Need to tame bass
Do not use cables as an eq device. I agree, measure the response. Speaker position and listening position can help quite a lot. Get it as flat as you can and then you can determine if the Q is low and the amplitude is not too bad, you can use capa...
Sri Lanka and the Tsunami
I've just returned from CES. I want to thank all of you that have thus far sent in water purification tablets and other means for purifying water. I am shipping all out on Friday, so if anyone else is shipping to us please do so quickly.I will hav...
Sri Lanka and the Tsunami
I have gotten nothing from them either. Oh well, it was worth a try.
Sri Lanka and the Tsunami
Rel: Thank you. I've sent that information on to those in Sri Lanka. I'm sure the water purification companies don't want anyone to find out about that:)Loonytunz: Thanks again. I have not heard anything from them since contacting them.
Sri Lanka and the Tsunami
Loonytunz: Good info. I've contacted them by e-mail and suggested a program. I think together we can multiply our efforts, but it may take time. In the short term I would still like to do what we can do.So, just go to a local camping store and buy...
Ultimate list of guides on how to get good sound.
We think it's to deal with room acoustics--but that's our own occupational hazard (yes, we probably are a bit biased towards room acoustics). That being said, we do really believe that you can spend relatively few dollars on acoustics that can go ...
Media Room Construction
As the Mad Milkman stated, probably the best way to start is to send in the application. Once you do that we will call you and discuss some of the needs more specifically. In some cases, depending on field conditions we have to go the site for an ...
Stereophile test CD2 In/Out of Phase test:question
Absolute phase is not recogonized by everyone. I used to not be very sensitive to it, and would still say that I'm less sensitive to it than some of my colleges. I do find that it's pretty apparant with solo upright bass. Piano works well too--but...
Frequency Charts
Onhwy is right. It's easy if you look at the piano. Each octave doubles the frequency. Middle C is 260 Hz. One octave up is 520, the next octave is 1040. So if you were to mark all the 'C's on the piano on a log scale they would be evenly spaced.
THE Show - worth going?
The big difference is that CES and THE Show are for dealers and manufacturers and distributors to do business. It is not a consumer show and while many consumers go, don't expect people to spend much time with you unless they are slow. The manufac...
Media Room Construction
I'll answer part of that for Mike--not the cost of the room. He'll have to do that, but with regard to our design fees, our level 3 generally is around $8-10k for a moderate sized room. This includes the time for 2 site visits, but does not includ...
"The Law of Diminishing Returns"???
It's an exponential curve. I've always felt that--and it's true in most things. Everything from houses to cars. You can get a really good performance car reasonable--the Subaru WXsi (think that's the right model number). It's a 5 second car. You c...
Speaker toe-in & stereo imaging
If you go to our resource page there's a link to an article we wrote on speaker placement titled "Loudspeaker Placement Guide". One of the issues is toe in. It agrees with Newbee and Sean, just gives you another method of accomplishing the goal.Ri...
acoustic placement/small bright room
Small rooms require much more damping than larger rooms. You actually can't have as long a reverberation time in small room as in large room without this ill effect you've experienced. This is because for the same reverberation time there are many...
Large sweetspot
Klipshorns. If they can't fit then Belle Klipsch. You can't get much more efficient (104 db per watt) and it can fill the area without any problem--even with a 3 watt SET amp.
