Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO

The Roches - The Roches (Warner Bros. 1979)

Peter, Paul And Mary – Album (Warner Bros. 1966)

Matthew Sweet - "Girlfriend"

Intervention Records - IR-021

Man, this is a great pressing. 2xLP, so it has all 15 tracks from the original album, plus 3 bonus tracks. OK, so here's a good use for the 2xLP format I complained about a couple of days ago. I have this record on MOV, but it only contains 12 tracks, not the original 15.

@bkeske A real irk of mine. I know many have LRS inventories but Discogs might look at penalizing them for this. They're quick enough to get heavy with buyers who delay payment.

Unfortunately, the seller on Discogs cancelled the sale. Stated he was already sold.

Yea, as the inventory is tied to his collection, you would think this should not happen. He said he searched for it, but could not find it, thinking it may have sold long ago. So @tomic601 is off the hook. 😁 I picked up another, but this time an original pressing.

Fortunate to have a very clean and superb sounding original press of this one from my Dad's collection.

Philip Johnson “Youth In Mourning” Superior Viaduct 2014 reissue of Namedrop 1982 release

@boxer12 Tim, the Superior Viaduct reissues of Spacemen 3 are great.  180gm vinyl pressed by Record Technology.  Remastering is first rate.  I think Steve (Superior Viaduct) has sold out but I’m sure if you’re looking, they can be found.

How’s the new tone arm by the way?

@reubent: Classic Records also issued Girlfriend (12 tracks on a single disc, mastered I believe by Bernie Grundman), as well as Matthew's Altered Beast, Blue Sky on Mars, and 100% Fun albums. My copies aren't for sale ;-)

I have a coupla Intervention LP's---which are great, but have no idea how Classics compare to Interventions..

@bdp24 @reubent  +1 Intervention Records. I've had that Girlfriend release on my wishlist for a while, but keep missing out. Joe Jackson - Night & Day is another good sounding release of theirs

Cat Power – Jukebox

The Beatles – Let It Be... Naked

I own the Classic Records "Girlfriend". Didn't realize the new one had extra tracks.

@slaw Cat Power - The Greatest is my fav example to play people who think vinyl can't sound better than digital. LP is great, CD a muddy mess.

Eva Cassidy – Songbird (Blix Street Records – S&P-501 Reissue, Remastered) Still one of the best demo LPs of female vocals. 45rpm Live at Blues Alley on pre-order; can't wait for that.

@sbank  and All,

The Intervention Records 2xLP of Matthew Sweet - "Girlfriend" is available on eBay right now. I don't know the original MSRP, but they are selling for $56 plus shipping right now and they have multiple copies available. I do not enjoy paying "collector pricing". However, it's a really good example of the album for someone who is a big fan. It is remastered from the original analog tapes. Also, it contains all 15 tracks from the original CD only release, plus 3 bonus tracks. I think the Intervention Records release is the only vinyl release containing all 15 of the original tracks. I could be wrong about this, but I did do some cursory research.

Wow, you guys were busy yesterday!  I had my kids and grandkids over for a late Christmas, so no vinyl yesterday.

Moving through the last of the Def Leppard this morning, their 2015 eponymous release.  You'd think they might have been out of gas at this point, but it's really quite good.  No Mutt Lange, but the songs and production are still really good.

Happy Sunday…..

Do they recognize or even care about the records you listen to?

@puffball08 My youngest son likes a lot of rock, but no, neither of them are into vinyl.  They probably think I have lost my mind but are polite enough not to say so.

Sounds so good. Interesting, horns (which I’m almost sure we’re added late in the mix) sound like they’re recorded very differently than the principal voice and instruments which are forward, sharply defined, and alive. The horns are recessed and flat relative to the rest. Not bad but different. Not that I care or anything... Just never used to consistently notice stuff like this until I started hanging out with you dudes…. They say some stereo owners can be faulted to listening to their gear more than they do their music. I think I may in fact be guilty once in awhile of listening to recordings and production more than to the music itself. Sometimes. Mostly I’m lost in the music. Like yesterday I had my own personal early heavy rock fest. What a trip on this stereo.

Ok, technical question time.

Are you using a Degritter?

How many records do you clean in a session?

Do you clean records in rapid succession (one after another) or do you wait a bit between runs?

How long do you leave the machine off between sessions?  Like overnight, couple of days, a week?

Do you pre-clean records in another gadget like a Spin Clean?

I have one but am curious about other people's experience.

Whether I hear faults in the recording process or not, I still enjoy listening to the music. It just so happens that the gear/room allows me to enjoy it all the more.

@puffball08 great ? i want one but am curious about duty cycle, etc.

I have not forgot about music visit, i have been under weather..argh

Happy New Year Daniel.

Jim

for what it’s worth, if there is interest, might be able to schedule a visit ( eventually ) at Intervention. The owner use Lyra, Basis, Vandy 7 and 7. Gig Harbor. Let me know or remind me Summer.

Yes, the Intervention pressing of Night and Day is super lovely.. i will add tge Sweet discs to want list…. you guys r a bad influence robot….bad…

@tomic601

Happy New Year to you and Trish.

No worries Jim.  You and Trish get well soon.  Lots of quality listening time and good coffee (with a brandy chaser🍷).

If I get any replies about the duty cycle of the Degritter, I'll let you know.  There is a lot to tell, but not here.

By the way, thanks for the Spencer connection.  I'm looking forward to that.

@bslon +1 X "Los Angeles"

Remarkable record, particularly the first Slash pressings.  Engineering/mixing were superb given X was still considered something of an outlier at the time.  I'm sure having Ray Manzarek producing it helped a lot.

Have you heard the recent (August 2020) X release "Alphabetland"? (don't know if this link will embed properly)  Original lineup, like they never stopped.

@puffball08 I hadn’t played that X record in a long while, Billy Idol’s Gen X reminded me to dig it out. Ray M plays on it too, also produced Wild Gift which I planned to play but ran out of gas. Cool the originals are still together, there’s been some health issues. Haven’t heard Alphabetland but after reacquainting with LA I’ll need to stream it. Thanks for mentioning!
