A CD player for....CD’s

Since it's' all going through your receiver, why don't you stream it instead?

You'll have the best possible jitter performance, and much more convenient, not to mention you need to listen to online radio, it's amazing. :)

Just got an Emotiva ERC-4 a CDP with DAC, great sound
use my macbook to stream Itunes and internet radio(  especially WWOZ out of NOLA) into the coax input via a spdif. 
great sound rich full.

Replace your Denon with a Oppo 105, which can be had on the used market for ~ $7-800

It's power supply is its weakest link (as with all inexpensive BluRay players

on Ebay you can buy an upgrade Linear Power Supply Module + upgrade the IEC and wire that plugs directly into the LPSM

Yes many bluray players play bluray, sacd, cd. My Yamaha does and it sounds excellent. (I list it plus my cd player on my system if that will help.)

Is it worth the effort to move into a DVD-A/SACD unit too ! 
My Denon doesn’t have 7.1 input though.......

I use a Bryston DAC3, which has 4 HDMI inputs, and and Oppo 105 as a transport.  Your BDP would do well here, and you can use the DAC for other digital sources.

I know Denon makes some nice CD players and I thought I would just get a dedicated CD player and start there instead of going through the whole turntable album tonearm cartridge.

When it's right there is nothing like Vinyl. To get there can cost a few bucks. I wouldn't listen to anything else for many years, R to R and Records.  Now my ears aren't as good. I'm not as patient, and my grandson, hee hee loves to touch everything.  I have several vintage, pieces. That's my thing, any more with TT. Thoren TD 121 124, Garrard 401 (not a 301 fan), Russco, Sparta, QRK., broadcast TT.  I just love Um. SME 3012s, and BOB Denon MC carts, work great. I like making the plinths and all that stuff.  My GS almost can't harm the Broadcast TT washing machine motors, die cast, HEAVY. Even have a gear shifter
16/33/45/78.

Digital is good though, I like it almost as much.
Sony make a great SDAC player.  I mean top of the line. 350.00 or less used. Maybe 15-20 years old. The same stuff on the inside of 3500. Pasport. SAME!! Better in some cases. Just folks love to spend that money...and think an XLR connection is an absolute.  It's not..

I have a Denon also, lot of features for sure XLR, single din rack mount.  Still not a Sony by a long shot, but great for shop/backyard sound system. Mine is a 5xxx  series and a 8xxx I think,  both great just,  more features and different years. I'm looking for a third one now.  Check them out. Their not a single DIN. 2 or 3U at least..Very transparent in comparison to most of the CD/Burner/Streamer setups, they (streamers/burners) cost a few quid too.

Right. Way too much trouble. Not to mention you have to figure out, you know, stuff. 

Denon's 1600 model is very nice.

Do you use your bdp’s hdmi output? Have you tried to see if the digital coaxial or optical output to your avr gives you better sound than hdmi for cd playback.

Another option is to get a cd transport and use your avr’s internal dac. You have a totl denon avr which has good dacs.

If you want to add a tt the basic Rega, Project, Thorens tt w/ factory cartridge would be a good starting point, but you probably want a better phono preamp, like a Schiit Mani, instead of the avr's afterthought phono stage.

Denon makes a nice transport, IME.  An old Theta universal player has a great internal DAC as does Ayre.  Denon has has a digital output that you can choose a DAC that present sound that resonates with your personal taste.  My only recommendation is to trial before buying.  

From your question, I sense you desire the convenience of a digital with the presentation of more analog signal.  This is certainly doable, but the investment in either direction, digital or analog, is significant.   What you read on the forums or reviews are only suggestions.  Your room, your system, your ears.  Determine what your system current has that you enjoy, what it lacks and what your goals are.  

Finally, do consider room set up, positioning of speakers, room treatments first.  Here may lay the best benefit for the initial investment.

Being strategic will help improve your return and avoid frustrations.

there has never been a better time to purchase a CD player. Strong selection in the demo/used market.  If you enjoy your Denon receiver, start w/ a Denon cd player.  Keep me posted.
