Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
Bela Bartok - The String Quartets (1-6). Tokyo String Quartet. 3 LP box set. Deutsche Grammophon 1981 German pressing
The Blues Project lp was great. Not audiophile quality but highly enjoyable and really a perfect lp to play on this New Years Eve.
@slaw  and @zm

Thanks for the Happy Birthday wishes!

Let's see if I get to my other Birthday LP tonight - Titus Andronicus - "The Monitor". I've been streaming it a bit over the last couple of months. I liked it quite a bit at first, but the singer's vocals have started to grate on me. Let's see if the vinyl version makes it more enjoyable.
Happy New Year to all !!!!

I am streaming it tonight, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom - I can highly recommend the movie :-)) super well done IMO

as an aside received (4) VPI magic bricks today, auction score... will be mucking about with them for grins..... i last owned these in 1986 on all my many CJ power transformers.....
@tomic601  - Happy New Year!

Jim, I have had a single Magic Brick in use in my system since sometime around 1986. Not sure if it does anything at all, but it's always been a great conversation piece. BTW, I used the brick as a template and cut out a thin piece of felt and glued it onto the bottom of the brick. Prevents any potential scratching of the finish on the top of my amp.
Ha!,, Tom and is born anew the fellowship of the brick..... yes i remember clients asking for felt....maybe Steve can send me some MyMat scraps ?...

Tommorow i will plant one on top of the fairly substantial Brinkmann TT power supply...... all part of the fun and the music....
Eilen is great...so many very good lps!

MyMat scraps coming your way.

thanks Buddy !,,,, Your MyMat is so good ;-) scraps greatly appreciated Steve
@slaw

Hey Steve, I don't currently use a mat. But if/when I get an upgraded TT, I'll hit you up for a MyMat.
Upon striking 12:00, New Year, I decided upon....

Karajan conducting Beethoven’s 9th. Berlin Philharmonic, from the 9 Symphonies box set, Deutsche Grammophon 1975

Happy New Year All
Khruangbin "Late Night Tales"

Their late 2020 release, I deemed fitting for my first new year's play.
Steve, Is the MyMat thick enough that it will affect my VTA? Don't want to d**k with it on this TT. Next TT/arm will have easily adjustable VTA.
Steve, I did read the review when it was first posted, but I've slept since then, so......... I'll give it another read tomorrow.
Ha ha!

Does your Pro Ject have a set screw to adjust VTA?.

If so, make your own gauge to realize vertical movement. Not hard to do.
I just finished up Titus Andronicus - "The Monitor". It is definitely not an audiophile record as far as sound quality. The lead singer appears to be completely tone deaf. It's long (double LP). And its a concept album. But I loved it!

If you like punk, Irish sounding guitar riffs, US Civil War History, or concept albums in general. Check it out, via streaming first, before you invest in the LP. The LP does sound a bit better than the Spotify Stream (as it should).

Titus Andronicus Forever! (name of track 2, side 1)
Khruangbin wasn’t floating my boat....

Bad Company "S/T" Abbey Road pressing
@reubent

Not sure what Pro-Ject you have, but my old Pro-Ject Debut Carbon had no VTA adjustment, and I would actually use various mats to change it, or when I went to the acrylic platter, none. As I said, and Steve pointed out, his MyMat is very thin, and should have little to no effect as mentioned.

Here’s the thing, the difference between a 140 and 180 gram LP is probably more a difference than the MyMat, and I know I don’t change the VTA when playing one or the other. In other words, the difference is too small for the hassle to make the adjustment for the weight of the vinyl I play at any particular time.

Steve’s mat is great, and something you should try. Good thing is, it can go on a new table/platter should you decide to move on from the Pro-Ject. Nothing lost, only gained.
@bkeske  - Thanks for your comments about the Pro-Ject and the MyMat based on your experience. Happy New Year to you and yours.....

Happy NY one and all... 👋 to the sh_t show that was 2020. So for today we spun Stevie Wonder "Talking Book" (very nice) Bowie "The Man Who Sold the World" Patty Griffith "self titled" and finished up with Leon Bridges "Good Thing" - all over the map today but the Luxman table is back and playing wonderfully. Gave it a full workout!
