When did you last update your Wifi firmware?

Just FYI, A'goners, that routers often need patches to remain secure over their lifetime and old routers may no longer even be supported and therefore, there would be no new patches for new security holes.

If you've never checked your router's firmware for updates now may be a good time.   In my case I have 2 network devices and both have needed security patches to keep them safe.  This is in addition to making sure your router is not accessible from the outside world.

I have 4 Asus XT8 mesh routers, set to auto-update both firmware and security patches.  Nothing was current until I manually updated them 2 days ago in response to an article on TheHackerNews.com.  Disappointed.  Routers bought in '21, last update late '23.

@curiousjim  Not having an update isn't necessarily a bad thing.  They usually come out after a security vulnerability has been discovered, so with luck, a router gets more secure over time.  Not sure how that affects any "apps" running on them however.

It interesting you mention updates.  My router’s app updates every few weeks, but the actual router updates maybe twice a year.

@bipod72 Thanks for using the same name and password in your Fidelity account.  I needed extra funds ... 😂

I just changed my password from 12345678 to password123 and it appears to work. 😉

I replaced my first generation Netgear Orbi setup several months ago with an ASUS mesh system because I could no longer get firmware updates on the Orbi.  I need to check to see if auto updates are happening on the ASUS system.  Thanks for jogging my memory.

Normally you set it to auto-update. However, sometimes manufacturer stops servicing old models. For added security get a Firewalla if you are concerned.
