Marantz CD 72 MKII SE
I have an old player with a CDM2 and it can be a bit noisy, particularly at the start of discs, when they are spinning fastest. There may or may not be a similar problem with the CDM4.I wouldn't like to say the sonic character since it's pretty sy...
Marantz CD 72 MKII SE
You really mean the 72 ? It must be 8+ years old by now. Considered the player to beat at its price point in the mid 90s ... the old marantz (52, 72) seem very reliable judging by how many friends still have them (my 67SE has been flawless). In ab...
stuck in quagmire of speakers, someone pull me out
I'd add the Epos es12s and then go to a few dealers and listen (try to use the same amp). You don't have to hear them all, just listen until one sounds right. You'll know when you hear it. You have a good list, but now it's up to your personal tas...
Cartridge for Rega planar 2
You'll find people selling the Rega cartridges either new or nearly new on Agon for quite cheap. I have a super bias on my P3 and I quite like it ... it's not too bright and quite natural sounding. I'd be tempted to find an elys or super elys.Had ...
Help me pick a monitor
I have no personal experience with them but the Green Mountain Europas seem to be attracting a lot of attention. Search archives for reviews and descriptions. They interest me because they sound like a spica TC-50 brought up to present.
13' x 9' room big enough?
Quadophile .. REL ST series are the music subs the Q series are for HT. I have a strata3. You don't need much power in a small room.
13' x 9' room big enough?
Perfect room for monitors + subwoofer. Monitors can be placed per Cardas or AudioPhysic for imaging and subwoofer placed to load the room with bass. I have a slightly smaller room and the sound is outstanding.I actually think smaller can be better...
Discontinued components that you wish the manufact
Spica, Nakamichi tape decks, the original Sony trinitron TVs that lasted about 25 years (we had one growing up ... it was a year older than my sister, and it finally died a couple of years after she graduated).
How does a tube amp "see" a REL sub?
Since the REL does not apply a high-pass filter to the signal going to the main speakers, as do some other subs, I would think that the impedance curve of the main speakers would be almost completely unaffected, and that the simple equation would ...
Which speakers excel at low volume?
Eldartford ... we must have posted at exactly the same time (and on the same wavelength !)
Which speakers excel at low volume?
The sense of weight can be solved by adding a powered sub in my experience. When I'm listening quietly (when we're trying to get the little one to sleep) I notch the sub up a little (only a very little) and this compensates for the psycho-acoustic...
Anyone hear the new B&W 705s?
See if you can audition some Epos M12s, or Green mountain audio europas, or the new Quad11Ls. Not saying they're better, but they're all about the same size and cost and all very highly rated.
How does a tube amp "see" a REL sub?
The impedance of the REL sub is in parallel to the impedance of the speakers, since it is connected to the same speaker terminals as the main speakers. When you add parallel impedances A and B you use the equation :Imp = 1/(1/A +1/B)Therefore if w...
Maximum distance from my monitors
It sounds a bit too far back to me. I would get close to equilateral triangle for good imaging, as I've found imaging is degraded as I get further from the speakers. The trade off is that you'll lose bass reinforcement if neither you nor the speak...
Hyperbole Watchdog Forum
It's not just audio. Marketing in the US has gone mad. It's almost impossible to have a cup of coffee that isn't "gourmet", and my local supermarket sells bread that is apparently "artisan". And if you ever come to silicon valley you'll discover t...
