For me its the first or very early LP's of: Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South" Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer" and, Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
Mary Chapin Carpenter-State Of The Heart Side 1 SQ Audiophile
Pink Floyd-A Momentary Lapse Of Reason Side 1 SQ*
Harry Connick JR.-20 Side 2 SQ Audiophile
Joe Jackson-Blaze Of Glory Side 2 SQ Audiophile
80’s vinyl night part 4 added 2 extra LP’s. Spun 36 albums in 4 different listening sessions and really enjoyed it. Blaze Of Glory Won the SQ trophy and with song writing to match. IMO a Top 25 pop/rock recording of the 1980’s SQ* Pink Floyd had a very expansive soundstage but clarity was slightly lacking? Metallica/SQ was somewhat disappointing since it’s an OP. Yes the bass is down in the mix but the narrow soundstage was more of an issue. Bangles were the weakest link in SQ and content might sound better on CD?
The Congos: "Heart of the Congos" The recording quality isn't great but Lee "Scratch" Perry did the mix and it's absolutely hypnotic. I feel high just listening to it.
arro222 can enjoy all he wants, by his lonesome self. He is certainly entitled to that. Those of us on this thread care greatly about sharing our musical pleasures with others who care just as much. Most of us on this thread get a lot of ideas not only for what to pull out and play from the depths of our album catalogues, but also to seek out purchases of music that we may not have. Doesn't it go like this..."If you can't say something nice then don't say it at all." I believe that pertains to arro222
Dude, you are welcome here when joining in on the fun and pleasures of sharing music experience, preferences, SQ on certain albums, etc. But otherwise, well, you should get what I mean.
This reissue takes you right into the recording studio.
I find that record to be extremely interesting. It’s a musical statement that to me has to be taken seriously no matter what kind of music you like. They really cared; the musicians, the engineer, the record makers. I appreciate that you like it too Joel. These things are self evident, I know. Great post. Great thread.
heading out tonight with Grey’s Anatomy to the big concert hall to see the Wailin’ Jennys. Enjoy the music friends.
I've had this album for a long time. "English Settlement" was the first CD I ever bought back in 1983-ish. Played it a lot and later bought a nice copy on vinyl. I tried to go CD only for a few years, but just couldn't do it...
@boxer12 You’re very welcome Tim. And they’re “Michiganders” to boot.
@reubent You’re very welcome. The only XTC I have is a CD compilation “The Compact XTC-singles from 1978-1985”. It has their standards like “Generals and Majors”, “Making Plans For Nigel” and “Are You Receiving Me”. I bought it in England when I was working there in the late 80s. Pleasant memories of Bristol.
