Audiolab 8000A and 8000S
I thought you'd biamp since I couldn't figure out what you would gain from using the preamp of one to drive the poweramp of the other. From what I remember the 8000S is a more capable amp than the 8000A, but the 8000A has tone controls and a phono...
Audiolab 8000A and 8000S
What are you trying to achieve ?Do you want to bi-amp your speakers (i.e. use one integrated to drive the tweeters and the other to drive woofers ?)Or do you have some other goal ?With a bit more info I might be able to offer some help.
Toslink to SPDIF RCA digital converter
Monarchy audio DIP provides de-jittering and conversion of format, and can be had for as little as $100 used.I have one and it works quite well in my modest system.
Need help picking budget Turntable
Used Rega planar 3 with a new super bias or elys cartridge. The planar 3 will resell for what it costs you if the need ever arises. There really is nothing to go wrong, so used is as good as new.If you can afford the elys cartridge then the 3 poin...
B&W 604 S3's...
Just goes to show it's personal taste ... I've never heard a pair of monitor audios that I've liked ! Oh well.
B&W 604 S3's...
I have only heard the 603s. They were impressive in the amount of sound produced ... really foot tapping, and definitely bring a grin to the face. However they did not seem like masters of detail and subtlety.I guess they would suit rock/pop very ...
Digital Front End: Critical Listening
A couple of thoughts:1) The marantz transport could be the limiting factor if the 360S is not reclocking the digital input. Does the 360s reclock the digital input to remove jitter ? The marantz player probably does not have a very good clock inte...
Are Sub-woofers really for music?
Try to audition a REL, such as the Strata. If you don't like it then you probably won't like any sub ... but I expect that you'll like it a lot. Mine has transformed my system.
New to Vinyl, TT suggestions please
I think a used rega with rega cartridge is about as simple and low maintainance as it gets. IMHO one thing that the regas excell at is bass .. very rhythmic. They're perhaps not quite so good with detail, but still good for the money. You might ge...
Your Favorite, Most Outstanding Guitar Solo
Brian May from Queen's "We Will Rock You".Brian May from Queen's "Crazy little thing called love".Both fit the songs perfectly, both played well. To my mind Brian May is one of the most underrated guitarists in fusing technical ability with a grea...
What will you be playing to celebrate?
Gunbei, you said it all, much better than I could. Just because there are some nuts in the White House doesn't mean that the US is not a great country, and, on balance, a force for good in the world. If only McCain had one the Republican primaries.
Imaging and soundstage
Read this ... it describes how the brain processes reflected sounds, and how the imaging of speakers depends on the delay of the reflected signal path (relative to the direct path) being outside a range.http://www.audiophysic.de/info/aufstellung/i...
Finest subwoofer for music under $1,000?
A used REL strata 3 is quite good for that price. You might even get one of their larger models. RELs are very subtle ... to the point where I often can't tell that mine is doing anything until I turn it off and the music loses all depth. Integrat...
REL Strata III with Paradigm Studio 40 V.2
http://www.stereophile.com//loudspeakerreviews/693/index.htmlI think I agree with nearly all of their comments, except that, like many reviewers, they say that the treble is rolled off. I certainly don't find that the Spica Angelus treble is rolle...
Is solid state on the brink of extinction?
http://users.ece.gatech.edu/~mleach/ece4435/f01/ClassD2.pdfGreat link explaining class D amplifiers. I think the Bryston web site said it best, that class D efficiency will see it replace analog solid state in almost all consumer (read circuit cit...
