About users with hidden agendas

If you know that a user is a dealer and they fail to disclose and attacks other users because they make a point against their interest, do you expose the user?

I know of a gentleman here that continuously posts and goes after people and does not disclose who he is.

What are the ethics of this forum?

no Ted you would like to twist the narrative as you always do to make it seem that there was always a hidden agenda. As is friggin’ patently obvious we only just got to find out about this new line of deviant behaviour.

you DO appear to display strong recidivist patterns

@jerryg123

That is one hell of a read over on audioholics 🤣

Quite the recidivist

Perhaps he may be of assistance to you? An opinion or two, or three from him?

so based on the comments below, seems we can resolve a lot of this with an open promise by ted that he will use, and only use, his username ’ted_denney’ with ending subscript stating ’ted denney iii, lead designer...’ -- as he just did his most recent post below -- on all future posts heretofore...

...and he will also promise he will stay above using alternate handles?

Me, the lead designer of Synergistic Research, started a series of threads speaking under my own name and title

no Ted, the whole point is you yoiu didn’t use your title so people weren’t aware of your commercial interests and what you were peddling. You continually lie and delete in your attempts to re-write history. Remember when the OP posted proof that threads could be removed, you knew you were busted, so you had admin remove the post. Doesn’t reflect very well on the bona fides of your Profucts Ted.

True or False?

The following is a common sentiment from some who claim to be audiophiles.

If you hear something but can’t measure it, you only think you heard a difference.

This notion is also common among people who claim to possess an accomplished understanding of audio, especially when achieving a high level of performance for a minimal investment.

So who’s right? On the one hand we have Objectivists who claim if you can’t measure it, you can’t possibly hear it or if you do, its expectation bias and self delusion. Are these people correct? Do they get as good as a sound, or better for far less money by ignoring cables, power cords, mechanical isolation, basically any accessory that many have found to dramatically improve performance despite a lack measurements? Do those who dismiss expensive digital to analog converters as being no better than rather common digital components with decent measurements get just as high a performance level as those of us with MSB and DCS? Do people who claim it’s all about finding perfect speaker placement, do these people outperform those of us with systems that cost multiples more than what they pay (Who also pay close attention to speaker placement as well as everything else)? Or do those of us who pay attention to cables— digital, analog, and power, what we set our components on top of, how we place our speakers, acoustics, and tweaks, expensive DACs and the like, do we get better sound? Who’s right? And how do we ultimately determine sound quality?

This is a seller mantra...

Audio experience is mostly an experimental and correlative process between the perceiving ears and the control of the gear and ESPECIALLY the specific acoustic control of the speakers /room relation... It is a science based experimental PROCESS between a subjectivity and some objective factors.., Not a static state after buying some gear...It is a personal history of audio discoveries not some subjective impression only...

It is not because someone is PLEASED by what he just bought that it means that "ultimately audio is subjective"... Save for someone who sells something..

I prefer to sell creativity...and intelligence... At no cost...Save thinking process time...

Instead of attacking you like you did for my system/room, i only argued with LOGIC  without never putting doubts with innuendo about the quality of your products, i only claim that anybody can create a room at no cost...You only made innuendo about my system to eliminate my claim  with Ad hominem argument... You never used any sound  argument save your empty mantra: "audio is subjective" which is not even wrong , it is an half truth, then something worse than a lie...

And dont point to my virtual page , everybody is able to see it by himself, i put the images myself there... I am not ashamed of myself at all...

ultimately Audio is Subjective.

Interesting. I didn't catch these patterns or behaviors in those threads because I didn't read through them. They're the type of threads where people just get on a rant and someone disagrees, etc. The only threads I have less time for are the ones where the new owner of a product is so thrilled with X, that they tell everyone else they need to buy it and argue with everyone that doesn't agree with them.

I have seen some posts where TD insults people and later says they insulted him, etc. The whole accumulation of this stuff is the rickety bridge I usually try to avoid on the path towards audio ecstasy.

And there we have it, the hidden agenda, not so hidden now, is out in the open. Me, the lead designer of Synergistic Research, started a series of threads speaking under my own name and title asking, what is audio really all about? Is it about the numbers? Is it about graphs? Or is it about enjoying our stereos? This made certain people uncomfortable, angry even. They begin acting out, some were even rude to me and others so I called them on their BS and they started this retaliatory thread and dog piled in. Their behavior patterns are always repeated, and are clear to see in this thread and others.

Bottom line guys, ultimately Audio is Subjective.

Yours in music,

Ted Denney III

Lead Designer/CEO Synergistic Research Inc.

@bjesien I would not want or expect anything from him.

In this thread, which I started to find out how to handle the situation privately with the forum administrators because I did not know the forum's protocol, he was called by name by many others sharing their experience with him, he continued to degrade others like @mahgister for example.

All I did, after he was named by others, was to explain my situation, because like you, asked to explain what happened. The sad thing is that multiple threads, like the one I respectfully commented, are no gone so you can't corroborate.

I know I have never degraded him, or anyone, because achieves nothing but to highlight unkindness. All I did is to point out what he was saying is not true by summarizing the specs, which I have contributed to, and shared the links to the governing bodies, like IEEE and Ethernet, documentation for everyone interested in understanding and maybe learning.

Frankly, it is sad that all this energy spent in this thread was not used to share knowledge on more pleasant things; but at the same time, for myself it is important to share not just good experiences, but bad ones so others don't have navigate through them.

This is particularly important, because in this forum there is no way to ignore some users that are just rude and degrade others for no good reason other than having to do so to defend false statements supporting the products you sell and continue to lead threads in the wrong direction.

It is useless to debate with anyone unable to be logical and with an agenda..

I myself always present arguments...

Argument are a string of thesis attached in an order...

being conscious of our own premises is very important to pounder the value of a conclusion...

Reading a book and understanding it call for that elementary knowledge of logic and some consciousness about our own internal state of mind at the time of the reading....

Many are unable and anyway unwilling to be logical ...And conscious of what they are doing anyway...They do it without being conscious at all...They are mind conditioned...

Add to this necessary logical tool in any debate the complex information we must understand to speak about anything in a wise way...Do you think many people are able to do that?

For example...

In audio experience the ONLY important CONCRETE experimental discovery i ever make is acoustic science...

Believe me or not there is almost no thread about acoustic in audiogon...

Some ask how do we manage our room yes... But it is relatively rare specific questions compared to the vast other unimportant one and a question asking for very complex matter...

But no one created here an acoustic theoretical and practical information thread save me few days ago... Not much interest manifested..

Think about that...

Acoustic is the most important fact for audiophile experience, not the name of your Dac, turn table amplifier or speaker designer..

Between the acoustical settings of the recording room of a musical show and your ears it is not your specific audio system the most important factor but the specific state of your speakers/room relation to your specific ears...

The 2 most inportant factors are acoustical : the recording room and your own room...

Then what are small room acoustic power and means?

If you think you know think again...

And look at my thread...

@bjesien

Well …. For starters You will have no credibility in Teddy No3’s world as you have not published any images of your system that would enable him to judge your audiophile credentials and therefore your worth!

I'm not sure of the intent with TD on this thread, but I think he may be winning this battle. Is the opposition saying that he starts posts and tries to sway people to his products without identifying himself as a designer? I think he is posting to generate conversation and have people become more comfortable and trust him and his business. He can have a disrespectful tone at times, but maybe he never learned to play nice with all people. What do you want him get counseling or go to confession? I didn't read this whole thread but what's the reason for tearing him a new one?

@astolfor

thanks for explaining your experience and view on this, appreciate it... and i understand and empathize

you seem much wiser for having had the experience, as unpleasant as it was, and i hope you are now much better able to extract good info from this site to achieve your desires in hifi and music

@jjss49 here is my problem 😵‍💫 I am new to the forum and took interest I 3 threads, now gone, where @ted_denney did not have any information that he was a seller so I respectfully commented one a few things that are just not true about Ethernet and I posted the links to Ethernet’s governing body specs and IEEE specs.

I do not need to prove anything because it is in black and white documentation from the Ethernet gv and IEEE. It is all there for anyone to read.

I had known that he was selling the nonsense I would have not made further comments.

At no moment I was rude or unreasonable or Un respectful. But @ted_denney when he realized that what he was saying had no engineering or science facts became personal, aggressive, made fun of my name, and asked me to prove all of it. He also questioned my integrity which he has no base for it.

He did not do this with me but with others, and many of them called him out by name which I had no intention to make his name public. I am better than that.

i do not know everything or am the ultimate authority, I seek knowledge from those who know more than me, and there are Multitudes of them, when I can share my knowledge I do it in a respectful and kind way, because even those who do not know as much as I do in a topic, know a lot of things I don’t.

i know English is not my language so I apologize for bad grammar and using wrong words, but I hope that I provided you with a fair explanation. There are so many kind people in this forum that made me sad he treats people the way he does when the don’t agree with him.

for whatever faults, and harking back (as we always should) to the title and premise of the original post...

ted denney for all his writings here, states on all substantive posts exactly who he is, not in the form of a a-gon handle, but in real life...

so some feel his company may sell pretty ridiculous stuff, with some snake oil quotient... be it as it may (or not, this judgment is rightfully in the eye of the beholder), but you know exactly who’s speaking... that is fair ball by me...i can then discount what is said accordingly, because i know who it is...

so what is the problem?

@pesky_wabbit reposted @ted_denney posts that I guess were deleted on 2/3@7:03PM.

Please just give up the arguing about deleting postings. It makes Python’s “The Arguement” tame by comparison. Really, how about this whole discussion? Clearly you need to be clued in on the specs AND how something sounds which is impacted by the specs typically, although not always.

Waiting for your oft talked about (by you) screenshots that I supposedly don’t want people to see and that I somehow coerced AG into deleting (and that you have access to, yea right, but never produce.) In the meantime…

you ain’t seen thumper’s wayback machine…….everything Ted even thought about…fully able to re-post like it was never nuked. Once you put something up on the internet it’s NEVER gone..

@ted_denney It’s a good thing I took screenshots. Lots of screenshots.

Taking screen shots may be sufficient, but a method I find useful recently with threads becoming even more ephemeral than the 24 hour news cycle is (on a computer) to right click and save as web page complete.

That saved page will not be updated.

Very cool.  If you save them under a purpose named directory it will make it easier for forensics geeks from NCIS to find them.

You can only delete you own posts and threads. You can make a complaint to the administrators and request that a post other than your own be removed, and from the evidence @Ted has provided you can request that a complete thread be removed.

By OP I meant original poster of the post, not poster of the thread, I think that is where the confusion arose.

@pesky_wabbit , maybe my English is missing in translation, are you saying I can delete someone else’s posts? I can only delete the thread or my posts. Even if I did  I would.

no, not at all, I am not an admin and have no special powers, I think you are entirely correct. Only the OP or admin can remove them. I think the latest deletion goes some way towards confirming your suspicions.’Gon is very much a commercial enterprise.

@holmz me no remove any thread ever, directly or indirectly - for the record. Only ONE person did.

u have big imagination, should be novelist...

I was not talking about you @pesky_wabbit . And I don’t think it was in one your threads that the posts were deleted.

I assumed it was a forum administrator. Or are you saying that you are the only admin that could have done it?

Should I assume that folks with negative responses to a product, have purchased that product, and didn’t like it? If something has a return policy, and I don’t like it,I’ll return it.  If I don’t like something that I try, that should mean no one will like it?

@ted_denney I have a Master Coupler X2, just wanted to say despite the heat you're getting in here, I thank you for making good gear, I'm very happy with it.

Some people are just hostile, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes they're just hostile and good at looking for a reason!

@o_holter - I guess it's a bit like walking into a real store, you have to walk by the shiny wrapped head height products until you find what you're looking for. And when you're ready to cash out, there's other things to distract you at the checkout.

Even if really specific searches (the more specific the more likely your search will require less wading) expect advertising, this is how they make profit.

There are objective listeners, half-way objective, and the 'money talks' group. Hopefully a small minority in this forum. I am of course NOT thinking of those who disclose their attachments openly, who often contribute a lot to the forum (e g Ralph Karsten / Atma-sphere; Duke Lejeune / Audiokinesis, and Jonathan Carr / Lyra), giving their professional judgement without promoting their own products.

It was Bob Dylan who famously said, money doesn't talk it swears. But maybe 'whispers' is often more precise. Camouflaged interests.

I think the situation is even worse, on the web. There is a new style of halfway-advertising, not clearly showing the money connection. Or, not new exactly, but certainly growing.

Lets say I search for user experience of product X. I Google X, but have to wade through ten or more pages of commercial or semi-commercial content, before I find something useful (actual user experience, objective listening). I wonder about tips and tricks, how to avoid this overflow of commerce, and instead get right to what I look for. Maybe someone can advice, or, if this is relevant for many here at the forum, it could be a new thread.

I do not understand the censorship in this place. I posted a picture with how it is possible to delete a thread with comments and now it is gone?

@holmz me no remove any thread ever, directly or indirectly - for the record. Only ONE person did.

if you choose to ignore the allegations of the OP and condone the conduct of Mr Denney, which he has attempted to obliterate from history, so be it.

There is a lot about Mr Denney’s conduct that gives subjectivism a very bad rap and makes it an an easy target for critique: deceit dishonesty and lies do not provide for a sound philosophical foundation and make it very difficult for others who may have a subjectivist viewpoint to gain credibility.

The post by @atmasphere is most informative, and in my opinion was far too valuable to leave locked away.

The second post merely confirms what Denney denies in this thread - that he got personal with the OP.

There are likely a few areas to offer criticism.

Personally I find that having posts deleted for no reason makes it hard to trust in the integrity of the whole site.
It is either puppet strings being pulled, or something else… but it is an unattractive thing to have a “forum”, that then becomes a “forum -10%” overnight.

The two people mentioned seemed to have the power to get that done often, either themselves, or with help.

audiogon = post-gone = thread-gone… more often than not.

Why do you keep attacking and criticizing Mr. Denney is there something about him that causes you pain, discomfort or fear he has not attacked anyone here as best as I can see, assess, and determine.

there’s more that Ted censored, especially pertinent to the OP

Astroturf, I noticed you don’t have a picture of your stereo, why am I not surprised? And your 25 years as an electrical engineer, does not disapprove the fact it’s clear as day to hear the effect of digital cables, and other things you fail to grasp. High End audio is subjective at the end of the day

A lot of what engineers have labeled as "distortion" is actually rich, full sound.

@jmkrajnik They are usually correct on that matter- ’full, rich sound’ is often caused by a 2nd harmonic, and that is the tonality that the ear assigns to it.

@ted_denney

Really? 99% of ‘cases?’ What cases?

Most amps made today are not high end amps so that number is probably pretty close!

The distortion signature is the ’sonic signature’ of any amplifier. If the amp sounds ’thin and dry’, its likely because the 2nd and 3rd harmonics are suppressed, allowing the higher ordered harmonics to be unmasked, IOW audible to the ear; this despite an otherwise very low THD.

Distortion is inescapable. Whether the designer recognizes the significance of that fact is a different matter. The ear uses the higher ordered harmonic to sense sound pressure, and so its keenly sensitive to them as well- and this is also inescapable and also often ignored- witness the last 60 years of bright and harsh solid state amps.

Since distortion is a fact of life, the pragmatic designer will design a circuit which makes the least objectionable distortions- and that will be the 2nd and 3rd harmonics, which is why tube amps often sound smoother and more detailed (in a way that I don’t yet understand, somehow the 2nd and 3rd harmonics assist the ear in winnowing out detail, quite unlike the higher orders) than 99% of all amps out there.

The obvious implication is, if you want a solid state amp or if you want an amp that is significantly lower distortion but is still musically involving, the amp will have to have a distortion signature similar to a tube amplifier while at the same time being considerable lower overall. This means that the lower ordered harmonics will still have to predominate, allowing the higher ordered harmonics to be masked.

IF the amp has a distortion signature of this type it won’t matter if its tube or solid state. This stuff does show up in measurements and you can be completely objective about it- if you cause your hand to move to take the measurements in the first place and you have the test equipment to do so. This sort of stuff rarely shows on the spec sheets!

Alternatively if the test equipment is lacking (for example you can measure the THD but you can’t show the various harmonics) the listening is a less accurate method of ascertaining if the design is working.

Here are two things a successful design will need to sound musical:

1) the distortion signature will be consistent from 20Hz to at least 15KHz. If there is insufficient gain bandwidth product to support the needed feedback to conform to this requirement, then no feedback will be used.

To be clear there is nothing wrong with feedback provided enough of it is present (>35dB at all frequencies). The problem with feedback is you need a lot of it and that means you have to have a lot of gain bandwidth product to support it. Most amp designs in the last 60 years simply don’t have enough of either so they sound bright and harsh.

Put another way, in the bass region most solid state amps have plenty of feedback and so play bass rather well. But when you get to 7-10KHz things are different- the feedback is vastly reduced since the gain bandwidth product won’t support it- and so distortion goes up. You can verify this by graphing distortion vs frequency and its plain to see. Most amp manufacturers avoid publishing this sort of thing...

Feedback will by its very nature bifurcate (double) frequencies due to non-linearities at the feedback node. Thus an amp with feedback will have harmonic and inharmonic information (also due to IMD caused by the feedback node) as its noise floor (this is not new information; Norman Crowhurst was writing about this 60 years ago). IF you can apply enough feedback to the design without introducing stability issues (oscillation) then the design can clean up this bit in the process and its all good.

2) the distortion signature will be benign as I’ve already described.

To be sure there are no successful amps out there for which there was no objective testing. They simply don’t exist. There are successful amps out there for which the testing was quite minimal. But there is always some bench testing.

You can see from my comments above that this is all knowable. Whether one has the intention to know it is a vastly different matter! Since 99% of amps are built to make money it follows that the extra attempt to make the amp sound like music (per the distortion characteristics I outlined) will not be taken.

If that intention is there, cost will not be much of a variable. Intention is what drives high end- not cost. So instead of being built to make money, an amp can also be built to sound like music.
