Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

bd24,
I believe it was slaw who introduced Mary G. to me. She is a very compelling artist.

uberwaltz,
I agree with you on the Counting Crows, August and Everything After. I have it on CD only, but it is a fantastic recording. Solid through and through.

I'm a big B. Joel fan as well. Caught him and Elton John together on tour in Louisville some years back. I love Elton's music very much but Billy stole the show!

This morning, Ryan Adams S/T

Even though I have this album on CD, 45rpm vinyl and 24/192 MQA how could I not buy it for $2 on tape.

August and Everything ... Counting Crows.

One of the seminal albums of the 90,s imho.
Saved this till last as someone said the sq on this tape was one of the best ever heard. Its definitely up there.

Songs from the Big Chair ... Tears For Fears.

Cassette
@nutty---I love Mary’s Mercy Now album, and her as an artist. I discovered her as a result of the album being produced by Gurf Morlix, Lucinda Williams’ guitarist, band leader, and producer up to and including her career-making Car Wheels On A Gravel Road album.
Ghosthouse
I will be checking Joan out, thank you.

A trip to the LRS today netted some new tapes.

First up

Revenge ... Eurythmics.

Anne Lennox sure has some range and power!
Martin L. Gore, Counterfeit e.p. (excellent)
Luka Bloom, Riverside  (nice to revisit)
Uberw. - Do you know Joan Osborne? Check out her album "Relish" if you’ve not heard it. Could be another female singer for your list.  Writing and production help from one or more of The Hooters, as I recall.

Ghosthouse.

I am pretty much a sucker for most female vocal fronted rock bands though.
Think

Concrete Blonde, Hole, Garbage, Heart, Pretty Reckless, The Pretenders, The Euryhmics, Evanescense, Lacuna Coil etc etc.

And truckloads more.....
Never owned any Heart...heard plenty of ’em on the radio back in the day. Always impressed by the vocals, like Uberwaltz says. But only knew them through those FM hits and those probably don’t do justice to the depth of their song-writing skills. Mistral that Nutty just turned me on to being a case in point, I think.

Anyway, right now, Elton John’s Honky Chateau (immediately after listening to Tumbleweed Connection).
Not a huge EJ fan by any means but do like a lot of his early stuff. Well written, great arrangements, excellent musicians. Sonics on this "The Classic Years" edition CD are good too.  Favorites: Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Hercules (A cat named Hercules).
Excellent albums Nutty.
I always used Barracuda as a great test track with that opening bass.

I was definitely smitten by Ann,s vocals at the time....lol.

They went after the hits which admittedly made they tons of cash but those two albums are their high points imho.
Two I Havn't played in a while. Both solid.
Heart, Dog & Butterfly
"Mistrial Wind" is excellent...

Heart, Little Queen

@jafant  definitely happy, listening.

@schubert
switched to music closer to yours: Goldmark: Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor (Op. 28) - Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen, Itzhak Perlman. Andre Previn / Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Fresh from Germany.

Breath of Life ... Magnum.

Original Steamhammer German pressing.

Its a vinyl kind of night.

Strange Little Birds .... Garbage.

Brand new 180GM double record set.
Just added Roon/Tidal in the past month and running around in Tidal has been a blast!
Right now listening to the Stevie Winwood catalogue including the old stuff plus his newer live Madison Square Garden album with Eric Clapton and his 2017 solo live album.
Diana Krall, The Girl in the Other Room and some Zeppelin. I'm going to end my evening with some Take Five.

Earlier, CAB (1) and CAB 4.

Now, The War on Drugs, "Lost in the Dream".  Kinda sounds like early Bob Dylan’s voice time-warped into a post-rock tomorrow.
Rachmaninoff, Symphonic Dances, performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Donald Johanos, as recorded by Vox in 1967 with a two microphone set up.

In 1970 every HiFi shop in the country had a copy of the LP to use for demos. It is available on CD if you don't have the LP or don't want to pay collectors prices for the vinyl.  It is one of the best orchestral recordings ever made.
