi Hendrix. |
hotel california by the eagles |
This is impossible there are so many great songs. it would have to be something by Jimi Hendrix, but I can't choose just one. |

"Never Been Any Reason"
by Head East. |
Missippi Queen.......Mountain, saw them twice with Felix Papalardi, great band in concert. |
You people picked some good ones. I don't own any Stones cds, but I like Heart Breaker. Spirit of Radio from Rush is great too, but I'll throw a curve and say Squonk from Genesis. Hell the whole cd (Trick of the Tail) is great! Back in Black cd is pretty rock'n. Queen never did it for me. |
I don't know if this qualifies as Rock, exactly;but I would vote for Sugar Sugar by the Archies 2nd--Rockin' Love,by Josie Cotton Another Good one:I Get Around by a band called the Beach Boys. They were pretty good. |
Another vote for "Sweet Child of Mine" ~ GnR
2nd runner up: "Welcome to the Jungle" ~ GnR 3rd runner up: "Jet City Woman" ~ Queensryche |

According to my Mississippi rock and roll playing, part time physics teacher and farmer, Steve, it is definitely Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo". |
"Rockin in the free world"
Pearl Jam and Neil Young on "old black" allegedly a 1953 Gibson R6 Les Paul Goldtop highly modded and sprayed... you guessed it- jet black. Aired on MTV 1993

We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions.
Correction on the Bohemian Rhapsody song, silly me I'm not a big Queen fan but all these years I thought that Bohemain Rhapsody/We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions was all one song. Blame the radio station for that, most times I heard it they played all three together and when I heard them seperated I just thought they were breaking them up for radio play sake...duh...call me stupid. That's why I originally said "three classic in one."
Now with that clarification, I vote for We Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions combo (which I now realize are also two different songs.) But mostly played together when I've heard them. This combo is the definitive rock song and anthem IMO.
Somebody help me get this egg off my face. |
All this and not one mention of the Cream, Sunshine of Your Love. Or....Funk 49 by the James Gang who by the way I just saw. |
|
Hate to disagree there, Launche, but BoRhap is silly, disjoint, soulless, flash crap. IMHO, of course. "Good Times, Bad Times" is pretty good, though. So is "Hungry Freaks" (FZ).
|
I will add another vote for: Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
WOW...It may be one you don't immediately think about but when you hear it...WOW. From one emotional extreme to another. Now I don't know the history behind the song but basically three classics in one. My unbiased opinion: Nothing...I repeat nothing beats it, there may be songs I like better for my tastes, memories etc... but Bohemian Rhapsody is had to argue against. |

"Roll with the changes" REO Speedwagon |
You want to hear a scream? Wilson Pickett covering "Hey Jude" BTW Duane Allman is on guitar. |
I've got to add "Paint It Black" by the Stones. Talk about angst! |
|
Timrhu,
Maybe, but Roger Daltrey does OK on "Won't Get Fooled Again". That's a pretty good scream...
Enjoy,
TIC |
I'm with the last two entries... Revolution by the Beatles. Lennon nailed it. A best rock song in any ones book. But Lindisfarne, I'm surprised, nothing from "Nicely Out of Tune"? Happy Listening! |
Lennon's opening scream on "Revolution" is, without a doubt, the BEST scream on a rock&roll song! |
There's this little number by The Beatles called "Revolution". Listen to the single, not the White Album version, and tell me the song does not have it all. |
The Who--won't get fooled again. |
|
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen |
Can I add another one . "My Sharona" The Knack |
I might have to agree with Baba O'Riley. And if you ask, "what is the best rock Album, I would definitely go with "Who's Next".
Enjoy,
TIC |
with a distant second place to Baba O'Riley by the Who |
"Gimme Shelter"-Rolling Stones! A song for then and now. |
