VPI PLC ground/hum problem--HELP
These PLCs weren't the most reliable units in the world. VPI couldn't fix mine (bought used) and sent a brand new one - great customer service. I'd give Mike at VPI a call (Tues. thru Fri.). Better yet, I'd pick up an SDS. It's better in every way...
What Speakers to use with my cj prmier 11a
I had a Premier 14/12 combination (since replaced the 12s with SET mnoblocks) with Proac Response 3s. I think you'd like the Proacs a lot.
Stylast compatibility ZYX cartridges
I, too, have used Stylast and other liquid cleaners for many years (at least 25) without a problem. Every time I read one of these warnings I stop for a while, but always return. My current cart (Grado Reference) has had at least 4 years of heavy ...
Differences in CD players? Am I crazy?
I had the opposite experience. Was using a two-year-old $3600 transport/DAC combination and, after reading about a potentiial 'giant killer' in The Absolute Sound, I inserted a $300 Pioneer DV-414 CD/DVD player (which we already owned) in place of...
P300 Users: where do you place the unit?
Mine is sitting on two concrete pavers about 2" thick, on the floor beneath the equipment rack. Got the pavers at Home Depot.
One hit manufacturer
Neat story. That's Enid Lumley BTW, not Edith.
Omega Mikro powercord users help:
I was surprised that I could tell a difference, but it certainly wasn't night and day, and BOTH the red and blue PCs sounded so good that I would have been happy with either.
When do records damage a stylus
I used to worry a lot bout this and winced every time one of those loud pops occurred. But as far as I know I've never damaged a stylus playing vinyl. On the other hand, I've never used a cartridge for much more than five years, so I guess it's po...
People who are Irrationally Afraid of tube amps
Since I've had a tube line stage, tube phono stage, SET monoblocks, and tube tuner for years, all I can say about the the tubophobes is, "it's their loss." I admit I had a tube DAC that was frequently in the shop, but its problems had nothing to d...
Magnepan 1.6 and Moscode 600s
For the straight scoop, I suggest you contact George Kaye (George Kaye Audio Lab)., He designed the Moscode, or was one of the designers, and is a corporate sponsor at Audio Asylum.
Really, Really old lp's
Out of curiosity, I just checked Ebay to see what 78s are selling for. Amazing, and I must revise my earlier comment to reflect this "reality." Take a look -- It might well be worth trying to sell yours there, if you're prepared to pack them well ...
Worst remote nomination...
Sure makes me appreciate the Conrad Johnson remote that came with my Premier 14 line stage and is standard (I think) with the other CJ Premier preamps all the way up to the ART. Just about perfect, IMO.
Really, Really old lp's
I wouldn't get my hopes up, about their value. I'm still playing 78s and buying them (mostly jazz) but have never paid more than a buck and they mostly go for 25-50 cents or less. I clean mine on a Nitty Gritty with VPI fluid and they sound great ...
I'm thinking of trading SP 11 in for 1 w/remote...
I'll second the CJ Premier 14, but note that it a line stage only.
Harry Weisfeld Was Right All Along
Think about it. If there ever was a guy committed to analog and finding the best ways of extracting music from your vinyl, it's Harry Weisfeld. It would have been much easier for him to employ the conventional antiskating devices. Probably would h...
