Paul Simon-One Trick Pony Side 2 SQ Audiophile

Judas Priest-Hell Bent For Leather Side 1

Starland Vocal Band-Rear View Mirror Side A

George Shearing And Hank Jones-The Spirit Of 176 Side 2

Boz Scaggs-Silk Degrees(CBS Half Speed Mastered) Side 2 SQ Audiophile

Michael Franks-The Art Of Tea Side 2 SQ Audiophile

Jethro Tull-M. U. The Best Of Jethro Tull Side 1

Teena Marie-It Must Be Magic Side 2

Judas Priest and Jethro Tull recordings were average at best regarding SQ. Paul Simon and Michael Franks were the SQ champs tonight. Which was better? Not sure would have to analyze the playback several times IMO both rate a 4.6/5. If your not familiar with Starland Vocal Band’s "other" songs give ’Norfolk" 5+ minutes of your time.

@sbank The Sam label stuff is fantastic! The few I have are impressive.

Ahmad Jamal’s Alhambra- Noisy 1961 Argo copy…but still a great listen.

@dayglow  Evan, is the Paul Simon album on any special reissue or is it the standard original issue, Warner Bros. Records, HS3472?

And can you see from which pressing plant.  That should be indicated in the dead wax.  For instance, maybe it shows "Sterling" and W or Winchester for the Winchester pressing plant, or "O" which is for the Jacksonville pressing plant, etc.  Please advise.  I would like to get a NM/M- copy and try to get the proper pressing based on your evaluation and which copy you have.  I really love all that Paul Simon does and I don't have that record.

Thank you very much.

deadwax poets, sleuths and miners for sonic gold…why i love this thread and the contributors…

i am … well you know….quasi robotic..

@mammothguy54

I will check tomorrow everything has been put away. It's one of the rare recordings with a top level performance(Yes that's subjective) and SQ.

I used hang with a girl who was big into them. Good times.

With perky lyrics like "Bury myself...Don't Understand", how can you go wrong!

@big_greg heavy man.  Fun.  And +1 on Sugarloaf.  Green Eyed Lady was my very 1st 45.

@bkeske I love my iMac. Perfectly functional but I’ve been left way behind on updates and some new stuff I might want is non starter. In fact, it is old enough that I have been quite literally laughed at by the millennial elves on the support line. Photo display sure looks good to me. Good luck with the transition. I dread it but I know the time for it is coming for me too.

@spiritofradio I may switch to some Christmas tunes later in the day, so best to start off with some metal!  Happy Holidays to all my friends here!

Merry Christmas Greg!  And to all.  I hope everyone here has a happy holiday with loved ones near.  We’re in a pretty good snowstorm in Bend.  Christmas music provided courtesy of Sonos…

James, It finally arrived last evening. Of course, before I left for Christmas at moms (I just arrived) I wanted to use Migration Assistance to move everything onto the new iMac last night. After two failed attempts (not sure if it’s because I’m going from Mojave to Monterey, or what), finally pulled my Time Machine drive from my old Mac Pro box, and installed it in a 2 bay enclosure I bought just for this purpose going forward. So, rebooted to recovery mode, and will try to install everything from my old computers Time Machine drive. Left for moms as it was still analyzing everything before the file transfer. Fingers crossed it’s done when I return. What a pain, years and years of business files and emails on the old machine, hopefully that works.

@boxer12 On my way down to moms, mostly listened to Lambchop on my drive. Interesting band.

Merry Christmas all! 🎄 Glad mom is back in her apartment for Christmas and not in the hospital.

Brian, very nice to hear that your mother is out of the hospital.

I wish that I still had my mom.  Covet the time that you still have with her. Memories forever.

@mammothguy54

Thanks Joel. Yes, it is nice, two weeks ago I wasn’t sure it would be the case.

yes James….people ask me what Prep school was like ? i always say “ like the movie Dead Poets Society but with girls and booze…

David Bowie - S/T. Parlophone 2015 remaster.

Just received from MD to replace my original 1972 RCA copy of Space Oddity that had seen better days.

Great album and quite different than his later records.

Cheers!

@mammothguy54

Yesterday you inquired which pressing of Paul Simon-One Trick Pony I played.

In the deadwax Side 1 HS 1 3472 JW 2 #4  Sterling Stamp with TJ below it there appears to be a (0) after STERLING.

Side 2 is the same but with less clarity. Hope this helps

@dayglow  Thank you very much for your effort.  I made a purchase of that same variant on the Discogs site.  I can buy a new copy, remastered from Sony Legacy (which does a very good job on their remasters) but for just a few dollars less (not that it matters) I got an original in NM condition.  Thanks again.

Merry Christmas Y’all!

Best wishes for a joyful day with family, friends and maybe unwrapping some vinyl!

Cheers!

Bill

One of the records I ordered recently came with an album of organ music. It looked like it was in decent shape so I cleaned it and threw it on the turntable. My curiosity has been satisfied, I can confirm that I am not a lover of church organ music.

Jo Stafford-Sweet Hour Of Prayer Side 1

Al Martino-A Merry Christmas Side 2

Tony Bennett-Snowfall Side 1

John Denver-A Rocky Mountain Christmas Side B

Frank Sinatra-The Sinatra Christmas Album Side 2

Some of my favorite Xmas albums unfortunately non were Audiophile SQ. Emmylou Harris was the SQ champ just missing Audiophile status.
