Another GaN smaller integrated, Technics SU-G30 has everything bar the kitchen sink.

This smaller SU-G30 integrated version of the SU-R1000 I started last week has it all, it's the  complete network audio integrated amp. Nowhere near the power of the SU-R1000, but all the goodies, for $4k looks great for units and offices or smaller hifi systems.

Not quite ’all’

... nor any semblance of customer service capability, even at the most basic level, in the usa

complicated all in one unit like this... something goes bad, you are down a river with no paddle...
Only 1 line input kills it for me, wouldn’t consider for that reason alone
I actually have this model and have been using it as my main source of amplification while waiting for a new amplifier to arrive (one of my JC-1s broke).  I think it is quite a good value used (about $2K) since you can just plug in a digital source and don't need an external dac.

There is one huge caveat IMHO with Technics implementation of this technology in my experience with the SU-G30.  The analog input is digitized, and that conversion adds a significant digital flavor to the sound coming out of the speakers compared to a pure analog setup (in my case BHK pre and JC-1 amps).

How does the network side of things sound as it being a basically digital tuner as well,  (DAB+ sound) like we have in Au?

Also if you've done what's the sound like with a higher end dac feeding it?

Cheers George
I have used the DLNA compatibility to wirelessly stream music off of a Sony HAP-Z1ES server, but I found that I greatly preferred the sound quality of something directly connected to the unit (like a CD player or music directly off a USB drive).  However, the Sony is not known for having a really clean digital output, so my results are certainly not conclusive.  I do like the built-in internet radio feature.

I have hooked up a Holo May dac and Marantz SA-10 CD player to the Technics, and IMHO the sound is improved over feeding it a digital signal, but only slightly.  With my regular amp and preamp, the Holo May will make some digital recordings sound as good as reel to reel tape or an excellent vinyl system.  When played through the Technics, the sound of the Holo May is changed into something resembling a delta-sigma dac type of sound.
The use of speaker impedance data to perform DSP on any speaker it’s connected to is quite interesting. Wonder how that compares to the more powerful and elegant Devialte expert series, which has that feature for only select speakers?
Later this month I will be comparing the $2k Orchard GAN Int, $3k LSA 350 INT,
& $4k Lejonklou Boazu INT & the  $7k Pass Labs INT25.

I’m loving my SU-G700, and would agree with @80s_forever19 that when my Gustard X26 Pro goes through the Technics it’s sound really does take on new character, mostly for the better, but in some rare occasion a little strained with excessive reverb (like I know the Technics is working kinda sound).

I’ve tested now 3 other amp/preamps with my DAC and there is a distinct digital sound of the Technics, some called nuanced, but I will say that LAPC for my current speakers (Kef LS50 metas) makes a big difference in sound staging as far as depth of certain sounds that otherwise were a bit restrained on recordings. Pushing something’s forward other things back, but I overall enjoy the end result.

Another strange thing is that through the Technics my choice in DAC filters has come to actually matter, when before I would only use the Gustard X26 Pro’s Vivid filter (which majority opinion is its only good filter) but now on more acoustic and less layered recordings I almost prefer the gentle and composite filters.

So I’d say the Technics has some digital multiplication of what you get from your external DAC, might be an accuired taste, but I’m a big fan!

Seems like the owners of the smaller SU-G700 are really getting off on their amp.
Now if only someone who owns the bigger brother SU-R1000 could give what you guys have done here on it’s thread, I’m sure it will be prove itself also to be a killer amp.

And BTW just saw on HIFIShark Technics big daddy SE-R1 first time ever for sale used and it’s got 1day to go on the auction, and still at only $4kusd 53kg/117lb so postage will be high.

Yeah, but cracked glass, wonder if it was dropped? I’d be nervous buying something like that see cracked glass.

I was really on the fence about getting the SU-R1000, but I really want to dual monoblock my new speakers when they come and wanted to spend more on amplification, but a part of me feels I should just sell off my amps, and extra gear and get the SU-R1000.

I tell myself I need to be invested in this hobby for at least 5 years (not just 10 months) before I shell out that kinda money on one piece of equipment.
ja_kub_sz,
All your thoughts and comments on the SU-G700 is making it harder to wait for mine to come in. The guys at musicdirect told me that due to shipping container ships backed up and Technics moving their assembly to Malaysia, the units aren't coming in like they used to, but to be patient.

It's really hard waiting.

All the best,

It really is very interesting.  It is also not that hard to do yourself. The idea in the Technics amps is to correct for the amplifier however, not the speaker or the room.  It won't fix room modes or calibrate your speakers in anyway.  It will only correct for any deviations from flat the amplifier puts out, and, I believe, correct for the minor phase angle changes most Class D amps have in the top end.

It's almost like a feed-forward circuit, and it probably has strict limits in amplitude, maybe less than 1 dB of voltage correction.  If I had a bunch of time I might even try this myself to see how my Class D amps compare before and after.

Yeah but can you imagine if that was it, (no chassis dings on the corners) couple of small scratches and just a replacement glass, these things were around $20k back then. And only if you were someone important, could you get one. (This could be the Emperor of Japans one)🙄

Like these magic Sony Reference ESL’s only for the Emperor of Japan🙄

Besides the cracked glass, the input selector knob is broken off. That unit has gone through some kind of severe trauma!
the input selector knob is broken off.
Didn’t see that, but again no biggie 5 position switch maybe $10-$20 plus labour, at the same time the glass gets replaced, if it works it’s a bargain at around that price. We'll find out same time tomorrow.

I just zoomed in on that broken switch shaft and there’s looks to be enough sticking out still to extend with a short aluminium tube epoxy’d over it and then knob drilled to the same diameter of the tube to fit.

As noted before in my earlier post my SUG700 sounds awesome over my Canton 9k reference speakers' unbelievable detail and not bright or etched, except if pushed near clipping levels( speakers88dB) in any way. My headphone section using my Focals is even more detailed. I am cd based and a SS guy all the way. instruments and voices sound real those Canton's are a fine speaker by the way again bought on here for less than half the price new and they were not even a year old.
My only gripe no balanced inputs, 70 watts, and a touch light on the bass  but sure plays my cantons loud when called upon. As far as streaming I'll wait and add a unit down the road. It just looks and plays beautifully.
A BIG bummer zero, nada, zip customer service so you roll the dice on reliability which so far is spotless.Oh  they say the phono stage is good as well. I picked it up here in like new shape 3m old at a steep discount. I do not believe it has that Gna set up like its big brother they do share some other goodies.
@scott22,
You might want to try contacting local brick ’n mortar retailers who sell Technics, like Best Buy of Guitar Center. They may have a working number to get in touch with Technics.

While waiting for mine to come in, I’ve tried to contact them as well via phone and email and like you said, zip, nada, goose egg. I even tried googling an actual contact number and tried that one only to get a recording and not getting a callback.

All the best,
Nonoise
The G30  never sold very well to begin with.   Now that the newer, much better looking, and cheaper SU-G700 Mk2  is coming out, there doesn't seem much need for the G30 (which is also pretty old at this point).

Can anyone chime in on how this unit sounds with Tidal MQA? Does Tidal run from an app on this unit?
