What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE???
Harvey Rosenberg's New York Audio Labs (NYAL). I still use the NYAL Moscode "Super-IT" phono stage and it's beat a number of higher-priced pretenders. Love him or hate him, Harvey was one of a kind.
Vinyl LPs To CD
I don't understand why you need an A/D converter. I've been making fantastic CDs (if I do say so myself) from LPs via a TASCAM CDRW700. This is a "pro" machine that uses cheap computer discs and is very easy to use. For best quality, go direct fro...
Terminations
I used to use spades, now (thanks to Pierre Sprey of Mapleshade) have gone strictly to bare wire. It's more direct, and I've experienced no oxidation problems at all. YMMV, of course. I also used to bi-wire, BTW, now find that single-wiring, using...
PsAudio 300?
I've had mine for almost a year. Wouldn't be without it.
Sonus Faber Amati, who knows it?
I heard them not long after they got rave reviews from Michael Fremer and Martin Colloms. The dealer's electronics -- top Mark Levinson and Meridian units -- were unfamiliar to me, as was the cabling. I found them pretty boring and quite uninvolvi...
Digitizing LPs: General advice wanted
I've recorded at least l00 LPs to CD. It's both easier and harder than you think. I'd forget the 24/96 requirement though. And I'd go with a professional CD recorder like my TASCAM CDRW700 rather than one of the "consumer" units that restrict your...
Mapleshade CD Favorites
I have about 25 of them and (obviously) like them a lot. A cross-section of favorites:Chris Anderson - Love Locked outHarold Ashby - Just for YouKing/Bluiett Trio - Makin' WhoopeeGerard D'Angelo Trio - Not What My Hands Have DoneWalter Davis, Jr. ...
Cable confusion?
Bereft of a technical background, I had to listen to, first, the experts, and ultimately, my ears. The experts said use heavy wire, so I wound up with biwired Kimber 8TC between my CJ Premier l2s and ProAc Response 3s. Then I tried superthin Maple...

Which works/sounds best, PS audio 300 or PwrCo 400
Something you might consider. I had everything plugged into a Tice Power Block 3 (my CJ Premier l2s sound substantially better into the Tice than into the wall). Then I got a PS Audio 300 for front end gear, which substantially improved on the Tic...
Whats the deal with CD players?
I'm jumping in late, but I wonder how many of the posters have heard one of the more recent DVD players (mine was a modded Pioneer DV-4l4, only recently replaced by a Sony XA777ES) playing CDs. My DV4l4, despite the raised eyebrows of some audiobu...
CD Recorder
The Tascam CDRW-700 was my choice after a "training wheels" Pioneer. At $450 from Oade Bros., this single-disc unit does everything. Uses cheap computer CDRs and CD-RWs, has a "direct digital" link to avoid sample rate converters, has a one-day ti...
Review: 2 new releases from Mapleshade
I agree that the D'Angelo CD is a winner (sorry, I'm not into bluegrass). Two other recent Mapleshade discs worth checking out are Consuella Lee's "Piano Voices" and Bob Kindred's "Gentle Giant of the Tenor Sax." The latter is a really in-your-fac...
Dupont Corian for Isolation
Mapleshade footers (IsoBlocks) are sandwiches of rubber and cork, not maple.
Are You Happy?
I've always spent more on my vinyl setup than on digital (including SACD) but have to admit that digital is sounding pretty good these days. I don't find it "soulless" or bright and glaring but maybe my tube amp and preamp are compensating. To me,...
