USB Audio Output Recommendations? Questions...
We use (and sell) the waveterminal U24 for our acoustical test kits. I use one at my desk and have it connected to a pair of Stax headphones. It's really excellent sound--but it is a very "matter of fact" kind of sound. I wish I had the tube amp f...
LP collection management...what do you guys do?
I wrote my own in Microsoft Access. I primarily collect Jazz. If I were doing Classical mostly I would do it differently because I would want to know composer, conductor, symphony/orchestra, soloists, etc. Classical is much more difficult to keep ...
ipod/itunes problems
If Dave Wilson can demonstrate his speakers with the ipod as the source component, then I think we have to let ipod in here. If you didn't know of this, he did it at an HE show a while back. He had a Krell 25i CD player as a "dummy" and showed at ...
speakers in a bad room
I think Sogood's suggestion is the best place to start. You are still going to have some boom. You will either need to build a high Q resonator or possibly correct for the remaining boom electrically with something like our PARC. Even if you do in...
Best Universal Remote?
I'll second remotecentral.com. It's could be renamed: remotecontrolgon.com. It's more forum oriented than this site--but very informative. The one that has been in the lead for a while is the Phillips Pronto Pro. However, there's a new kid on the ...
Rives PARC or Tact 2.0 AA for room correction?
Obviously--I'ld be watching this thread and now need to comment, particularly on time delay. My graduate work is in digital signal processing and using FFT filters in the digital domain with narrow band parametrics leaves digital artifacts--there'...
DACs: Airport Express vs waveterminal vs mini-dac
We sell the waveterminal. It's used with our professional test kits. I use the waveterminal on my PC. It's very good and I've had others buy it and exclaim it's the most fantastic thing ever. I don't know about it being that fantastic, but there i...
Room treatments without $$$
Go to the resource section on our site. It has lots of DIY links for acoustical treatment devices. It also has links to many articles on the web and books that may help you as well. The most important aspect is getting the size right--size matters...
Whole house volume controls?
Niles are very good, simple, reasonable price, and keep the signal good. That's not to say great--this is not an audiophile volume control, but for whole house, good quality background music where you don't want excessive noise from a cheap volume...
Most expencive stereo ever
We did design a room with the Kharma speakers mentioned above. It was a 5.1 system with 2 Kharma subs. It hasn't been completed yet. It is in Egypt. I don't recall the amplification used, but I do remember it was appropriate for the speakers.
Equalizers anyone?
Sean:That's sort of true. When you have interacting modes it's a reduction in overall energy. While you do correct for one position (or you can actually do an averaging, but I typically don't recommend this method) it's the overall energy reductio...
Equalizers anyone?
Obviously I'm biased, but I am going to give you my impression, since I've probably heard the PARC in more rooms than anyone else. We've used it full range with everything from very revealing Martin Logans to Genesis 200s to Kharmas to Von Schweik...
VR-4jr or Gallo Nucleus Reference 3
Wow--I just got back to this thread. Sorry I missed it for a few days. Anyway, I will answer a few questions. I did not physically measure the hotel room, but I would guess it was about 15 x 17 x 8. I had test equipment to take acoustical measurem...
VR-4jr or Gallo Nucleus Reference 3
I've heard the VR-4jr. They are truly giant killers. I'm usually one to nit pick what a speaker does right and wrong--including my own reference speakers which are far more expensive. However, the VR-4jr have about the perfect balance. They don't ...
anyone heard the Xhifi system?
Yes. It sounds pretty good. I've been thinking about getting one myself. It definitely gets my vote on good looks.
