Do tube dampers really work?
I'm using Mapleshade tube anchors on both my SuperIT phono stage and my CJ Premier 14 line stage. They're a pain in the neck to install but they REALLY improved the sound of my system.
ET 2 Owners - feedback please
I had two of these (on separate occasions). The first worked flawlessly, using the stock pump and no surge tank. The second was a constant pain -- the arm hung up near the end of records, and other problems I can't remember but that destroyed the ...
Scratched discs - what do to?
I second the Mapleshade Mikro-Smooth as a general polish/enhancer. Also like Vivid and have been experimenting with Auric Illuminator as well. For those really badly scuffed/scratched CDs, though, I've had as much luck with toothpaste (not gel) as...
PS Audio power plants
My P300 was one of the best buys I ever made. Highly recommended.
Ive got me the Digital Nasties
Hifirush, hope you're not using the Blu-Tack anywhere near heat. Mine turned to blue goo, still trying to get rid of it.
Ive got me the Digital Nasties
Definitely wires, then PS Audio power plant, then cones/maple shelf/IsoBlocks under the CD player, then CD treatments like Mapleshade Mikro-Smooth and Walker Vivid. Pretty much in that order. Good luck.
Can I get "Great" used speakers for $1800??
Forgot to mention two things about the Von Schweikerts. They're about half the price ($975) you budgeted (retail is $2000+). And they play music on everything from 8-watt SETs to giant Sunfires - my friend has both.
Scott Integrated tube amps?...worth it sonically?
I've heard a couple of Scott 299s lately and been VERY impressed by their beautiful sound. Only downside is that the screw-type speaker connections are very closely spaced and so are the RCA jacks. But they do make music.

I just saw a pair of Van Schweikert VR-3s offered on Audiogon. This is a great speaker for the money.
An arm to live with for years to come
I'd go with the JMW 10 or 10.5 but with the caveat that they don't handle edge warps with much grace, at least with the Grados (I have a Reference too, the original version). Then I'd ditch the clamp in favor of a Ringmat. This ridiculous-looking t...
Tube dampers?
The Mapleshade Tube Anchors I used on the 12AX7s in my phono stage made it sound so good that I just installed four more (had to be custom-designed) on the 6GK5s in my Conrad Johnson Premier l4. I really like what they do and have had no overheati...
best amp for Pro Ac Response 2
The Response 2 loves tubes, including single-ended triodes. The pair I owned is now owned by a close friend who drives them with 6-watt SETs and they sound glorious. These are great speakers.
The truth about interconnects - can you handle it?
I'm in Potomac, MD with an SET-based system wired via Omega Mikro and Mapleshade cables. Feel free to email me. I believe cable differences are quite profound but will usually not make themselves known in quick A/B tests.
PS audio P600 in multiwave operation
With respect to the SDS, it has its own regenerator and shouldn't be plugged into anything but the wall. I have my tube phono stage plugged into a P300, but it tends to squawk (power supply transformer noise) with most multiwave settings. Frankly,...
The truth about interconnects - can you handle it?
Try listening to (and with) your ears rather than to your friends, engineers or not. I have a physicist friend who was fully convinced that my weird wires (Omega Mikro, Mapleshade) didn't make sense. He still feels that way but agrees that they do...
