Started early, going to see if I can get through the whole thing:

Elton John-Jump Up Side 2 The Judds-Greatest Hits Side B Collins-Cray-Copeland-Showdown Side A The Call-Into The Woods-Side 2 SQ Audiophile Billy Squier-Emotions In Motion Side 1 SQ Audiophile Chapter 8-Forever Side 2 Saga-Behaviour Side 1 SQ* Eric Clapton-August(2010 repress) Side 2 Everything sounded very good to excellent tonight, even the Clapton repress was acceptable. I give credit to the quality of power on a Sunday night. Saga SQ* very digital sounding but fits the music. I would consider it an Audiophile recordings others might not. YES-it was a 1980's vinyl night with August being one of my wife's favorite pop/rock albums of the decade. Empty Garden caught my wife by surprise and played it 3 times for her, what a great song and better album then critics claim. Into The Woods is clearly a top 10 alternative/pop album of the 80's Billy Squier gets the SQ crown tonight great sounding/content rock album! |
Albert King - Blues For Elvis Wonderful music, but fairly thin SQ. Poco - Legend MoFi Original Master Recording, fantastic album and the SQ is quite good. Only complaint is that it is the early MoFi issues so a bit of a "smily" EQ on the mastering. The Doobie Brothers - Livin' On The Fault Line This is a very early pressing and is in NM condition. Great SQ and is the best sounding of the 3 today. Fantastic album from The Doobies. |

@mammothguy54: Blues for Elvis is the Fantasy Records-era reissue of the Stax Records album that was originally entitled King, Does The King's Things. Vinyl Me Please did a far superior reissue (with original title and cover) not too long ago. Check with them for current availability. And Analogue productions has their reissue of King's album Born Under A Bad Sign currently in stock. Another good one! |
80s boston bands this weekend: the neats--crash ant crush--pounding sorta-folkrock with a great deep-voiced lead singer the neighborhoods--the high hard one--replacements-like, but tight, with concise hooky songs robin lane & the chartbusters--s/t--femme-fronted guitar rock somewhere between new wave and the byrds; similar to and as good as the pretenders |
@bdp24 Thanks so much for the information. I checked Vinyl Me Please and they are sold out. On Discogs the original is available. The club issues are the most expensive and the Pitman pressing and Monarch pressing are much more reasonable. Do you have any idea if either of those pressings are better, one over the other? I found a Pitman pressing in NM condition for just $20. Let me know, if you can. Thank you. |
Liz Story-Part Of Fortune Side B SQ Audiophile Scorpions-Savage Amusement Side 1 Earl Klugh And Bob James-Two Of A Kind Side 2 SQ Audiophile Journey-Departure Side 1 Alison Moyet-Raindancing Side 1 Black Sabbath-Mob Rules Side 1 Rosanne Cash-Seven Year Ache Side 2 SQ* John Pizzarelli Jr.-I'm Hip(please don't tell my father) Side A SQ Audiophile You guessed it another 1980's vinyl night. Journey might have the sales win but gets the worst SQ trophy tonight. Klugh and James win the SQ contest tonight with great "lite" Jazz. SQ* Audiophile? Need to listen again got caught up in the music, great alternative country recording. My wife thought "Mob Rules" was extreme metal? Friday will have a surprise for her! |
bkeske, i was just listening to notorious byrd bros. as well--easily their best even if "space oddysey" sounds a bit dated. i just learned that "get to you" was miscredited on the record and is actually a gene clark song. ruebent, your frontier folk nebraska is a real find--one of those hard-to-categorize bands who will forever labor in undeserved obscurity. |
@loomisjohnson - I really like Frontier Folk Nebraska. I was in the room at Southgate House the night they recorded their live album. Good stuff. Another local band that sometimes sounds similar is 500 Miles to Memphis. If you're interested, try the album - "Blessed be the Damned". I've listened to it multiple times this past week and really like it. 500 Miles to Memphis self-identifies as the genre ' Americana Punk Rock. After multiple listens, I agree. Great stuff... |
