Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
James - yes! Fairly good stuff in liquid for available in the early going - I left with the impression that nurse asked me “
to make dinner “...
yes the war department is fluent in many an emergency response ...

TT soon
Well, as much as I love Joni, I just wasn't in that mood tonight. However, will be through another clean.

The Notting Hillbillies "Missing...Presumed Having a Good Time"
R.E.M.  'Murmur'  I'm glad this group was mentioned a couple of days ago.  I forgot I had this album.  Good vinyl, very good SQ, and quite a good album of music, too.

Phoebe Snow  'Second Childhood'  What a great album. Really good SQ.

Paul Simon  'There Goes Rhymin' Simon'  I have had this since it first was released.  Perfect condition and it sounds great.  Love Paul Simon.

Yeah Jim, Percocet works very well.  I have had multiple injuries/surgeries and know that stuff all too well.  Drink a lot of prune juice, if you know what I mean...
Allmans-Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil...
My copy is a first pressing in near mint condition. It gets a LOT of playtime here.
Crosby/McGuinn/Hillman/Clark/Clarke (Byrds) - Preflyte. Together Records, promo 1969. Compilation album of demos recorded in 1964, pre-Byrds.
Now for something completely different...

Yes - Close to Edge. Atlantic reissue, release unknown, but think 1975.

Its very strange. This album I picked up just out of curiosity ’way back in the day’. Used to listen to it very rarely, and basically it gets shelved in the sections of albums I basically ignore. The last time I ‘tried’ to play it not all that long ago, the SQ, IMO, was terrible, and took it off the TT before getting too far. And had to ask myself, ‘why is this album still popular and well regarded’? Tonight, it doesn’t sound too bad, at all. The SQ is much better. Could the Hagerman Trumpet actually allow this album to sound listenable to me?......mmmmmmm
@bkeske
Brian, I have that album and my copy is also rather poor SQ.  For me, it sounded better on a lesser system in years past.  My system today is such a high resolution that I hear the poor SQ that much more so.  Either way, it's a wonderful album of music and I hope that you can enjoy it better than you have in the past.  Now that Fragile has been reissued as a UD-1S and The Yes Album is forthcoming in a 45 RPM high quality reissue from Friday Music (I have it on pre-order, scheduled to ship in early April) I am hoping that Close To The Edge will also follow in a high quality reissue.
We shall see.  Enjoy what you have, and probably the Hagerman Trumpet does play a role in that.😊
@mammothguy54

Very interesting about that Yes album.

I’ll tell ya one thing, my The Band album never sounded so good. Damn. Nice.
Liz Story's debut LP Solid Colors from 1983. To quote the liner notes:
 This recording was made direct to two-track using a Studer A80 VU MKIII half-inch recorder at 30 inches per second through a Harrison board. No noise reduction, limiting or compression was used. KEF speakers were used for audio monitoring and referencing on this recording.
Not to mention the music is beautiful. Never fails to put a big smile on my face.
Thanks @gsal for your recommendation. I checked it out and ordered it. Beautiful!
Thanks for mentioning the Yes Album Joel.  Another $60 gone from my retirement.

@gsal/welcome
+1 Liz Story-Solid Colors. Windham Hill has many overlooked gems in there catalog but Solid Colors might be the best!
Just ordered a used Origin Live DC motor/controller/package to hopefully upgrade my Townshend Rock 7.

Another project.
Smart move. First mod I ever did was to the motor of my Basis, and that led to the Teres Audio Motor Pod which was a significant upgrade. Then a whole series of upgrades to the motor power supply, motor, housing, controller. Its nice having a modular sort of turntable design that allows these kinds of projects. I'm sure Max put a very good motor in the Rock but experience has taught me they can all be improved upon. I bet you will be impressed with significant improvements in the power and drive of your music, with better bass, greater detail, and a more powerful yet more relaxed less fatiguing sound.

That is a pretty cool table. You should write it up and let us all know how it goes.

Okay, okay last night it was:

The Final Cut
Puttin' It Down
The Hunter
I have “Solid Colors” and quite a few 80s era Windham Hill records, George Winston, William Ackerman, Alex de Grassi, Mark Isham, et. al.   I think they sometimes get a bad rap for their new-ageiness; but I feel the same way, there are some personal treasures in that catalogue.
@millercarbon,

I have an ongoing thread since I bought the Rock 7. Been so long since I posted to it, can’t remember the title.

Anyway, I’d been disappointed with the Merlin DC power supply. I believe it’s another version that converts AC to DC then back to AC. The motor is an AC unit. Anyway it always ran fast.

If I can get this package set up correctly, I’ll have more control over pitch/speed than just moving the motor.
Delaney & Bonnie "On Tour...." lp from Speakers Corner

I've wanted this lp for decades. Glad I waited to get this copy. Hope it fulfills.
BTW, the Rock 7 has been on the sidelines for far too long,...two years? I had the Funk Firm FXR arm rewired with Audio Note silver in a continuous run.

Been waiting for something like this OL motor package to show up.
Just finished working for the day, that wasn’t really expected. But, now I’ve told myself I’m done for the day, and a big plus, got a few ‘new’ LP’s in the mail today.

first up:

Sir Simon Rattle conducts Britten - Canadian Carnival, Op. 19, Young Apollo, Op. 16, Four French Songs (Quatre Chansons Françaises), & Scottish Ballad, Op. 26. City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Angel 1982

All these albums are in incredible condition. Score.

Tchaikovsky
Swan Lake, Op. 20
Sleeping Beauty, Op. 68
Herbert von Karajan
Berliner Philharmoniker

James, I like that album a lot. My sister used to dance ballet in our youth, and brings back memories of their/her performances every time I listen to it.
Brian,

I know it’s early on, ......

I just haven’t heard the normal "hell yeah" on each and every record so far .

I felt you were too early on in trying tube dampers. Let the Trumpet be itself for 100 hours.

@slaw

Brian,

lol, well, I’m trying not to inundate the forum of my pleasure with the Trumpet on every post, but believe me, I do say ‘hell yeah’ to myself often. If not just sit here and smile. A lot.

As far as the dampers, I’m just experimenting; On/off, high/low. pre/drivers, etc. There is time, I’m sure I’ll figure out what sounds best over time.
Brian,

I, for one, love to hear the process from others.

Are you using Herbies tube dampers? I find their simple, yet highly effective, stiff "ring" to be a superb way of mounting/controlling the damping. All the while, allowing for different damping methods to be used.
@slaw

Nope, not Herbies, but have seen them. Jim sent a full set of inexpensive ’ring’ dampers with the Trumpet. Small, but very nice touch to include I think. I noticed on some earlier development photos of the Trumpet, he was actually using them.
