What's your favorite lyric from a song?
From Paul Weller's wildwood album"like mercury gliding,a silver teardrop that falls, and I can't catch her, through my fingers she's gone" ... from "Foot of the Mountain"."We used to meet each others eyes, and that's all we'd have to say,now we don't...
Best-front ported monitor speakers?
Spendor 3/5 are completely unported and sound pretty good when very close to the rear wall.
Why Don't People Search The Forum Archives?
If you would just do a search I think you'd find that this question has already been asked :-)
What did your first "real" system consist of?
In 1990 I bought a Dual CS5000 with an AT95 cartridge, a NAD 3020, and a pair of JPW Sonata speakers. It was a great little system and I used it to death. Total cost was about $350 as a package from a dealer.Three years later I traded the Dual for...
Please help. I have crosstalk...
If it's only noticeable when the volume is cranked up then I'd say it's probably normal for that amplifier, and may be as a result of how they do the source switching, and / or the layout of the traces on the PCB.My guess is you'll have to live wi...
Please help. I have crosstalk...
How loud is the CD coming through relative to the TV ? I once had a terrible crosstalk problem until I discovered I'd accidentally plugged the CD player into the tape-out (reaching behind a cabinet in the dark). Once I'd corrected this the crossta...
Alternative to Plinius SA-102?
If you're in Sweden have you checked out Densen (from nearby Denmark). The B200/B300 pre/power setup might work for you, and by all accounts it has naim like timing and rhythm but with smoother treble, and better soundstaging. I own their baby amp...
Would Audiogoners be interested in this?
Good idea. I'm so out of touch with new releases.
Cobalt cable theory on bi-wiring. Fact or fiction?
I don't buy zoya's theory for a minute. The frequencies we are talking about are so low that the wavelength of the signals is about 10 miles long. (3*10^8/20*10^3 = 15000 meters). Therefore all points on the cable are at the same voltage, and see t...
WOW see how the sonusfaber amati homage is made
Hmmm ... being an engineer "function before form" type of person I admire their woodworking, but I'm wondering if a buyer is paying more for a piece of furniture than the sound ?
Cobalt cable theory on bi-wiring. Fact or fiction?
I agree with their reasoning. To me biwiring only makes financial sense if I am biamping, and biamping gets most gains when an active crossover is used. But this is not to say that biwiring with a single amp, or biamping without an active crossover...
What are the Do's & Donts on Hi Fi components
My preference (with all solid state gear that is not class A and therefore not hot during idle) is to leave it all on all of the time, with the volume at minimum and an unused input selected. It is only turned off if I'm away for a few days or if t...
Best Budget Integrated Hands down
I'd add the Densen B-100 to that list. Unfortunately I think there's only one shop in New York that carries them in the US.
CDP with 2 sets of outputs?
It sounds to me like it might be an expensive player, to have two sets of outputs (and you'd really need two independant output stages, otherwise all you're really doing is using a splitter on a single output stage, which halves the input impedanc...
CDP with 2 sets of outputs?
You'd want volume control applied to both sets of outputs I assume to drive power amps ?
