Is CJ prem 14 a prem 10 with a remote??
I have a Premier l4 and am somewhat familiar with the l0. My understanding is that they are much different. The l4 uses four 6GK5 tubes. I'm not sure what the tube complement is for the l0. Enjoy your new preamp. I'm sure it sounds fine.
Is CJ DV-2b one of the best cd player?
I have owned CJ amps and preamps for years and been very happy with them. The digital products are another story. I had the transport and tubed DAC for 3 years and found them, despite their high price (approx. $3600) laid back, uninvolving, not ve...
Whats a good high quality 78 speed table????
Check Ebay. Just saw a Rega 78rpm player there. Good Luck, Dave
What is the worst recorded CD you have?
Artie Shaw Grammercy Five on Bluebirtd. Wonderful music, awful tinny sound. To amaze the "CDs are perfect" crowd, I do an A/B comparison between this CD and a couple of 78s I have of the same music. The 78s sound awesome in comparison.
Record mats, VTA, clamps and my ears
No, the VPI TNT is a very heavy TT (the platter alone must weigh 10 lbs) and is not "supposed " to benefit from a Ringmat. That's why I was so surprised.
Record mats, VTA, clamps and my ears
Sean, I would have agreed with you totally -- and did for a long time. Then a friend convinced me to actually try a Ringmat. Back and forth, clamps to Ringmat (adjusting VTA with my JMW arm) and it ultimately became all too obvious. The Ringmat ru...
Record mats, VTA, clamps and my ears
Just to confuse you further, and to disagree totally with Sean, I have found the Ringmat far superior to three clamps I tried, including the carbon fiber Black Diamond Racing clamp. This is with a VPI TNT which has ALWAYS been clamped until I trie...
Have You Ever Put Your Golden Ears to the Test??
For me, listening hard to tell differences creates its own problems. My tinnitus starts raging, and I find that the harder I listen, the less my ears can discern. Over a long term, I can (I think) tell the difference between component A and compon...
Affordable cables
If you want to take a REAL step up and can spring $120 for 1 meter ICs, try Mapleshade's new Clearview Ultrathins. Caveat: they're fragile and don't take kindly to children and rambunctious pets. But they're extraordinarily good for the money.
Replacing jumper bars
I was going to recommend the Mapleshade jumpers when I noticed that two others had beat me to it.
Washington DC
Good idea. I'm in Potomac. Think you'd enjoy hearing my Gallo Ultimates in a tube-based system wired with Omega Mikro and Mapleshade. Cheers, Dave
Biwiring: can you really hear the difference?
Responding to Esoxhntr, I was ready to biwire with the Mapleshades at the time I ordered them. Pierre Sprey recommended against it, said they would sound better single-wired. Who am I to argue with the guy who makes and sells them?
Biwiring: can you really hear the difference?
Reporting for the minority (apparently). I went from biwired Kimber 8TCs (feeding ProAc Response 3s from CJ Premier l2s) to single-wired Mapleshade Double Golden Helix and Mapleshade jumpers. Amazing improvement. Quite a bit cheaper, too.
PS Audio 300 vs Tice powerblock II
I had a Tice Powerblock 3 and bought the PS Audio 300. One of the best decisions I ever made. However, I'm still using the Tice for my five (don't ask) power amps and find that they sound better thru the Tice than into the wall (dedicated 20 amp c...
A Great Vintage Integrated?
A Scott 299 tubed integrated will provide astonishingly musical performance in this price range. Used of course. Don't be fooled by its modest wattage. And appearance-wise, it's totally cool. Good luck, Dave
