Why do tube amps often subjectively sound more powerful than SS ? @inna - how do you calibrate "same volume"? Literally 1% of sensitivity difference makes it well audible. And yes, tube distortions add to the sound.
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype Diminishing returns. Is Rolls Royce better than BMW? Only for you to know and decide.

Vinyl sounds better (shots fired) Remember that vinyl often simply mastered better. Not apples to apples. Correct comparison is to take LP, record it in 96/24 in pro equipment like TASCAM, then play back both through high quality DAC.
Any opinions on NAD quality? Love my T778 receiver.
How long should high quality speakers last? Dunno my Tannoy D700 perform perfectly fine since 1998
Why do tube amps often subjectively sound more powerful than SS ? Perhaps it is simply more sensitive at input voltage and just sounds louder?
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days? @markwd - why do you think I care about your opinion?
Spotify channel list non-existent Spotify does not have "channels". It is a library of recordings. You want Pink Floyd, you go to their page, see all albums, click what you want to play. Spotify does can build ’mix’ from your tastes, but it does not have channels like XM. I think ...

Go chat there. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0263224123009363 The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is a cornerstone o...
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days? @markwd - I owe you NOTHING dear. You go to ASR and discuss "audible" with your buddies and test new awesome $100 DACs.
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days? @chervokas - to be entirely correct, it is just Fourier Transform (FT). FFT is a Fast Fourier Transform which is an algorithm (one of many) that implements FT in discrete form for a typical computer chip. FFT is only approximation, it is NEVER pre...
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days? @markwd - yeah, I am familiar with the guy. He is just hobbyist, some former Microsoft guy that made money on stock options and thinks he knows everything. Typical corporate VP buffoon. Multitone is OK, but still not enough.
Streamer, no DAC please? You may want to try inexpensive streamers available on Amazon first, see if you like it. Pick one with coax out. There are plenty. I did not like streamer experience, all these custom apps, small iPhone or iPad screens, $$$ for Roon. I just feed ...
Which is best, using balanced or non-balanced connection? Balanced rejects noise that why all professional audio gear is balanced. So doesn't matter on short cables, but anything longer than 6ft should be balanced ideally. I run 12 ft cables, all XLR. |
