What Center Speaker to use with EPOS ES11
The REL is a really nice sub for music. I'm not sure it will be capable of making the room shake for HT if that is what you're after. I use mine exclusively for music, as I don't have a HT setup. Epos has a new minimonitor ... I'm not sure if they...
Used Record Shows in San Francisco Bay Area...
The Fremont store just lowered prices for all used LPs from 50c to 25c. I found 10 LPs there yesterday ... about half of them are keepers after a good cleaning.I'm using this as an opportunity to amass a huge collection of classical music. I'll wo...
Audiolab 8000A and 8000S
Glad it worked out ... thanks for letting us know.
Marantz CDR-500 - Help
Does it attempt to spin the disc after insertion, or do you not even hear a spinning ?If it spins but does not read I'd guess the laser pickup has gone.If it does not spin it could be the switch that detects that the drawer has closed has malfunct...
Moving to UK, what to do?
The food in the UK is more variable than in the US. Somehow bad restaurants stay in business longer in the UK. That said if you eat out based on personal recommendations I would say that the UK restaurants are slightly better than the US, if somew...
Phono pre-amp problems
I know nothing about this particular amp, but it's very common to mute the output of a preamp using relays while it is powered on (to prevent a loud thump going to the speakers). It sounds like this is malfunctioning, as sugarbrie suggested. I doub...
replacing tweeter help
I think you'd be better trading the speakers for something else. If you mod them they'll be worthless on the used market so you'll really have to live with them, and as Drew pointed out it may not be a simple modification. If the speaker is over br...
Moving to UK, what to do?
Step down transformers are cheap and easily available. In the UK you can try www.maplin.co.uk. You can buy a kilowatt step down transformer for less than 100 dollars. The turntable might be the only tricky part, but check with all equipment manufac...
Transport that use the Phillips Pro MKII
I think the audio note higher end transports use a philips CD pro mechanism. CDT-2 comes to mind. Also the Italian Northstar transport uses a phlips CD-pro, though I think it has a proprietary DAC interface (low jitter spec.)
Used Record Shows in San Francisco Bay Area...
Rasputin also has a store in Fremont, at 880 and Mowry, in case you're in the south bay. There's loads of used LPs for 50cents each, but be prepared to spend some time as the majority are thrashed. They also have used CDs.I've had about 30-40 LPs ...
Is my 1988 Nakamichi OMS-1 worth repairing?
If it's only $150 I'd probably repair it. Sure you can get a new DVD player for less than $150 but it will be junk - landfill fodder.
A small annoyance while biamping
Try swapping the left and right speaker connections. That will show whether it's a speaker problem or an amp problem. You could also try swapping L-R connections between pre and power amps and see if the problem changes channel. This would tell you...
Unequal volume between channels - Help
I think kotta's correct. Many, if not most pots have poor channel balance at very low volumes, but this usually is not present at normal listening volumes. However the crackling is probably dirt, and can be cleaned. The quick way to do this is to t...
Looking for a used $500-$700 amp to warm up sound
My experience with NAD amps is that they are on the warm side of neutral, and might help your situation. That said I have never heard your speakers.I'd suggest buying used so that you can resell for little or no loss if it doesn't work out.
Audiolab 8000Q pre-amp,
Also check if the amp has a muting relay (like my 8000C). Malfunctioning of this relay could also be the cause. On my 8000C the relay that mutes the output also switches the output to the headphone socket (I think), so you could check to see if the...
