Help: low Maintenance Tube Amp short list.
Note the CJ Premier 11A listed on Audiogon today. It's in your price range, is very reliable, easy to bias, and has the power you're looking for. (No, it's not mine.)
Best drink while listening to your rig?
Grey Goose vodka, neat. Keep it in the freezer.
Under Appreciated Jazz Piano Players
Hey Ghasley ... Russ Freeman played a lot of piano with Chet Baker and others in the 50s and 60s. And Bill Evans plays tenor sax. Bill Evans also PLAYED piano, to put it mildly.
Did anybody see Miles Davis on Bravo?
Would it have killed them to play more than 10 seconds of his music at a time? Clearly a lot of work went into the program, but in the end I was more frustrated than satisfied.

Help Reform another Clueless Yuppie
Definitely consider the Gallos. The new Due' model is pretty amazing (have you heard it?) and the Micros and their sub sound much better than they have a right to. All of them do a disappearing act sonically, and I personally think they're very at...
VPI SDS or Powerplant for speed control?
I went from a PLC to a PS300 and liked what I heard. Then I read that the SDS outperforms the PS300 and picked up a cheap SDS to find out. It's true. I like the PS300 for front end components (preamp, CDP, phono stage, etc.), but there's no compar...
Who offers full remote functions in a tube pre
Conrad Johnson. All functions except remote on/off.
I finally learned why powercords make a difference
Not to start World War III, Tekunda, but shouldn't you mention somewhere that you are the U.S. distributor for HMS cables?
Audible Illusions Modulus 3A vs. CJ Premier 14 ?
I.ve had the CJ 14 since l996, like it a lot, not just for the excellent sound quality but for the convenience (a terrific remote) and flexibility (multiple inuts and outputs). Also important with any tube gear is the service you can expect from t...
Have you found cable Nirvana? Tell me about it.
I agree with Tpsonic. If the Omega Mikros are too expensive for you, start with the Mapleshades (same designers). They all have certain traits in common: extraordinary clarity (without being "etched" or "analytical") and so involving I can listen ...
"must have" accessories for TT and LP?
I agree too, except for the clamp. Depends on the turntable. Many will do better with a Ringmat than a clamp (including some that CAME with a clamp). Good luck and have fun.
Kenwood KD-500
Yeah, the Black Widow was the coolest, especiallty on the Kenwood. By the way, Shasta, if you had the stock JVC arm, you had the Kenwood KD550. The 500 was armless (ah, the memory isn't totally gone. Yet).
Who Does the Best Mods on CD Players
I was very happy with the mods performed by Musical Concepts on my Pioneer DVD/CD player. I highly recommend their work.
Thoughts on the new Mapleshade
The Isoblocks are twice as tall as the ones Rcreations sells. I know because I have both. On the other hand the Rcreations blocks are dimensionally a little bigger (length/width). Nobody's geting rich selling them.
