Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
That MJQ album was incredible. Really showed what the Treo’s are capable of. Sounded a lot different from what I’ve been used to.

Now, for one of my favorite classical selections…

Szell conducts Sibelius Symphony No. 2. Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. Philips 1965.

EDIT: Holy crap…..in a good way
Szell conducts Samuel Barber - Concerto For Piano And Orchestra, Op. 38 & William Schuman - A Song Of Orpheus. The Cleveland Orchestra w/John Browning, piano & Leonard Rose, cello. Columbia Masterworks 1964
80’s stuff I love ; Dylan Infidels and Oh Mercy, Boomtown, Midnight Oil, INXS, McMurtry, Dregs, RLJ Pirates, Pretenders…. ya man

Agree, Boomtown really captured the age…

I agree, vis-a-vis LA particularly.  The lyrics on that record can be truly depressing.
Hilary Hahn - Paris. Deutsche Grammophon 2LP 45rpm 2021

On a VW roll tonight….

Sir John Barbirolli conducts Vaughan Williams - A London Symphony. Hallé Orchestra. Angel/EMI, date unknown, but late 60’s per label.

The Treo’s are just blowing me away guys. The imaging and soundstage is incredible. Listening to orchestral music is stunning. The speakers are no longer in my room, or, barely so. I also reduced the gain from 64 to 60 on the Hagerman, and man, that sounded great as well. I think I tried to ‘kick up’ the 2CE’s with 64, albeit were Peter recommends the MIMC, but at 60, things are quieter, and I can kick up the volume a bit, and still sounds wonderful. Maybe better with the Treo’s.
Brian,
You have very transparent speakers & that is a good thing. I couldn’t believe the amount of adjustments I was able to make to get me closer to the music when going from Tekton OB’s to Wilsons. Same was true when going from the Wilson Cubs to the B&W 802D’s. It’s not the system ever sounded bad with any prior speaker combination... They were just kind of masking the potential. I’m sure when I get my next set of speakers (no time soon!), I’ll do the same thing all over again. I do enjoy this hobby!

Charlie / No Second Chance

+1 on Charlie @bslon, I don’t have “No Second Chances” but I’ve had “Lines” since it came out in the late 70s.   Shame we can’t post/share photos of album covers on here.  An interesting band.  Way softer music than the rest of my records to that point but there was something about them that appealed.

The Nels Cline Singers
Share The Wealth
Stravinsky conducts Stravinsky - Le Sacre Du Printemps (The Rite Of Spring). Columbia Symphony Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks 1961
Mathew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs / completely Under The Covers.

boxed set, six lp’s of 60’s 70’s & 80’s covers. Great choice of songs, though I prefer the original versions

Shared an elevator with ms. Hoffs (and the rest of the Bangles) once in my youth. I was completely gobsmacked. I remember that they all giggled. A lot.

La La Land soundtrack: well recorded…no joke. Ryan Gosling can’t sing but still a fun LP with excellent arrangements.

@spiritofradio

I too have Charlie’s Lines and also Fantasy Girls, I like No Second Chance best. The finale on side 2, Guitar Hero, stream if you can. But the whole LP is a good listen. Nice to hear there’s another fan!

Steppenwolf / The Second
I scored a bunch of records at a Goodwill that were in pretty good shape (these were wheeled out from the back and didn't make it to the racks), and I just grabbed the whole lot and am now forcing myself to go through every single one to see if I want to keep it.  Foreigner Double Vision, Steve Miller The Joker, Olivia Newton-John Totally Hot and with ELO on Xanadu, Johnny Cash's Greatest Hits Vol.1, The Best of Jim Reeves, The Best of Bread, The Best of The James Gang, Gerry Rafferty City To City ( a surprise keeper for me), The Partridge Family Album (told you I grabbed everything), a couple of Jane Olivor's albums (surprise keepers as well), Handel's Messiah (red label multi-album set), and somehow I've ended up with at least three copies of Vaughn Meader's The First Family and an equal number of the Hair Soundtrack album - won't be surprised if I find more of each.  Keeping the record cleaner busy.
The Robert Cray Band - Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.  Been a while since I listened to this, it's an excellent pressing and well produced.  I also realized I didn't have Strong Persuader in my vinyl library and ordered a copy of that.
+1 on Robert Cray Greg.
