Actual Lead Time on Tekton Speakers

Hi All-

I've had a pair Tekton speakers and a sub on order since the last week of February. When I placed the order they said they were running 8-10 weeks for shipment. I knew at the time that these were made to order and that there was a substantial lead time, so I'm not complaining. But I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve...

Can anyone who has recently received their speakers tell me how long it was from order to shipping?

Thanks,

G

I placed an order for a 2-10 subwoofer on April 28th. Im fully aware of the pandemic (Im an RN and have been taking care of COVID patients the entire time) and am very understanding of circumstances outside of their control, but one thing I have little tolerance of is rude customer service.

I called up directly this morning after work, as I decided to cancel my order a few weeks ago and go in another direction.  (They havent responded to my emails since July.) Anyway, Eric answers the phone, and I explain that I was calling in to cancel since Id not heard back in nearly a month, and the first thing he does is call me a liar lol. Doesnt ask my name, doesnt bother to ask any details, just straight to the accusation. He then asks what im canceling, and he says I need to call back in 2hr when Tammy is in.
This was very odd, to say the least, hence my internet search to see if anyone else had been treated in this manner....and here we are! Ironically, a buddy of mine just spent nearly $50k on a theater build. Hes been holding onto 15+ y.o Paradigm studio v3 speakers, and finally ready to upgrade the whole Atmos configuration. Ive been encouraging him to keep Tekton on the short list, but if Tekton is this unprofessional over a subwoofer cancelation...

I have yet to even get confirmation of the refund, but Ill be happy to report back once its completed.
@ajzepp,

I had a similar problem when I wanted to return a pair of Pendragons in 2012. Eric was so rude to me, told me if there was even one fingerprint on the returned speakers, I wouldn’t receive my full refund. When I reminded him that one speaker had arrived damaged and that I made him aware of it a week earlier, he seemed to “forget” our conversation. He just said make sure they look brand new before I shipped them out. I could tell by his tone he was very angry.

In all my years of buying high end, I never had an experience like that before. A week After the speakers were returned and the receiving department signed for them, I called to ask when the refund would be forthcoming. Eric very angrily told me they had to be fully checked out before a refund was issued. I made sure to tell him not to get fingerprints on the speakers. Another week went by and still no refund so I called again and 2 days later, my PayPal was credited. This is what happens when you buy from a company with limited employees and on a shoestring budget.
If it's worth... i didn't had better experiences with bigger companies like Dynaudio and their resellers. I bought a pair of disgusting contour 60 which i wanted immediately to return (in europe you can return watever you want within two weeks if the purchase has taken place via internet), but Dynaudio refused.
Stereo5: Yikes...that is just way over the top. Glad its not just me!
*UPDATE*
So even though Eric seems to have a bit of a rep for his attitude, I felt Tammy was respectful and helpful. Even though my color preference was still not available, she did have one in black ready to ship. She offered me that instead of a refund if I wanted it, so I accepted. So, hopefully the story has a positive outcome and the sub fits my needs.
Tomic: Your point is valid, but I did order the sub for a reason, and for all I know this guy is the audio equivalent of the soup nazi from Seinfeld. Not sure an order cancelation is going to have much impact either way, but we'll see I guess.
Well, first impressions are very positive. I run Maggies for mains, which are notoriously hard to match with subs, at least for music. I went with this sub because I generally like a smaller, more nimble driver. This one having dual 10"ers gave me the quick and tight bass I like, with a bit more output. So far, thats pretty much what Im getting. In this very open room, im not quite getting output down to the rated 20hz (I didnt expect to), but a very musical low end down to 25-28hz suits me fine.
All Ive done is plop it down and dial it it by ear so far, so it should get even better as I narrow down placement and calibration.
If youre looking for an HT sub, this isnt it. If you want musicality and clean, tight bass, so far this one is a keeper.
I got my Moabs too. They are with no doubts better as my Contour 60, which is easy becasue even my small and old genelecs are better, even the 40 years old vintage bose 505 of a friend of mine are much, but much better as the Contour 60. For better i mean simply more accurate regarding timbre and soundstage. Said that the Mobs are very interesting, revealing and fun. But my Contour 3.3 (which i owned only for two years) are still much better (timbre and soundstage). However i think the amplification i'm using with the Moabs,  krell 400xi, s not the optimal one.

WOW... sounds like a similar story of mine.

I have personally owned 5 pairs of Tekton speakers... (in order):

- Pendragon

- Lore Impulse (no longer sold)

- M Lore

- Double Impact

- Impact Monitor

All decent sounding speakers, nothing crazy special, but for the money... a pretty darn nice sounding speaker.  The cabinet quality and parts quality is pretty low and all the cabinets sound very hollow.  Don't waste any extra money on a fancy finish - it will NOT look good and it WILL take even longer to receive the speakers than it already does.

What I generally liked about the Tekton speakers that I have owned over the years is that they did not really seem to need to best/greatest front end to sound really decent.  You didn't need a $10k front end to get some decent sound out of them, whereas many others (Focal, B&W, Dynaudio and the likes) almost require a much more sophisticated front end.

What I do not like (and the reason that I will NEVER buy another pair or ever recommend them again) is the owner... Eric.  I have spoken to him on the phone at least 4-5 times over the years and the last call with him was a game changer for me.

I had ordered a pair of speakers (2-10 Perfect SET) and understood that they would take an undetermined amount of time to build/ship (which is kinda normal with Tekton).  After about 6-7 weeks, I sent an email asking to "cancel the order".  Never got a reply.  After another 2 weeks... sent a 2nd email to "CANCEL MY ORDER". Again, never heard back.  Finally I called and Eric picks up right away.  I explained that I had sent two separate emails, about 2 weeks apart with no response and that I wanted to cancel my order.  His attitude changed suddenly and drastically and he told me to "call him tomorrow".

When I called back the next day, I did not get an answer, so I sent a text, again asking to cancel the order and provided my name and the speaker that I had ordered.  All the sudden I get a call immediately from him and the tone was not good from the get go.

He started ranting about people canceling orders and he has to refund this guy or that guy because of this reason or that reason and he is sick and tired of it.  He told me that he just refunded a guy on a pair of Moab's because the guy said that he got cancer.  Then starts ranting about that his painter quit and went elsewhere for more money and that he is out painting the speakers himself.  And that he cannot answer every call and email.

In my opinion, you CANNOT try to do it all.... you cannot answer the phone, answer emails, paint speakers and design new models and everything else that needs to happen to run a successful business... it will not work.  If you are not willing to hire some people to help things go more smoothly, then you will eventually have some serious issues.

I was so upset at the way that Eric was talking to me that I told him... "Forget the order cancellation... go ahead and make the speakers, ship them to me and I will take a loss selling them when they arrive".  If he is so busy and cannot get a pair of speakers out to someone in under 3 months, then there is a problem.   And if that is the case, then WHY NOT ALLOW ME TO CANCEL MY ORDER!!!  That would help him move onto other builds by cancelling my order.

I have never seen a person be so helpful and appreciative of a repeat customer buying several models in the past and then talk like he did to me on the phone that day... wish I had recorded the call.... WOW.

Not buying that story. Why would you keep the order in place being treated like that. Why take the loss?

Sounds like he all ready does.

Mike

Not buying the story?  WTFF?  I placed the order, waited a long time, decided to just cancel it... called him and he acted like a TOTAL AND COMPLETE A-HOLE and did not want to refund me.  BTW... there was a cancellation fee that I had to eat for doing so.  And he was incredibly rude AFTER the order and only when I told him that I wanted to cancel.  Where do you idiots come out from under???
