Heaven 17 - S/T
So much fun. Like it's 1982 again! If you have any interest in 80's British new wave, synth-pop, electronic music, this one is a treat. Love the songs and the sound quality and production is really good. Love it, but my copy is pretty badly warped. Think I'll look for a replacement...

@slaw
Hey Steve, please provide a quick review of the Patricia Barber album, "Higher". Musical quality as well as sonic quality. Impex typically does a fabulous job at producing a quality product, of course, but I am interested in the musical quality as well.
Thanks much.

Hey Joel,
I too have always had nothing but praise for the Impex stuff I own. That's why I was surprised by the amount of surface noise present. It sounds like teenie micro scratches. Mind you it's no way in your face but for a $50 lp, I expect more. Also, there's some low level ground noise for the first half of side one. I can overlook it if taking it out would've negatively impacted sonics.
Performance wise, it's great! I've had an interruption in my buying her stuff since Cole Porter, I think?? She is definitely taking chance and exploring new territory. I love her so it's easy for me to recommend the music.
I'm going try another copy. All of the three lps I received yesterday from ED had issues with the vinyl. That's the breaks I guess?

Tori Amos "God"
4 track/12" EP
1994/EastWest/EU
Very dynamic!!!
Needs cleaning.
|
Another one of my ongoing experiments...
A while back I mentioned that I was using compressed air to clean lps off. Well that really didn’t work anywhere near as well as my current method.
I still use my Thunderon brush but steam every other lp. You get your brush clean at the same time you’re removing more particles than a dry brush does.
That brush was available at sleevecity for around $20 then.

Aoife O’Donovan "Age of Apathy"
2021/YepRoc
Real nice!!!
|
Another experiment birthed out of my newfound midrange presence, been trying my Stillponts LP1 after years of it’s sole purpose, sitting on top of my phono-pre. I had written earlier regarding the use of weights or clamps and using them with or without the MyMats. I’ve been using three MyMats for quite a while on my VPI and still enjoying that. Trying now with the LP1 and without, so far, more often than not, I’m liking the LP1 but it is lp dependant. So, easy enough to put it on while playing to hear differences
