@noromance Nice!   I was also thinking how his tone on that cut on the live record is a lot like Lifeson’s - on Hemispheres particularly.
https://youtu.be/aH5jYLRcl08

I was also wondering which came first: Hillage’s Lunar Musik Suite or Camel’s Lunar Sea on the Moonmadness album.   (Both issued 1976 I think).  Obvious similarities and not just in general concept.   Hillage’s different keyboard players and Peter Bardens of Camel (and Thijs van Leer of Focus) seem to me to trade tones, licks, fills, drones, and riffs all over the place.
@ spirit of radio
You are right about Legend, but by that time Richie Furay was gone. Maybe he was their problem🤔
I always had the sense that Richie Furay wanted to be as successful and as well known as Stills and Young from Buffalo Springfield. He was very good but never achieved the success of CSN or the even loftier achievements of Neil Young. Heck, I'd bet Loggins and Messina sold more records than Furay's Poco. Now that is a shame.
Camel’s Lunar Sea came first by date of album release.

Alice Cooper ‎– Welcome To My Nightmare (Anchor 1975)

Worth it for the Vincent Price monologue alone.
The Souther, Hillman, Furay Band. 1974 Asylum Records pressing.

Three great musicians and song writers but again not quite Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
@noromance  I have that Alice Cooper album, bought it new when it first came out, and then saw the concert of it (at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino).  It was a very good recording and always sounded quite good.  Just a few months ago I received a gift from a cousin, the MoFi release of the album.  They did a great job on that one, it sounds even better.  Vincent Price is in the room.  Spooky...

Grover Washington Jr  'Inside Moves'  Such a nice album, great saxophone.

Steely Dan  'Aja'  MoFi release.  They did a great job on this one, too.  I bought it NM/M- a couple of years ago, for $90.  Had to have it when I was unable to find my original copy.  Now I see the MoFi issue going for $300 to $400.  What has happened with the insane prices on great vinyl this past year?

CSNY  "Deja' vu"  Just got this Rhino reissue which includes 4 CDs.  The packaging is superb but the SQ is rather disappointing.  It sounds hard, rough, and very digital.  My guess is the vinyl album in this set was not made from the analogue tapes, but from a digital file.  What a shame, I was so counting on a pleasant sounding copy of this album.  I have the CSN on order for the One-Step issue coming out sometime later this year.  Maybe they will also issue CSNY in One-Step, at some point.  If so, I'll buy it and sell this one.

Off to the NBA game now (on TV, I'm not traveling to Wisconsin).
I keep a Loggins and Messina album for the great song - Same Old Wine ( and as I recall heard that for first time driving 5 late at night in N. Calif… headed South.

some good College radio in the N Calif stretch…

Same Old Wine - best played loud !!!
@mammothguy54
Yeah, Bob Ezrin did a good job in that Alice Cooper collaboration. Some innovative and introspective tracks. The album copy is the same one we played when we were teenagers so it’s seen it’s share of old stylii. The MoFi copy is on the cards, for old time’s sake! Thanks for the heads-up.
@mammofguy54
Talking Heads 'Speaking In Tongues' Finally came off of backorder, since January. Made in Germany, this is by far the best sounding of all of the Talking Heads albums. Great music, no doubt, but also the best recording, mixing, mastering/plating/pressing on high quality vinyl of the bunch. Very flat and very quiet. I believe there are still some available. If you don't already have this one in your collection I highly recommend it, for all the right reasons. Just stunning

What was the release date of that ?
by Sire ? or what label.
Can you point me to it in discogs?
Thanks
Playing my other copy of Steely Dan / greatest hits.  I think the other one will end up in the no longer needed bin...

@grey9hound and @mammothguy54 I went looking for this after seeing Joel's post.  If you go to the main release page on Discogs it shows versions listed by date.  It looks like Joel is referring to the 2013 version.  There is a new one for 2021, including a blue vinyl version which I ordered from a place called Shuga records (the blue version is hard to find).

I suggest going to the release page and reading the comments.  Some say it was noisy, "hot", and caused skips, but it sounds like the noise is a result of the paper sleeve, so clean it first and if you have a decent and properly set up rig you shouldn't have any issues with playback.  Reading between the lines, it sounds like those who have decent setups and know what they are doing really like the 2021 pressing.
I have a pp and the Simply Vinyl of "SIT". Always thought they both sounded good. Haven't listened in a while though.
You got me interested so I did a bit more reading and research on the album.  I found that the 2013 issue and the 2021 issue are both considered "imports".  Both are marketed by Rhino but the 2021 issue is blue vinyl. It is possible that the blue vinyl is a lesser quality grade and thus the complaints about noise.  I'm just conjecturing, though.  I found all this information on the Shuga Records website.  Based on the SKU number I see that my copy is indeed the 2013 issue.  Either way, I found it to be really good SQ (understanding that 80s recording style does have an emphasis on the top end) and the vinyl quality is flat and very quiet.  Nothing overly "hot" sounding and no vinyl noise at all.  Of course, I put it through the Degritter before playing.  But if an album has noise by virtue of the pressing or grade of vinyl, ultra sonic cleaning can not repair those flaws.  This 2013 issue is certainly a well done album and the latest pressing is very good quality, at least on my copy (early pressing of the stamper?).  What I find interesting is that the information on the Elusive Disc website indicates the pressing is done at RTI (which is typically excellent) but the sticker on the back of my album states "Made In Germany" and thus is an import.  Does RTI have a pressing plant in Germany?  I copied and posted the description from the Elusive Disc website, below.  The SKU number for this one is the same that is on my record jacket.  Bottom line, this one sounds great!
I hope this helps and does not create any confusion.

High Quality 180g Vinyl! Pressed at RTI!
Laquers Cut From Original Analog 2-Tracks By Chris Bellman At Bernie Grundman!
Polly Jean Harvey - Dry (Original Pressing - too pure)

Outstanding. The distortion is remarkably undistorted!
I agree about the distortion be remarkably undistorted.  I don't have the album 'Dry' but I have 'To Bring You My Love'.  The recorded distortion sounds great.  Hmmm, shall we say clean distortion?

@grey9hound  Audiogon removed my post that was to you.  I have no idea what I said that would make them remove it.  I never use foul language on this forum and I was not insulting to anyone.  They filter links and phone numbers and email addresses.  I had included the link to the album on the Acoustic Sounds website.  But that situation usually shows that it was filtered, not to completely remove the post.  You can see up above, it's the post removed on July 15.  Well, whatever...I was just advising about the SQ on the record in question and where it is available for sale.  If the moderators really want to remove posts they should examine more of the mean stuff that is stated by others, on other threads.  This thread is a very pleasant one with everyone being completely civil.

Only when you play that Spyro Gyra…
Stopped into my favorite LRS today to find about 8 boxes of recently acquired  vinyl just inside the back door:

“Mike I know you haven’t had a chance to sort through these yet, but do you mind if I take a look?”

“Sure, if you see anything that I need to get on the floor right away just pull it out and I’ll price it. Anything you want just make me an offer.”

Can’t remember the last time I left there with more than a half dozen records, but I did today.

Today...

P.J. Harvey  'To Bring You My Love'  Coincidental that the comment on distortion sounding undistorted came after I had played that album today.  It's really amazing how the overmodulation on the microphone, which is highly distorted (only intended so, and only on some of the songs) can sound so darn good.

Triumvirat  'Illusions On A Double Dimple'  Has any of you ever heard of this group?  I bought this shortly after acquiring my first audio system, in 1973.  A year later I bought their second album, titled "Spartacus".  They really play on the Emerson Lake & Palmer sound/style.  Not as good as ELP, but fun nonetheless.  It sounds very dated, and the SQ is just so so, but it brought back some cool memories of my first year in college.

Camel  "The Snow Goose'  A few others have posted recently on this band, Camel.  So, I thought to break out the one that I have, give it a clean, and spin it.  A nice listen, no doubt.

Steely Dan  'Gaucho'  Darn good album.  Can't get enough of the Dan.
To Bring You My Love is arguably her best work and, in my opinion, the most fun to listen to in terms of sonics. Agree with you, don’t know how they were able to make all that overmodulation sound so clean, almost natural. Just proves it can done.

I also bought Illusions On A Double Dimple when it came out. Got a cheap promo DJ copy. Remember it sounding really good, comparable to my ELP stuff... A Hot Stamper, maybe? It’s buried in the archives somewhere, I’ll try to find it.

Probably damaged because, like you, I was using my first system. Handed down to me by my sister. One of those General Electric suitcase systems with detachable speakers. Thought it sounded great at the time but I had to replace the cheap stylus every 2 months or so. Vinyl killer.

@middlemass  That is so funny, I had one of those suitcase systems, too.  But I was younger, about 9 years old.  My first system, at age 19, was a Marantz 2270 receiver, Philips 212 turntable with a Stanton 681EE cartridge, and a pair of Altec speakers.  My Triumvirat album, and all those purchased from 1973 and forward, have only been played on something that would not kill the vinyl.  During high school, however, my parents Magnavox console was a vinyl killer.  I have had to replace those albums from my high school years, rightfully so.
Amazing. I was going to edit my post because it looked like I was implying that your first system was as cheap as mine. That's a great system you put together at 19!
Mammothguy,
Nice starter system for sure! Mine at age 19 wasn't as good but I loved it. It was all "Scott". 40 watt integrated amp / Tuner / Turntable / 3 way speakers. I was using an Ortofon 30 concorde cartridge.

For those interested, I just today received a message from MoFi on the release of Jeff Beck, "Truth" on a 45rpm 2 disc set, limited edition to 4,000 copies, made from the original analogue tapes.  My original copy is in very respectable condition but sonically it isn't what this will be.  I go to order it and it states "sold out".  So, I contact Music Direct (who also owns MoFi) and the nice person tells me that the album has not yet shipped but they are taking orders.  He said they have received a lot of order but does not know if their allocation (when they do receive it) is yet considered as sold out.  He also explained that just the same as the other vinyl sellers of MoFi are allocated, so is Music Direct.  At this point I don't see other resellers listing it as a preorder.  Anyway, Truth is an absolute classic of the Classic Rock album era, as you all likely know.  Should you wish to get in line for this one I strongly urge that you place your order quickly.  Remember, only 4,000 copies will be made.
I hope this helps those of you who are interested in this release.
Yes Jim, Vinyl Archeologists we are...😂

Note: An eBay seller must have grabbed the picture image from the MoFi site and has it posted for sale at $499.  Literally, 10 times the selling price of retail.  The guy at Music Direct told me that zero copies have yet to ship.  It's a crying shame that people ruin the market with such greed.
