How long should vinyl last? I have LPs with hundreds of plays that sound brand new. Ohers begin to display clicks and pops much sooner, no matter how well they are cared for. The answer: it depends.
Clamp for Rega Planar 2? Suggest you try a Ringmat instead of the mat (I assume) you're using now. It looks ridiculous, but it works.
CD Treatments-Which ones do you like? Walker Vivid, Mapleshade Mikro-Smooth, and Auric Illuminator all seem to work. I like them in that order. Trouble is, once you use them, the "before" comparison is gone, unless you have two discs of the same music.
Power Cords Snake Oil ?? I was pretty much a power cord agnostic until I had the opportunity to change five of them (to monoblock power amps, VPI SDS, PS Audio P300, Sony XA777ES) at once. Wow. Nothing subtle about the improvement. "Course I have no idea which cords did w...
Do I need a machine to clean ? To answer your question, the Record Doctor unit is just fine and, as these things go, a real bargain. Go for it!
What Amp for ProAc Response 3's? Good luck with the new amp. I see there's a pair of Response 3s posted today (12/11/03) on Audiogon for $2K. Hope they find a worthy home.
Analog a dying breed Just received the new Music Direct catalog. Page after page of new turntables, arms and cartridges, FAR more than new digital hardware. Check out Audio Asylum's Vinyl Asylum, probably the busiest forum on AA. For a soon-to-be corpse, this one is p...
What cable caused you to become a cable "junkie" ? Mapleshade. I thought the whole subject was sorta silly, tho I had Kimber KCAGs and AQ Diamond and Lapis cables just to be sure I wasn't missing anything. The first Mapleshades I tried were such a revelation (and so relatively inexpensive that I s...
PS Audio P300?? Sure, if you need a space heater.
CDT tweeters on Gallo Nucleus Solos I would suspect the caps too. Is the problem in one speaker or both? These are fabulous tweeters (the same ones used on my Gallo Ultimates) and I'ver never heard or read of a problem like this. Good Luck.
Regarding 78's Plato, I'm using a 78 stylus in my (formerly) stereo Grado body, so I don't know the answer to your question. You might try strapping the pins on your cart (one strap connecting the hot pins, one on the ground pins) and see what you think. Good luck.
Regarding 78's Ah, yes, keep 78s away from any cleaning solutions that contain alcohol. They'll melt the shellac, I understand. One other thing: you need a tonearm and cartridge that will effectively track warped records, since many or most 78s are not real flat.
Regarding 78's I'm back into 78s big time, along with R-R tapes (haven't played an SACD in a while). I wouldn't sweat the equalization issue. Here's my "dedicated 78 rpm system": Stanton and Grado 78 carts on a Dual 608 TT into the phono preamp in an old Sansui ...
What are the most under-appreciated products? Speakers: Gallo UltimatesWires: Omega MikroPhono stage: NYAL SuperITTweak for tubeophiles: Mapleshade tube anchors
Anthony Gallo Acoustics Due vs Totem DreamCatcher I don't know the Totem, but the Gallo Due' is an amazing speaker for its size. Even better, if not cosmetically, if you remove the metal shield and the "grill cloth." You'll need a sub, though. |
