Help!!! Need advice on Refurbishing my two NAD 2600's and a NAD 1700 Pre amp Should you find any bi-polar electrolytics in the signal path, Pass recommends Elna silk electrolytics if you can find them. If you can't, I recommend Mundorf bipolars.
Electrostatic pros and cons. Cone woofers and electrostatics can work together wonderfully. The issue is the room, EQ and levels. Fix that and you can have a mind-blowing ESL experience. :) Also, fixing that is sometimes very hard! :)
Electrostatic pros and cons. I thought I was responding to critiques of the measured response of some electrostats. I am not faulting you, @audiokinesis I just like to be explicit about my own angles. Just because I may feel ESL's are overall not that great measuring doesn'...
The Science of Cables I believe some cables show a difference. I’ve had blind (but not double blind) tests between Wireworld and Mogami. My guests were able to hear the difference I did but we completely disagreed as to which was better. Value of cable difference to me...
Electrostatic pros and cons. I think we are debating technology and not the sound. I think listeners should try out an ESL / Amp combination and see if the like them for the money. While you do have to carefully match the woofer's level to the panel, the issues I'm talking ab...
Electrostatic pros and cons. From measurements I've seen int he past, several ESL's I've seen just don't measure well in the frequency or distortion domains. That may not be true for every ESL though, that's a broad generalization based on what I've seen. There were still ple...
Electrostatic pros and cons. @audiokinesis Very interesting indeed! :) Always happy to have more information, even if it doesn't agree with what I've seen in the past. Best,E
The Science of Cables And speaking of nonsense, when you gonna be calling NASA ? I'll leave that up to people who have something to sell. If past experience shows anything, NASA has a very open mind right until claims become unproveable.
Electrostatic pros and cons. The main pro I would say is the very low distortion with their air-damped diaphragm. Never seen an electrostatic measure well in terms of distortion, if we use the same term used in electronics. ESL's' often _measure_ poorly but sound very good. ...
The Science of Cables @taras22 Produce an explanatory model and exemplar cables based on any of what you have written and then you'll have something to write about.
Replace Caps? Depends. Power supply caps tend to be pretty limited. Signal caps might, especially input/output coupling caps. Best,E
Help!!! Need advice on Refurbishing my two NAD 2600's and a NAD 1700 Pre amp I would strongly suggest you stick to the electrolytic caps, given the age, that's what you are going to want to update and you can't go wrong there. Nichicon's for the big caps, and Panasonic FM's if you can for the 10-100uF caps you are going to...
The Science of Cables What @taras22 has posted reminds me of the dark energy and cold fusion "white papers" I have seen, which of course always turn out to be nonsense. A survey of a lot of different areas of physics, devoid of any practical ability to use them. That i...
The Science of Cables There’s nothing I’ve ever heard in a cable that could not be explained by simple AC circuit analysis, and assuming amplifiers had more output impedance than claimed. Nothing. Best,E
Replace Caps? Generally, most who replace old power supply caps report either nothing, or lower noise and more powerful bass. |
