15" vs 18" subwoofer - which to buy?
I'm going to recommend something entirely different. Get 2 lesser subs rather than one big one. You can place them in such a way to cancel out certain room modes and get a much more even response throughout the listening room. I also think those w...
Sound Insulation- how much can it help?
Well, we can help you with the in room acoustics, and they do differ depending on volume. We've done quite a few jobs in Asia, mostly in Singapore. I don't think we've done one in China yet. I like incorporating the acoustics into Asian designs. W...
Is it worth purchasing the VPI 16.5?
That would be my advice as well. Buy it--quickly.
Carbon Fiber Brushes
Which one do you have? I have the Hunt brush and have used it for about 3 years and it's still in very good shape. I do clean my records with a wet/vacuum cleaning system so the carbon brush is generally just taking very light dust particles off t...
Acoustic ceiling paint???
There are many ways to deal with the ceiling acoustically that are aesthetically pleasing, but acoustic paint is not one of those. Things such as diffusion hidden by fabric covering, to "floating" clouds, to coffering can work very well. But your ...
Are the Monolith III better than Requests?
That depends quite a lot on the room, but given that they are 30 inches wide and you would ideally like 6 to 7 feet between them--well you're getting pretty close. You will need to treat the side walls. Rear wall placement, depends on many things,...
Jacintha, anyone???
I would lean towards Autumn Leaves as well, but probably because I have more of the material from Here's to Ben recorded by other artists. Autumn Leaves is a bit more unique in it's delivery as well. I do have all her albums--and they are all great.
Are the Monolith III better than Requests?
I agree with Audiokinesis. My reference system is based on a modified Monolith II speaker. There's nothing like the big panel. You just barely have the width for them, but plenty of volume.
Spikes and added weight for subwoofer performance?
Newbee: It doesn't distort the sound wave, not in any meaningful way anyway. It's really a matter of efficiency. Imagine a cannon shooting a cannonball. If you can make the cannon really firm (say couple it to the ground) rather than have a lot of...
Spikes and added weight for subwoofer performance?
A forward firing sub moves horizontally. For every action there's an equal and opposit reaction. Thus the cabinet is moving too, but much less because it's mass is high compared to the subwoofer cone. The higher the cabinet mass, the less movement...

Is it worth purchasing the VPI 16.5?
I have owned a VPI 16.5 for probably 10 years now. I've replaced the vacuum tube several times. I remember debating when I bought it--do I really need something to clean my records like this? Well, I wouldn't be without it now. I don't see many us...
Large Room-Treatments and WAF-HELP??
This is what our company does. Room acoustics don't have to look like anything--or they can look like a great architectural addition--such as a coffered ceiling. We actually have spouses that have called us to thank us for how great we made a room...
Sound Insulation- how much can it help?
Well, you have the answer. Someone asked our company what we couldn't do one time. I said "we haven't figured out how to break the laws of physicis." Herman has already pointed out--that's what you're up against. We're about to publish a paper on ...
RECIEVER recommendations
Consider splitting into a good integrated and something like a Magnum Dynalab FT-11 tuner. This is not an expensive tuner--I see them used here pretty regularly for a few hundered. Most receivers in that range will have a marginal tuner and for lo...
